- Golden Retriever Meets Completely Traumatized Rescue Puppy
My Golden Retriever helps rescue Scout, a completely traumatized rescue puppy. We have no idea how to even begin building his confidence, he's one of the most scared dogs we have ever rescued.

Thank you so much ❤
I worked with traumatized kids. Kids who had been trafficked as toddlers. One of my students, 6 years old, was new and wouldn’t speak in the classroom but would growl if we got too close. He sat under his desk on the floor. I put tape down on the floor around his desk and told him I would not enter his safe area so he did not need to growl. I told him I know you don’t trust people but I will not ever touch your body, watch me and you will see I will not touch anyone’s body, you are safe here. I would sit on the floor outside the taped area and would read books to him, talk to him. It took 3 days for him to talk to me and two more weeks before he came out from under his desk. In a school year he learned to read and write and laugh and play. When he moved out of my classroom into a regular classroom he drew me a picture of us holding hands and smiling. It’s my favorite piece of art. This dog reminds me of that boy.
Dearest, precious, lady. Thank you. You have an extraordinarily patient, healing heart. Little do you know that you leave a legacy that will affect a blood line for the better. Beautiful, beautiful you.
God Bless you for what you did for that little boy❤. I pray future teachers will understand him and help him as you did 👏
That’s tough work girl. 🙏
My God that is so heartbreaking, Jesus Christ that those evil fkrs still live freely on God's greenbearrh!
Heartwarming.
Humans that abuse animals should be jailed and banned from ever having animals. Poor baby, this breaks my heart.
I totally agree with you!!
Animals abusers should just be shot. People who abuse animals have deeper psychological issues and will most likely hurt somebody in the future. God gave us dogs as companions, literally mans best friend
What on earth have people done this to poor dog for him to react like that, the only miniscule bit of safety he feels is when hes backed into a corner. So so sad..
It could just be that he has had very little human contact, or he has been alone. It's not always abuse, though unfortunately that is a possibility.
@unavailableusername9694 There was footage of him doing ok with other dogs I believe? whatever the reason its so sad.
A lot of the dogs they rescue are from North Macedonia and because they mention he's never been in a home before he was probably a street dog or born into a shelter where there simply wasn't enough money food or love for this dog. And it's pretty common for people to abuse street dogs so that's probably what happened sadly. Thank God he made it to a place that he's going to be loved.❤
I was going ask the same thing. It breaks my heart when I see this. He’s such a beautiful dog!
Yeah honestly not sure, when Happy Shelter picked him up off the street he was already like this. He really flinches any time you go near him, dogs have a fear period when they’re younger and if something frightens them, they can be terrified for years. Poor thing we’ve never seen a dog so scared, a lot of patience is needed with him 🤞
That dog has been beaten non stop by someone. So sad. He doesn't even know how to be a dog. You guys seem very patient. Thank for giving him a chance. ❤
‘He doesn’t even know how to be a dog’. That says everything.
So sad to see this doggie so scared and locked in him self. And you don't give up on him.
❤😢😢
It’s so heartbreaking to see such a beautiful animal so broken 😢 thank you for showing him patience and love ❤️
I transported a dog that was traumatized like this from Oklahoma to CO a few years ago. My pet sitter fostered her and it was super super difficult because she was so terrified. The first week she had her I went for a walk with them, and she got out of her harness and ran under a parked car. I had to drag her out..... it was heartbreaking, but the good news is that today she is a completely different dog. She is super happy and carefree!!! She just needed love, care and time.....
Well done. It's great to know that they can heal with patience and time. Baby steps.
Greetings from denver. Blessings to you for your kindness. May you live long and both of you love joyously.
Me too. Absolutely 😉
W H E W❤
Man is the cruellest creature to walk the face if the earth they would abuse and kill anything shameful
3 years ago I adopted a traumatized puppy. I remember she was so scared. She tried to hide under the car and when we got home she would hide in corners and avoid us. The vet told us she was likely abused severely.
I sat in the middle of the room with a thing of treats. Everytime the puppy came to me, she got a treat. Before long she was sitting beside me.
3 years later, Willow is a happy and very affectionate dog. She loves to snuggle and play. She can still be very anxious about certain things (she has to see a professional to get her nails trimmed). I'll always remember the first time she played with a toy and I could see the joy in her. She's my best friend these days.
