  • On 23rd September every year, we celebrate International Day of Sign Language. This day was first celebrated in 2018 as a part of International Day of Sign Languages all over the world. The UN assembly has proclaimed 23rd September in order to raise awareness regarding the importance of Sign Language in the full realisation of human rights of the people who are deaf.
At Lotus Valley International School, Noida, Special Educators and Occupational therapists from the CLE department engaged with students from UKG to class VIII to raise awareness of Indian Sign Language during the week 18th- 23rd September. Multiple sessions were conducted across school in classrooms and special sessions, where students learnt how to engage and interact with the people who are deaf and mute. Students also learnt how important it is for people to understand and communicate using sign language and learn it just as we take initiative to learn other languages. A few magic words were also learnt and practised by students under the guidance of the team.
We hope that students will keep practising and adding new words to their vocabulary of Indian Sign language and learn to communicate with others who use it as their first language.
