- Thousands protested in Paris, France, on Saturday to denounce police violence and President Emmanuel Macron's security policy plans, which demonstrators say would restrict civil liberties.
Protesters waved banners that read "France, land of police rights" and "Withdrawal of the security law.” Some also threw projectiles at riot police, smashed shop windows, torched cars and burned barricades. Police fired back volleys of tear gas.
In one incident, police charged after fireworks were launched at their lines.
France has been hit by a wave of street protests after the government introduced a security bill in Parliament that set out to increase its surveillance tools and restrict rights on circulating images of police officers in the media and online.

The bill has been withdrawn (for now) and included the ability to film and publish info about the police if you do it with integrity and on a serious basis, without trying to cause harm or harassing the police. Yet the riot-loving troublemakers wanted to make a big deal about it, because they realize that their determination to terrorize, sabotage and protest harshly whenever they don't get their way, would be restricted. I hope Macron goes along with passing the bill anyway.

Property damage is an act of violence and a tool used to coerce people into giving the violent party it's way and the people subject to all this destruction haven't done anything to warrant it. Imagine just parking your vehicle and opening a business for people to come and burn it and destroy it, especially after presumably struggling or taking outright losses after the Covid lockdowns.
And fires are a gross way to protest, they articulate nothing and simply turn things to ash and spread with no regards for wherever or whomever they touch. Not everyone is a young, mobile person who can simply run away, there are elderly, and the physically and mentally handicap to whom the flames could surround or spread to.

I'm 28 yo, I don't have a fabulous school path, my mother's family has a modest social background . But I try to do my best . I'm planning to become a Real-Estate Agent since the Covid came... But when I see all these riots, I feel ashamed . One year ago, during the summer 2019 , I met a lovely Finnish girl with blonde hairs, near the Eiffel Tower, charming and smart , and this sweetness, which recalls the Paris of yesteryear, contrasts with the hell that this city has unfortunately become... Sadly.

Global and most other media outlets purposefully don't include clips like that (as well as entire police squadrons getting beat down, beating others, etc. etc.) There are multiple reasons that people are fed up with the goverment and police. The trigger for this protest was a drafted law by Macron that would make filming police illegal.
Atleast they let the firefighters in without harm. I feel bad for the owners of those cars and businesses that are damaged.
