- Game Informer's Ben Reeves asks Quantum Break's creative director Sam Lake as many questions as he can about Max Payne, Alan Wake, and the time-travelling action-game Quantum Break.

"Will we ever get to play Alan Wake 2?
"Yes"
He kept his promise.
was worth the wait!
He also predicted S3 of Twin Peaks
I just love how he said “Yes” in that tone, indicating that he’s about to flip out if he ever hears Alan Wake 2 again.
"whats your favorite Xbox One game"
"LEGO Marvel Superheroes"
he was so real for that
This is how his Half-Life 2 answer hit me. Couldn't love the man more.

every fuckin video with sam lake has this comment.
"Could you have written a better Max Payne movie?"
*cringes*
"Yeeesss."
No kidding. As its original creator, that atrocity must have been payneful to watch.
"Paynefull to watch" **Ba dum tss**
I heard the ceo of 3d realms found it hard to watch it as max payne was his/hers favourte game
Ahhhhh haaaahhhh I see what you did there
@@NumaanTahir It was Scott Miller.
@@TheDukenator thanks
"Are you aging backwards"
"No"
Everyday I feel more and more that that was a lie.
Yeah, that was really a lie lol
Sam Lake always seems like a pretty cool guy.
'Course he is. He's an aries after all.
Yeah, just don't be a woman, you'd end up dead
@@Fidozo15 why?
@@zahinelahi2655 Max Payne 1: his wife dies

Bless your heart Sam Lake. You haven't been giving me enough opportunities to give you my money.
+Shamino1 What a lovely thing to say! (that's what I bet Sam would say)
That's a fact. Just finished Control yesterday, now what am I gonna do?
You're a real angel, Max.

"What year would you like to go back to?"
"This year...?"
"Can you take me there now?"
"Here we are."
Classic Sam
Favorite part by far, love his sense of humor
Indeed, the first twilight zone episode...
"What happen in the end of Alan Wake?"
-"The end"
Truly and philosophical answer
Are you aging backwards? -No. And yet he still looks exactly like 20 years ago.
That means that he doesn't age at all
Finland isn't Scandinavian. It's Nordic. Scandinavia is Norway, Sweden and Denmark
@@Drakensson wut
Yeah I swear I would have said that he was in his early thirties if not late twenties, but when this video was released he must have been 45 apparently ( according to his age right now on Google )
Still true
0:07 dunno why you're all surprised he literally confirmed it over six years ago
:))) so nice
Coming back from having played Control and I gotta say, no matter what Sam and Remedy do - it's always special.
I may like some games less than others, but each and every one of them is fresh, unique and full of passion.
These guys can do no wrong.
iliaPayne Quantum Break was awful
@@coreycasciano3255 Not in a million years dude!
quantum break is awesome
Quantum Break was cool, a little of a mixbag but still it had pretty good concept in hand
@@coreycasciano3255 any reasons? I'm just curious coz I do find this one incredibly awesome
It's not Sam Lake. It's Sam Ocean.

