Explain. Many marriages are not & have many reasons why they didn't work. Marriage in action, faith, communication, etc. or marriage thru the government recognizing your "status?" I believe in marriage but I don't believe in multiple marriages, I don't think you need to marry for any reason except two people KNOW - I don't need papers as everything you do single, you can do married (government). Marriage (defined by what action, in front of who, etc.,) comes with absolute assurance that just shows up, is concrete without a single word spoken, both people have no desire to look any further, decide to secure, simplify & make each other's dreams come true. Third, you do not have to be married to have a DPA, POA, etc., to make medical decisions for another person. That person can create legal documents that delegate who, what, how, when, where, etc. As for kids, again NO, they are not always protected as we have seen step relatives get more, we have seen many sue each other (imagine no will because a living will isn't always considered binding once a person passes). I am pretty sure that is not the type of marriage the initial comment is referencing.