Seeing an 11 month old baby that afraid hurts me to the core of my being. Poor sweetheart. Thank you so much for helping these animals. I have a rescue who would've been euthanized if it weren't for her foster family, and she's an absolute angel. I'm infinitely grateful to foster families like yours, for giving dogs like mine a second chance at life.
Me too, I’m so heartbroken 💔 😢
People are concerned about dogs being so scared for being treated bad, while eating other animals that were even badly traumatised and then Murdered! Why this selective sympathy? We humans are equally bad to all animals, but you notice it only when it's about animals you care for!💯
@aastha0063thank you for your gift of a buzz kill. Much appreciated.
@aastha0063your opinion may be somewhat true, sadly, but most of us don’t have bonds with cows, chickens, etc. I don’t want ANY animals to be mistreated or scared. Now with this said…how about you not fucking assume you know shit about what strangers on the Internet eat or pretend to know what we fucking care about! Dumb Ass! What you can safely assume is I DGAF about your opinion! Now have a seat 🖕 and watch your mouth!
Me too 😢😢😢😢
Retrievers and labs are the best with traumatized and socially awkward dogs... I've paired them several times to heal adopted and emotionally challenged dogs... ❤❤❤
Think other gentle dogs can help.
Poor sweet baby. Never seen a dog so traumatized. It hurts so bad. How can a beautiful dog like this get into this condition? It's simply incomprehensible.
So so sad to see a dog like this 😔
@thegoldenkobefamilydas machen „Menschen aus ihm“ 🙀😡
Unfortunately it's not so rare. I worked in an animal shelter. It's unbelievable how some human beings treat their reliable friends - dogs, cats, even rabbits. I didn't count how many hours I spent sitting in a kennel, just being there, silent or talking, offering treats.
And when they learned to trust again, they are so thankful and loyal towards their new family / owner.
I adopted a dog that had been abused by her owner. He abandoned her at the pound when he got tired of beating her. I always suspected something was up. He took me to the emergency room because she bit me on the wrist with her canine tooth. For the first 15 days, she was literally going crazy because I couldn't get her to bite me. She liked being petted, but she always expected to get hit. It was a tough time. She wouldn't let me leave the house, putting her paws on my feet, just in case I didn't come back. She died nine years ago, her last year in palliative care, in an orthopedic bed, with the bathroom at home. She had dysplasia in her front legs. I bathed her myself. She ate powdered kibble because of dental problems, meat and fish broth, vegetables, and stew-half a liter of it. I had everything sorted out, all I needed was a phone call. When I discovered a pressure ulcer, that was it. The vet couldn't believe it; it was hard for her because she didn't want to go under any circumstances. She couldn't leave me alone. They were 16 wonderful years. She lived as she deserved. She is at home, along with her partner and 3 cats.
You are angels, truly. Thank you for giving these terrified dogs a safe haven. Your calm, loving, patient care is everything.
Someone's hurt this dog. Then you came along kind and giving. Thankyou for changing his life
Thank you so much for rescuing Scout ❤ thank you for your care and patience with both him and Cindy ❤
If you have room in the garden setup a shad there. So new arrivals can decompress without being forced into the house. Many rescues havent been in a house. Its another stress factor. Also they are right next to the gras. Which makes it a lot easier to go for a wee and po.
That what i thought .
A good idea, just too cold right now in a British winter.
Much respect to you both. This poor animal is one of the lucky ones that has finally been given love and safety. ❤
Poor baby how cruel can people be😢thank god hes safe now God bless❤
Should start the moving with slow petting away from teeth. Walk away, pet again. Repeat as needed.
Where is the Golden Retriever!!!?????
@Aldo-z1b 13:38 ?? He brings retriever over. Just to experience the presence of the other dog..
people? oh you mean the monsters! about 8 billions monsters in the planet. the breed other animals and sell their meat at the butcher. and then bring their little kids to see all the dead animals. little rabbits, pigs, cows. Just whatever the humans want because they are above the other species.
You’re wonderful people. Thank you
Its difficult to watch him so scared .He has obviously been through awful experiences. 😢
Thanks so much guys for helping him. He is making progress. Look forward to hopefully see him interacting with other dogs soon.❤
You guys are angels!!!! Thank you for the work you’re doing and all the love and care you’re pouring into this beautiful dog!
