This entire project is one of the biggest “hidden” gems of the AC bunch. I really am inspired by every track. Good House is a meditation too. Ooooof I just can’t get enough of this. ❤❤❤❤
It was hard for me to wrap my mind around this track, and then I was 3 minutes into it hardcore hypnotized, in a trance. Wasn't thinking about anything in particular, but I felt good. Fuckin' Deak is casting spells on me man
+Dom's Sketch Cast Deak's my favorite member of AnCo. After hearing Good House as many times as I have, I feel more than prepared for his solo ventures.
+Dom's Sketch Cast I had a moment like that listening to Good House in complete dark in a porch. could see nothing around me but one lighten window across the distance. Along with that, the song took me away from reality for a few minutes, and everything was perfect!

@@otamatoad314 Brian Weitz (aka Geologist) reportedly spent a total of 80 hours recording the 'where you at?' refrain on the penultimate track of Animal Collective's tenth studio album; Painting With. It took approximately 85 attempts using a wide range of vocodor systems. At the time of Golden Gal's release, producing and mixing this sample was said to have cost upwards of $3.5 million USD.
I don't get how Pitchfork only gave this a 7.6. Pitchfork have a hard-on for anything that is Animal Collective related, giving them some insanely high scores. Well at least they gave this a higher score than "Centipede Hz" and "Painting With".
This album is only 6 songs long. I turn it on at night and haven't yet been able to stay awake for the whole thing. No it's not boring. It's hypnotizing.
I accidentally had 2 tabs of this open at the same time about 1 second apart. I thought he was just overusing an echo effect. Much clearer when just listening to 1 video at a time.
OrangeCatAnimations I think that you can interpret the line however you wish or however makes sense to you. To me it asks if we are stuck in familiar patterns or ruts in our attempts to make our ways in life. I'm not sure if that helps, but it's just one of many interpretations.
+Michael Crumpley I think you're selling ODDSAC, Transverse Temporal Gyrus, and the Keep cassette a little short. But I agree that Sleep Cycle is definitely up there with all those.
I discovered this song at the beginning of the year on a train back from a rehearsal session filling in for my friends' band. I was immediately impressed and drawn into the soundscape of Sleep Cycle BUT this song in particular. After taking somewhat of a hiatus from listening to this (not really) and revisiting it under a more conscious curation for influences for a new song, I'd like to praise Deakin for a little while. While Animal Collective is arguably the most emblematic indie band for exploring new boundaries and pushing for new possibilities, there is something about this record and Deakin's songwriting ability with this song in particular. As a jazz listener I am tainted with a bias towards digesting longer tracks with little to no fuss, but Just Am is such a wonderland of forward-thinking pop. It showcases no fear in exploring dense and beautifully outlandish soundscapes, and the gradual development of each vocal phrase spaced out over what is otherwise a very long indie pop song really holds the proverbial lantern as a guiding light. The vocal phrasing is consistent but with slight rhythmic differences that help condense 8 minutes into something that I can sink into and enjoy, without second guessing myself or having the experience tainted by an abstraction. Thank you, even now, for this, Josh. I can't wait to hear the next record. Just Am is the most inspiring song I'm listening to right now
It finally has a name!!! I've known this song only as [When I Get Home] for years now haha Deak, thanks so much dude. We've been waiting many moons for your brainchild and it doesn't disappoint
Absolutely Wowed!!!! I'm very impressed (despite being released super late)!!! Please keep on this route you're on, it's amazing!!!!! Definitely best of the AC solo and collective releases in years!!!! Two thumbs up!!!!
+lohengren yes it is, but it's also perfect the way it is. also deakin is apparently working on more music, so maybe we'll get another release this year
+Nick Whittemore I was thinking the same thing. He would have let Sonic Boom mix the whole album, if Pete had even been willing to. Killer album regardless though!
Sound8Vision I have no idea, but load the tracks up in Audacity or any other digital audio software, and take a look at the waveforms. The album is a loudness war victim to the max. The albums where Sonic Boom played a role weren't much better. Really wish there was a vinyl release of this, as usually they have different, better mixes. It's sad that "Painting With" got the special physical release, and not "Sleep Cycle".
wow that's good. listening to this, it seems that deakin gave animal collective the cerebral cohesion they may lack otherwise. seems that it's just freak outs and textures without him.
I love that this took 7 years. Don't try to force creativity…let it come, when it comes.
Those words don't make sense to me

