- In this weeks video I cruise my Narrowboat down the Trent & Mersey Canal through Rugeley to stock up on supplies and then head towards Handsacre to go exploring a beautiful walk in the area. As there are no Canal Locks to navigate this week - Bonny my little rescue dog gets promoted to First Mate and takes her position on the boat roof for the first time.

Hi Heidi, Greeting from KL in Malaysia.
For a great cup of coffee at anytime without any electricity, you need a Moka pot or two.
Old Italian designed coffee maker that only needs a stove to make great coffee, just remember the Moka pot cup size is an espresso cup.
Our 9 cup Moka pot gives us two decent cups of coffee, our best used item in our kitchen.

I live in Arizona in the US and our summer has been HOT. It's been up over 110* F daily for the last 2 months, and it won't be cool and comfy till about the middle of October. But, then it's gorgeous weather till we hit June again so it's worth suffering through the summer for that. I miss the rain!

Sadly live in South Australia now - trying to persuade the misses to take a couple years our - buy a small boat and do a couple years total canals - I spent 25 years in the RN so it never leaves you.

Our weather has been horrible. Cold, rainy and bleak. I hope the snow stays away this winter but I have a bad feeling. Adirondack Park northern New York USA. 💀 sit on one of these for an hour a day while you’re driving the boat. I guarantee it will spread out that tight leg problem you’re experiencing.
Your heading towards the water park in this vlog.
It might be an option to take to the bike as it is quite large.
If heading towards Brum you will get close to Drayton Manor theme park. Also the other side of the water park where they do activities. The Dog and Doublet pub small and friendly.
This route will also take you close to a Big Asda at Minworth.
This is where I would turn around if not wanting to go into Birmingham “Brum”.
I’ve been all this way before, I’ve been on the Trent and done all the Birmingham canals and strourport etc but I’m thinking of heading to the Ashby this time 😄🏴☠️

Here in OHIO, USA, we had a long, lingering winter to start the year out. Then lots of rain in the spring. Summer has been hot and rainy, but I would rather have "some rain" than severe drought, which we usually have in August. I am actually looking forward to cooler days. Thought I would never say that. Love to watch you and Bonny together. Everyone needs a companion to hug and talk to. Take care. Travel safe.

Hi Heidi i am so glad and happy for you that Bonny took her first journey on top of the boat and she was well behaved and took it in her stride, you would think she was an old pro at it the way she was and didn't even react to the dogs and wildlife you past along the way, well done Bonny
We have had a S@#T-load of rain this summer. Usually the lawns start looking a bit brown in August but not this year! A lot of thunderstorms with quite spectacular lightning! A tornado or two thrown in just to liven things up a bit. I have a rescue cat (a classic "Tortie" with the half black, half orange nose). She was the runt of a litter born in a farmer's shed during the winter and the whole lot were underweight, so she was very tiny indeed and needed a lot of attention but is quite a big girl now (ten years on). All of her siblings survived to be adopted. Adopt or rescue rather than buy.

I would trade my summer for yours anytime, here in Oklahoma it has been a long hot summer. Many 100 degree days and a little above 100, Fahrenheit that is, at 2000 ft elevation and about 35 degrees latitude, summers are harsh, I’ll take that nice cool rainy UK weather any day😉
The life you've given wee Bonny is the best, Heidi! And she did so well, her first time cruising with you. She's a natural sailor and perfect co-pirate! I must say, I never thought that screwing and pumping until limp could produce a nice cup of coffee... 😉 Learn something new nearly every time I watch your videos 😁. Another great vlog. I am glad Bonny is liking 'outside' cruising. Mum has had several cats since she has been living on her narrowboat, and of them all Waah-Li really enjoyed riding outside (weather permitting). I have photos of her on the roof of the boat, looking around and enjoying the sights.

She is still not her correct weight … 7lbs to go - Frenchies are quite stocky due to their deep chests she has only put on 1lb since I’ve had her but she walks miles each day

I'm in Chicago and it's been hot and sunny! We've had our share of storms and rain but for the majority of time, HOT! Bonny did quite well in her rooftop accomodations 🥰 Safe travels till the next time!
We have had a mild winter in Tasmania (so far) and spring only a few weeks away. .Glad you're happy with Bonny a companion for those lonely nights. I was born in Ashton. under Lyne so used to the vagaries of the British weather. moved my family here 50 years ago for a better life and found paradise (literally -check the map lol). I do miss the canals and railways and have made a point of checking them out on my visits to see family in Higher Poynton. I am sure you will know the Boars head. Last trip I stayed at the Canal side B & B wonderful spot. Keep up the videos so I can see the canals with feeling the cold lol

It is sooo beautiful there. Here in S. California it has been in the 80's and 90's fahrenheit. I would have sooo much fun exploring as I Love history.

We have something along the same line with coffee but we boil the water and put it into a flask, you pump the machine once you have the coffee in the machine. Sounds like yours but they are different. Pretty town but such a pretty area. Bonny has done amazingly well on the roof. I must admit I’d be tying mine up too, I’d not take the chance of them jumping in. Great video, take care and see you next week. 💕

I think a french press for making coffee with your own ground coffee would have been better than the pump one. Then you could keep it ready made in another flask.
I have one and use it as said in the video but they are a nightmare to clean out and require lots of water and rinsing

Some have tried but the signal don’t reach so far with all the steel as narrowboats are like faraday cages …. Also it’s hard to see screen out in the daylight
