    What an incredible recreation of history, tremendous detailing from the 3D printing, down to the birds, especially the poppies which are very appropriate, and remarkable painting of the ambulance. The painting of the figures so real. I always enjoy your videos, but this is definitely one my favorites as I'm sure all you subscribers might agree Thanks for sharing, Cheers from the colonies.

    You mentioned Night Shift’s skill at painting figures. If you go back in his catalog about a year and a half or so, when he finally broke down and decided to try doing figures, you’ll find him being far less confident in his ability and far more critical of his results than you.
    But like you he didn’t quit despite nearly none of his armor painting skills being applicable to figures. Hence considering your current casual facility at painting… let’s say inorganic subjects, I see no reason you won’t be progressively happier with your results as time passes.
    I don’t know if it matters to you, but the best figure I ever painted was the pilot figure for the early 1980s X-Wing. All I had to work with was Testor’s enamels, meaning I had to mix up shades as I went along, coincidentally using a wet on wet technique for the face and hands. By today’s modeling standards it was the equivalent of a third grader’s crayon drawing but if I had not quit modeling at that time I have no doubt that the incredible range of products available today would drastically improve my results too.
    I like the diorama for its “island of quiet” feeling. No one is at combat alert, shells aren’t falling and the enemy is clearly well out of sight. Only thing that trips me up is, how are they going to get those stretchers on the bus? I suppose making the diorama big enough for both the bus and ambulance would have been a bit much though.

    • @ModelNerd
      @ModelNerd  Год назад

      Thanks Mark. Yes, you're completely right. I've followed Night Shift since almost the beginning and it is all about learning.
      Re the stretchers - I think the issue is partly scale - the bus interior is slightly small and the stretchers are definitely a bit over scale. But I also left the one stretcher on the ground to suggest maybe casualties were being collected here ready for another vehicle :)

    Been waiting on this one!! I love anything WW1!!👍🏻👍🏻
    When painting the faces, the ones that didnt blend, just go back over with a glaze of the base coat, this will tone it down and blend the colour variation underneath 👍🏻👍🏻 also try giving the figures a light dry brush at the end and a coat of vms matt will blend it all together and completely change the look.
    Great job tho, im currently working on a british ww1 mark.1 tank, im going to recreate the display from bovington of that very tank.
