I like that you always mention the fan noise when reviewing computers / laptops, thanks for that! I prefer fanless devices but if the noise is acceptable I am happy to make an exception :-)
Speaking of cooling on Chuwi Core Box 4th, maybe I'm used to fanless machines too, but if you look at the exploded image on Chuwi's website, the heat sink is mounted upside down, ignoring natural convection. As a result, the fan runs all the time and while not noisy is certainly annoying, making questionable the use of Core Box 4th as a media center. Placing this mini pc vertically helps a bit, but doesn't stop the fan.
Looking at possibly upgrading to this next month. I am totally blind, so not a gamer, but I do run an online radio station and do some very basic streaming on Streamyard. Right now, I’m using an old HP desktop from about 2014-2015, i3, 8gb ram, ssd. For just the software for my online radio station, it runs fine, but the second I load up Streamyard Studio, the fans spin up to the point it sounds like something is going to break, and things get very laggy. I know we are talking about i3s in both machines, but hearing your review gives me greater confidence that I will get much better performance out of this new pc. Thanks for the review.
Hi Chris. I even got a better deal on Black Friday, so I bought a Chuwi Core Box 4th. I mostly agree with your thoughts except that in my unit the Windows 11 installed by Chuwi could not be activated. I got this message in the activation window: This windows code has been used on too many machines, contact your vendor. I had to provide my own windows code to activate it. I also use 2 other Chinese fanless Mini PCs (Maxtang with AMD Ryzen Embedded V1605B and Vnopn K1 as a media center). Thank you for your reviews, keep up the good work.
I lost the power cord and I can’t find a new one Can you help me it might be for a different version but the PC that I lost it from looks identical to the one you’re showing in this video but doesn’t have a USB-C
Wow... I've been watching you for years and this is one of those enthusiastic videos you produce that are generally as rare as hen's teeth ;) Enjoyed it... might even buy one.
Glad you like it. It's a nice surprise this mini turned out to be really good for what it is. I almost said no as its' a Core i3 but 12th gen Core i3 is not bad!
That's such a solid mini PC! It's quite unfortunate building your own SFFPC is more expensive than buying one that can't be upgraded in certain department
Is this Chuwi PC good for programming specially Android app development (run Android studio and emulator). Are there any other devices like laptop or mini PC from Chuwi or any other brand at this price range you would recommend?
im thinking of buying this or the larkbox x 2023 but i need to ask, does this have any heating problems? you showed basic while playing games but i wanna know the top temps on that bc if i end up having problems playing minecraft then i dont think i will get it. but lets be honest minecraft isnt too demanding just as long as i can draw and play from time to time. edit: ok i didnt notice the maximum bracket XD if 80 is the top then that should be fine and im used to playing at 20fps XD
Nice review compliments, and interesting product for the price at which it is proposed, really runs this pc, if one does not need to play is really a great machine
I really appreciate these mini pc reviews. This Chuwi is roughly the same price as the Geekom it8 with 8th gen i5. The it8 has upgradeable ram (up to 32gb) whereas the Chuwi is stuck with 16gb. So which would be more future proof for basic office tasks and occasional photo and video editing?
I need help, I don't know what one is better to buy. I'm planning on gaming with a mini pc. (1) Chuwi Core box 4th. The one in this video. (2) Morefine m600 R9-6950H. The other one in your video. Can you do a video comparing them to each one, or respond with response. I'm planning on getting them with the max ram and hard drive. Each one will cost around $1250.00. I want spend my money wisely. Is there a better one that I don't know about? I think your response would help out other people like myself. Thanks!
У меня нет type c. 😢. В некоторых обзорах есть type c usb 4.0 , а в других нет, мне попался без type c. Так же у меня биос совсем простой, ничего почти изменить нельзя. Да и заблокирован на 15вт, интересно, можно ли на 28вт настроить?
That's great performance. Imagine if Intel XeSS would be available on GTA5 and other titles. Maybe GTA5 is already modded, like it was when after FSR released. It would be interesting to see what Intel XeSS could do on this little mean machine :)
I think some of these gpus thermal throttle early defensively. I saw on another miniPC that didn't even exceed 70c that it had the thermal throttling flag on.
Anyone know how to access to advanced BIOS settings in last version?. I received mine today from the official page but I can't reach the advanced BIOS settings. When I enter the BIOS, I have 4 tabs with ultra basics settings each one (MainInfo, Security, Boot and Exit). Pressing ESCAPE key doesn't show advanced settings. It's like my BIOS is different. I only want adjust fan settings in order to silent it a little bit in when it's idle.
you can't, the advanced bios is only in the RUclipsr editions available.... that's why u never buy any Chuwi shit. And no you don't get any support or any bios updates at all

I revisited the Geekbench 5 scores of my 8th gen i5-8250u. This Chuwi i3 is twice as fast in single core, and 2.2x in multicore. Wow. Shame about the lack of Quicksync encoder, that's a surprise. I thought previous i3s had this. Buit still an impressive package.
Yes it’s a huge step up 12th Gen it all their chipsets. That’s why I said it feels quick like a Core i5 and the i3 naming doesn’t suit this chip at all.
Anyone happen to know of any limitations (using PCIe cards through the USB4 port, on this machine or in general), if any? Besides a dock + gpu, would other (low powered) cards such as firewire PCIe card work over USB4 as well? If so, that would make this mini pc, a nice and cheap, low powered, little (DV) video capture box… or security cam server (multi rca port capture cards, for example). If possible, what type of dock/adapter would be needed?
I like that you always mention the fan noise when reviewing computers / laptops, thanks for that! I prefer fanless devices but if the noise is acceptable I am happy to make an exception :-)
No problem. I hate fan noise myself but luckily it's not so bad and always the same with this unit.

Thank you for including a Linux portion. Great video as always!

I'd have bought this, even for more money, to replace my desktop, if they had a 32GB RAM variant. Hopefully the next gen will have it

Wait wait, in the latest version that they sell, there isn't anymore a usb-c 4.0 on the back, right?
Thanks a lot for testing the video editing part. I am curious on how a cheap mini pc could edit 360 vr videos so your direction helps a lot. Thanks!
Glad to help
Good PC for personal web server
Would be fine for that yes and you can set in the bios to have it auto boot if the power cuts out.
Great video I wish you would do some emulation though is that an i3 or i5 because it's an option to buy it
I used to but got hit with copyright issues from Nintendo in some early videos...

Not bad but the Minisforum TH50 is only $50 more and has full 96 eu Iris Xe Graphics.

Can you do a video with EGPU, Razer would be great
you can get a usb4/thun
derbolt dock with 10gig ethernet and more usb ports its actully very expandable
It will comes with 13th gen gen
the 2023 version of the corebook x is using this processor, it should be a much better value than the previous ones
It is using it? Didn't know there was a new version.
Would it work with 144hz 23 inch monitor?

Can you modify VRAM size to 4 GB?
There might be a registry hack for that, google it.
install a linux distro on the thing,i did it with a minis forum UM700,IT ,it is a lot faster and efficient than microsft,i installed mint cinnamon
Easily be paired with egpu like cheap rx580/gtx1060 fof $50-60 and this could game
Weird about quick sync, intels webpage shows it supports it.
is the tdp overclockable to 40-50w?
no

They really should as it's an in between and not as bad as the old crappy dual core Core i3's I remember.
typo "tpye-C" in PROS
