The twentieth century was blessed with several excellent women interpreters of the songs of Gustav Mahler, but for me three stand out well above all others: Dame Janet Baker (mezzo-soprano), Kathleen Ferrier (contralto), and Kirsten Flagstad (soprano). All excelled in their interpretations, and were someone to ask me to select "the best" or "a favo(u)rite", that would indeed be a hard question to answer. Many thanks for this upload! When you say anymore, you also mean before her. Baker was a unique phenomenon. Each generation has its genius level singers, Callas, Schwarzkopf, Baker, Fleming each totally unalike.
Before I joined Orchestrating Diversity I wasn't serious about music and I would make fun, now I love classical. Check out Orchestrating Diversity on Facebook we have our own webpage.
Is this what Heaven will sound like? Utterly sublime, perfect combination of music, orchestration and voice
The Ruckert Lieder are Mahler’s best and some of the greatest songs ever written. Magical in every way.
This is by far my favorite rendition of these songs.
thank you for posting! Janet Baker's voice makes this rendition sublime beyond any other.
Simply divine
stupendous, on all fronts!
Gustav Mahler's music is for a certain circle of listeners! ❤️🎼
now this is music to my ears

Yes they are the best Mahler singers. 👍
I’d add Jessye Norman to this list.
@@vxhorusxv Agreed! Her omission was an error on my part.
Dagmar Peckova, mezzo-soprano.
Czech Republic.
Pour mon anniversaire
Why does no one sing like this any more?