Sam's answers are either savage, cool, or funny. 10/10 RUclips material.
Sam is so dead pan funny, I love videos like this, not many big name game directors would be into this.
Nice to see Sam setting the example of being one of the coolest game directors out there.
1:39 Thanks to the editor for holding on Sam's smile here 😊
"Which word wasn't in the Quantum Break script?"
"rosebud"
Clever.
I don't get it?
Why is pewdiepie popular?
Sam: youtoob
Missed opportunity:
"What's your favourite lake?"
"Sam"
😂
0:08 hits different now...
I tried to watch this casually while I'm eating but I just can't because I don't want to miss any question or answer and I'm constantly smiling. This is hilarious :D
"Could you have written a better Max Payne movie?" is gold :D
He wasn't lying, Alan Wake 2
So funny had to see ig
Anything Remedy touches is absolute gold.
this is so freaking funny xD
Sam is the Nolan of video games! I really admire the mind of this guy!
Goddamnit , you hit the nail on its head! Nolan is my favourite director and Sam Lake is living legend.
what a disrespect to sam lake. Nolan is a fckn sellout and always makes commercial films which try to be cleverer than they are by making stupid people feel intelligent. If anything, Sam Lake is closer to David Lynch in terms of how less he would explain things. Alan Wake (as well as Address Unknown in Max Payne) owes a lot to Twin Peaks
As a matter of fact... Why didn't Sam Lake write the Max Payne movie ?
I'm sure he can write a better movie than most of the hacks that tried writting movies out of game plots.
+Pyke For the same reason that David Bateson didn't play Agent 47 in the Hitman movies. Hollywood doesn't like taking risks on people who are basically unknown in the realm of cinema.
Hollywood thinks they can take things and change them to what they think will sell. They’re so out of touch, it’s ridiculous.
Hollywood probably didnt want to pay him.
@@Mikeoneus Instead, it absolutely ruins every single movie based on a videogame.
Something something writers guild union shenanigans something something
holy shit they just confirmed alan wake 2
Still waiting for it.
aaand they got the publishing rights back.
@@avocadopictures9706 the wait is real now.
Sam Lake ALWAYS wanted to continue the story. Problem was that Alan Wake was Microsoft's IP but now Remendy has bought it back. I guess they're finishing the two DLCs for Control now and then work on AW2. At least I hope so :)
@@mischa1981 Actually, it was not their IP, the just had exclusive publishing rights.
1:24 As a Finn, I can confirm that we shout every word exactly like that *KVANTTIRIKKO*
"What's stopping Jack from breaking into my house and watching me shower"
"...nothing"
0:14 the most heartbreaking “no” I’ve ever heard 😭😭😭😭
Oh shit. I didn't know Max Payne's look in Max Payne 1 was based on Remedy's creative director. Lol.
+War624 XD yeah i cant not think max payne when i see him
+War624 Not just based on him, it IS him.
It is sam
It's Sami
ALL the "actors" in MP1 were the game devs / their friends or relatives.
Only the VAs were native English speaking pros.
0:19 maybe he's talking about "A Stop At Willoughby" which is one of my favorites as well
Sam Lake is a Legend. I'm sure Quantum Break will redefine Third Person Shooters
Santiago Vásquez Gómez uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sadly, no
lol hahahahah no
Yeah no
Sadly no. but I don't understand what was the reason Quantum Break doesn't become a success?
Quantum Break was pure fucking garbage, I'm a fan of Alan Wake so it's sad to see how much I hate this game
I could watch these forever.
People give Shawn Ashmore a lot of shade, and i feel like it's because he's been in a lot of very bad stuff, and then a few movies that could've been really awesome but ended up kinda tanking, or their properties tanked in later films. I'd love to see the guy get more roles, i think he was the best actor in a lot of shitty movies where he wasn't the star. He was good in the Boys recently! And i love his role in Alan Wake, i need to get a hold of QB at some point.
Once again, Ben Reeves shows he is the perfect person at GI to ask this questions.
Love this type of videos.
What happened at the end of Alan Wake?
-The End.
I laughed so much now.
- What state is the city of Riverport in?
- In a bad state.
- Is it Ohio?
Is Ohio really so bad?
- What happened in the end of Alan Wake?
- The End.
Genius answer.)))
- Are you [censored] with time?
- Yes.
- What year would you like to go back to?
- This year.
- Can you take me there now?
- Here we are.
L-Logic.
- Do you want to switch seats?
- Yes.
*Switching seats*
Omigod, I laughed whole... 30 seconds!
This guy is a true genius.
"what's your favorite Lake? is it your father?" "no...." 0_0'
He played life is strange! My life is complete
I was in a trance playing Alan Wake. I finished it in two days with Hardly any sleep. Remedy are so fucking good at what they do. Alan Wake 2 confirmed and Quantum Break coming to PC. Fuck I am so moist.
the question is and I quote " Do you hope quantum break will be re-released for pc one day" and he responded " yes".
but he knows it won't because Microsoft own quantum break and Phill Spencer will be very stupid if he put this game on pc. Sony would never let that happen with such a franchise like Quantum break.