It's heartbreaking to see the dog so scared and anxious. God bless you for helping these dogs.❤
It makes me so angry what some supposed people do to these animals that they are so traumatized!
I hate and despise such “people”
Yeah honestly it’s really hard to see, we were shocked by how scared he is
@hanskondens5354in some countries children are taught to be mean to dogs to keep them away from there homes ..in other countries it is sickening how bad dogs and cats are treated..after witnessing animal abuse we will not travel to those countries again..we saw it in Mexico and costa rico
Makes me sick to see a dog end up like this. Whoever did this to our little guy should have shame brought on them forever. Really hoping we can bring him out of his shell again
Pulling him on the leash- any other way?
Poor baby. I can’t believe anyone could create this fear in a dog. So sad.
ES DESGARRADOR VERLO ASI CUANTO DAÑO LE HAN HECHO MALDITOS SEAN TODA SU VIDA 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Heartbreaking... glad he is the best hands now..
What lovely kind and caring people you are. Scout will be very happy with you.
Those tiny steps (eating, exploring, finally peeing) are HUGE. Slow and steady, he’s in safe hands 💛🐾
Thank you sooo much for helping these poor lil cuties ❤❤❤
My heart just broke a bit seeing that lovely boy so scared in the corner. I know you two can bring his life back again. ❤
So pleased he’s finally found someone who cares and he can grow to love ❤
The thought of whatever had to happen to this poor dog in Macedonia to make him this terrified is infuriating to me. On a positive note, I read about a teenager in North Macedonia that started a shelter on his own to give some relief to the dire stray population there. It's slightly comforting to know that someone in Macedonia is attempting to make change.
I don't know whether he is or not, but if Scout is from the same part of Macedonia that one or more of the other dogs (I want to say Luna was one of them, but I can't remember for sure; Louie and Joky might have been as well) were from, then (for who knows what reason) the people in that particular region/town beat the street dogs. It's super sad.
G-d bless you both for all you are doing to help these precious animals ❤ 😢🙏
Scout is the best boy!!!! My heart is so happy you guys took him in to give him a better chance finding his forever home. Thank you!
You two are angels thank you so much sweet people you are marvelous❤❤❤❤❤
Sweet little boy, what horrors have you experienced 😢.
I'm so glad that you are finally in a safe place.
It'll be okay, Scout, more than okay ❤️.
JJ and Ella, you are the best!
This is heartbreaking 😢
Thank you for everything you do!
Can't imagine what these lovely dogs have been through--we're rooting for you, Scout!❤❤
Poor sweet Scout. Thank you.😢
This made me tear up, I’ve never seen a dog this scared… Hang in there sweet Scout❤️
Right? I've never seen a dog that was so scared they didn't even shiver. Ella and Jay-Jay are the best home for such a petrified pup.
Happiness and relief are only a few weeks away for Scout, he just doesn't know how lucky he is just yet.
These two won't give up on him and that's just what he needs. I look forward to seeing him running around with ease and joy, like it should be.
U should have taken the create to him and then carried him into the house in the create...
I am so impressed with the patience and love these people domonstrate... good luck.
I just upgraded my membership. I truly hope most of that money goes to you guys. So happy you are helping these poor animals. ❤❤❤
I can not describe, how much i love these people, who take care these poor dogs and their pation to give them a new live!
Cover Scout with a blanket so he can feel like he is hidden and cover him up before picking him up.
We are wanting to foster dogs, and this is amazing. Thank you
15:26 Aw his cute face
yeaa😭❣️ i was gonna mention it too how joyful he looks💖
Bless his sweet heart🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Bless u and Ella for helping all of the dogs uv every rescued and i really love ur channel u guyes are the best and pls never give up on rescuing dogs!
Heart breaking, poor baby. Metal bowls can be difficult for traumatised dogs, they can be noisy and the reflections in the metal can create fear.
You both are brilliant! Taking care of all the dogs who are so difficult and making them happy pets! Congratulations! I hope you both have fun in your journeys of rehabilitation!
I cry when i see any animal that scared of people and i get so angry when I think of who has done this to the poor creature.
You both do amazing work, you have kind hearts. He knows and feels you are good people. Heartbreaking but uplifting too. Love to see real kindness. Trust is the most difficult thing to get.Thank you.
Why no water bowl?
Potty training?