...PBVSGR was last year
I can't believe it's been 6 years. Time flies. I feel like this album just came out. Amazing album.
"You build a house,You build what you know,I wonder if that's home."
I think I'm going to cry.Wonderful work deakin.
One of Anco's best solo albums since Person Pitch in my opinion
This album had the most spiritual feel of any animal collective project I have heard.
Try listening to the first stuff they made... They've been veeeery spiritual (STGSTV, HCTI, Campfire Songs...)
Standing in the desert, faces stare back from the dunes
Brought here by courage or delusion, I won’t stop but I feel ripping mad
So I am crying words that don’t make sense to me or them
But I am singing, I am singing, beams the child inside then disappears again
Still I go on repeating words of loss and failure
Of every choice that I gave up to guardian anger
I hope that you can feel life
Cause even watching descent I see light
But I recall I called you hate
Repeated words get locked and phased
And these words attach
Some words like stone
You find with time you build more than sow
You build a house
You build what you know
I wonder if that’s home
Tangled up at home, unloved intentions all I see
All those collected, stacked, and fretted over treasures leave me spinning so
I’ll leave the door wide open my old friend, there’s more unfound
It’s time for letting wounds and breaking through these pretty patterned knots I twist around
Dad I can’t see, I’ve lost my voice, I need direction
Reweighed each choice so many times I’ve lost reflection
You’ve got to let go so you’ll grow
Then even when you feel blind you’ll still know
So I asked again when I get home can I build space?
And clear these ripples of disorder and erosion I feel nipping mad
And when I find my way through all discolor in my mind
Swear I’ll never leave imbalance or impatience standing guard or keeping time
Cause I hold on to things that dearly need replacing
Broken time ruling pain and failed aging
When I let go, I just am
Conjured back to myself I just am
In holding on I’ve grown too tight
My joints are cracked, my eyes gone white
Stop holding
Don’t wait too long your face is sown
Your fears won’t fail and new ones will show
Only steps you take will help you to grow
And when I hope, I hope I’m home
I’ll step inside and I’ll feel grown
If only
Don’t wait for safe just fall inside
And wisely forgetting to take
That treasured stain you’ve always relied
I wonder what you’ll show
Honestly I like this more than anything from Painting With, it just feels less crowded imo.

Fuckin geek

thank you..its not that the song makes me feel less alone, it makes me realise i was never alone to begin with.
Loving this track! Anyone notice the melodic similarities to Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer"? (Beginning each verse)
Wow, this is..this is just fantastic.
THE DEAK CURES THE BLEAK
Some parts sound like Simon and Garfunkel's The Boxer imo
I hear it too. I think it's intentional

exactly my thought
Thank you!!! I was trying to figure it out
Exactly !!! But it's really hard to make a song that doesn't sound partially like another song.

yeah
HAHAHA
that hee-haw-hee-haw looping bass riff thing is so cute
This song got me through some shit
the entire album is an effective anti-depressant
good house is my safe space
Damn Deakin at it again with the stellar jams
+x sadsappysuckr Dan Deacon back at it again
This song builds a beautiful cathedral in my brain...
Such an unexpected gift, sending love and good vibes to ya Deak. Thank you.
Awesome profile picture
great album for your profile pic XD
Holly shit I told myself that I would only listen to the first 3 minutes to check how good the song was, and I ended up listening to the whole thing.
Deak's hidden genius finally released
+i don't like those scary german fairy tales agreed. also, awesome username :)
+i don't like those scary german fairy tales We all know geologist is the real hidden talent
+Tyrone Legstrong Sr. Jr. III they all have hidden talent. that's why it call Animal Collective.
I love you Deak. I Hope you see my comment. You are a wonderful musician. I listen to you every day. You are a very good musician and person.
Might be album of the year for me. Such amazing ear candy that flows seamlessly and it's over before you realize it.

This is one of the best things I've ever heard
Deak has revealed himself to be the true AnCo
lol no
+ClassicRockLivesOn they're all good boys.. chill with that, man
+ClassicRockLivesOn how come such a strong record as MPP came out without his contribution? It's not just him.
+MimKoRn exactly,
Everyone in AnCo contributes. Some albums however are a miss. Like painting with.
+MimKoRn And Fall Be Kind, Sung Tongs, etc.
The pre-chorus melody sounds exactly like The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel and I love it
One of those songs I find myself carrying with me and playing in my head throughout the day
This is soo sick, both the visuals and the audio. That piano around 1:25 is so good.
THE ABSOLUTE MAD MAN
I really like how with each of the separate solo projects, you can hear how they contribute to the collective together.
Wow this is wonderful great job deak can't wait for that solo project
I find that I enjoy music from individual members of AC as opposed to their work as whole lately.
I’ve always thought that. I love Avey but Panda Bear and Deakin are exceptional.
Deakin your voice and melodies/harmonies are one of the greatest I have heard in AC collection... Be proud!
these lyrics are deep
You build a house/you build what you know/I wonder if that's home
KILLS ME
DAD I CAN’T SEE I’VE LOST MY VOICE I NEED DIRECTION / REWEIGHED EACH CHOICE SO MANY TIMES I’VE LOST REFLECTION
Could you please explain this line? I can't figure it out.
OrangeCatAnimations I think that you can interpret the line however you wish or however makes sense to you. To me it asks if we are stuck in familiar patterns or ruts in our attempts to make our ways in life. I'm not sure if that helps, but it's just one of many interpretations.

MY SINGING VOICE IS GONE
Way to go, Deakin!
Some of my favorite lyrics in this song. Great song.
Better than Painting With imo

+Alex “AxeWorld” Rozinov hmmm... only implying it isn''t as good as Fall Be Kind or Sleep Cycle, which I think is fair even if you disagree with that.

This is like if Animal Collective smoothed off the edges and harmonized more. And actually a good voice with better vocal production. Well done.
+cemegonuts You don't think Pandabear has a good voice in anco? You're crazy!
+Ben Amos I didn't say that
+Ben Amos Or Avey for that matter. I love what Dave does with his voice. A great contrast to Noah's more conventional shine.
soo amazingly beautiful and soulfully honest