but if it does it will good for those ones who doesn't has a xbox one
+Elias Carvalho No, Microsoft does not own Quantum Break. And the game will be released on PC after some time, just like Alan Wake was.
Elias Carvalho It's Being released by Microsoft as you know. Microsoft also make a huge profit from games being released on windows, because they own windows even if it's on a Mac O/S . It would be stupid not to release it on windows. And you just seen it for yourself that it was confirmed for PC by Sam Lake himself..
+defiantgiant01 Microsoft own quantum break, Scalebound and recore those ip are xbox one only
3:22 WATCH AND LISTEN
"of all the games that you've made , which one are you most prouf of?" I was expecting MAX PAYNE 1!
He a clown for that
You don't disrespect payne in the butt like that
According to an interview he had for IGN, apparently was still in the middle of uni taking up writing when he wrote the first game; even submitting the screenplay for a class.
After Max Payne 1, that's where I personally really felt his writing flourish from there. Its amazing to see it improve like that in Alan Wake, significantly from how personal the premise, story and messages of the series are.
*Not to diminish Max Payne in any way, I really adore the games!
Rewatching for the third time. Still my favourite episode of rapid-fire questions XD
One of the most passionate and earnest game devs ever
like how he's most proud of Alan wake really want a sequel :)
Oh hey its Max Payne! :D
+ViVaLaRan Whack Him!
leon floyd Pain in the butt! PAIN TO THE MAX!
@@ViVaLaRan you're killin' me. Tell me, did you come up with that one yourself or did you get some vino downstairs to do it for you? Dont answer that a rhetorical question. I got somethin for the boss, Lupino around?
Sam's favorite game is Half Life 2? I'm starting to like this guy more and more than ever.
Great Q&A. This and Sean Murray's Q&A are freakin great. Make more of these.
One of the best interviews ever! 😄
i really really love this format of a interview
Jack, Allan, Max and now Jessie. Damn I wish these were in the same universe and have a crossover.
Have you played the Control DLC?
well buddy do i have news for you
I LOVE these, keep em coming!!!
This guy is responsible for two of my favorite things ever, max payne and alan wake.
He didn't lie
Can we appreciate the amount of questions that the interviewer has learnt
D Hrishik I think he hasn’t. I bet he had to look at the list of questions every now and then.
You give him too much credit.
I love these, keep em coming!
Sam Lake its one of the greatest guy i know in Video Game industry, i always can feel the amount of love and passion in all of Remedy games...
He wasn’t joking about alan wake 2
I like these- very uncorporate like
Ben really knows his Remedy lore, bravo!
3:37-3:39
the most important question of all
This is everything you could want in an interview.
0:19 probably he's talking about the very first episode called "Where Is Everybody?"
One of the best writers for video games. Loved max Payne 2 as a kid
2:55 this line is EVEN better after playing alan wake 2
WOAH WAIT Alan Wake 2 is coming?!?!
+leonthesleepy YES
No.
He meant like later down the line. It's not happening right now, but it will continue.
excellent news 8 years later
These are the best. Ben totally nails it!
How'd that guy get Max Payne to sit for so many questions
This is the most efficient interview ive ever seen
Bravo! That was highly amusing!
Another 100 please.
this is the funniest interview ever LMAO
this is still the best interview ever
I had to pause several times just to keep up with the laughing
Will we ever get to play Alan wake 2 ?
Sam: yes
Me: 😱😱😱😃😃😃
:)))
Dinosaurs... Im intrigued.
Watching this in 2020 after I've beaten the game three times is quite a trip, lol.
lmao sam would write a way better max payne movie
Best interview. MOre plz
It's coming, finally, Quantum Break is going to be a new type of genre in the game world
Love these questions
"can you show me how to change the batteries in a flashlight without turning it off?"
sam lake, you the man
The most adorable publicly know person ever.
"yes... we will." CMON. LMAO. now one of my favorite videos on yt
This is actually pretty humorous. Suddenly a goat!
This guy really is a legend, it’s pretty sad they changed Max in 2 it was all down hill after that. R.I.P Max Payne, long live Sam Lake. 🐐
Idc About The Model Change This Guy is Still Max Payne and Always Will Be
Wait we still have James as Max
I enjoyed these questions, pretty funny.
this was awesome.
Still waiting for Alan Wake 2 :(
omg this was so funny!! I love Sam Lake :D
Sam Lake has the best Finnish accent ever.
Hän on suomalainen. Sami Järvi on hänen oikea nimensä. Sami on suomalainen versio nimestä Sam, ja järvi on lake englanniksi. Translate that :D
[3:24] Sam, YOU DID IT!
"Can you make Control into a TV drama, something like a modern (early) X-files, with Courtney Hope and Matthew Porretta, and start filming sometime this year?"
And with James Mccaffrey dude :d
POV I still live at home and I’m annoying my mom with random questions
It's so sad that his most proudable content was didn't even sell well
He's said in other interviews that the question "what's your favorite game of all time" or similar questions are his least favorite questions in interviews. So I think he said "lets just say" for a reason.