Poor baby, God Bless You.
I take heart that he’s still very young and that you are both so caring and dedicated. I have great hope for Scout and I’m cheering you on!! 🫶🇨🇦
You two are angels 😇 omg this puppy 🐶 needs you two! Thank you guys for helping Scout'
I can't fathom what he must have gone through to be like this when he is so very young. Please don't give up on this beautiful baby.
I love how every person in the comment section is an animal expert who never does anything wrong.
That’s OK! My rescue didn’t go pee pee for 3 days and the vet said that is OK for rescue dogs. So don’t fret yet!!
Poor pup, thanks for taking care ❤of him
Only humans are capable of doing this to a dog 😢❤
I agree, they do the work of angels but other animals help distressed animals, there'res many videos out there showing other animals helping nature but again, I agree with you, these 2 people do such a great job and should get some sort of financial support from a government entity to help with their wonderful, thankless life saving work! Cheers Darren
Not really. Animals brutally kill each other all the time. Wolves have been documented torturing and killing prey just for fun, not even eating it after it’s dead. Humans are the only species that actually try to help other animal species.
Bless you for rescuing these poor dogs. It's lovely to see them have new lives in a loving home.
i found this channel early last year, and i have watched every single video religiously. every video is so heartwarming, and i aspire to be just like you two
You are fantastic people, thank you so much from dogs everywhere for doing this. It's so easy to ignore the plight of these pups, your an inspiration for the patients and love you give so freely in helping these dogs.
Thank you atleast for trying to help all the rescues
Seeing a dog like that breaks my heart ❤️
How dare RUclips hold this video for 3 minutes from me
Ty both for fostering these dogs with care, compassion, patience & love. God bless u all ❤
Its wonderful that you put in the hard work initially so that you have a gem of a dog in 6 to 8 months.
Thanks!
Thank you so much 💙
love you guys new here thank you for what you do ❤❤❤❤
I totally appreciate your kindness and patience and understand there are practical issues. Can I suggest using a harness rather than dragging him on a collar or slip lead? That could have been painful and possibly more frightening. Allowing Scout to adjust step by step, looking away, and all the other things you do for your rescues warms my heart, thank you
❤❤❤Hello❤love your love🎉🎉 for little bit🎉❤ give small treats different places in his area❤❤❤❤❤❤(I did this to my 2month pitbull terrier
Stroke him, and gentle touch that doesn't hurt takes time for him to realise he's not being hurt...

Wow the way Cindy immediately comes out her crate!!!
Please keep us posted on Scout. I am praying for him.❤❤❤
With all that is going on in this world, it was an absolute delight to come across your channel and feel the love you have given these dogs. Well done from Australia.
17:19 that’s just revenge
I luv you guys- you are both earth angels ❤️🦮❤️
That dogs needs a lot of Love, that's it. Just a lot of Love.
ILS N'ECOUTENT RIEN ces vidéos semblent pour aider mais lui n'écoute rien du tout et ce pauvre chien est arrivé juste apès Cindy et ils n'y connaissent rien c'est pire encore pour ces animaux
Ca me révolte
Il doivent demander conseil à des VRAIS PROFESSIONNELS
I love following you guys because of the love you share bringing these pups into your home. Could you pull Scout onto a blanket & then drag the blanket to show him even more of your warmth?
Oh bless you both and your pups! 💛 covering his area was so smart! Anxiously awaiting an update on this sweet soul. 💛💛💛💛💛 thank you so much for all your work and patience and endless love.
Beautiful puppies 🐶
Oh my gosh you'all are wonderful people 🙂❤️🙂❤️🙂❤️
We had a dog like this, totally shut down and checked out. Her personality coming out was the best thing and she was the goofiest dog we ever had. She would run sideways and sleep on her back with her legs straight up! Having another dog to be her buddy was more than half the work done, but she would react badly to men and people wearing things on their heads, so we think a man wearing hats would hurt her as she was also scared of some objects.
Yes, our rescued dog was very wary of all men for months. It was a big relief when he one day moved closer to let our neighbour pet him. He had to take time to figure out that some men are nice friendly people who get along with people and dogs.
I really admire people who help these dogs
Scout is a very sensitive soul just like my dog, and he looks very similar too. I am crying watching this knowing that could’ve been anyones dog in terrified position. Not all humans deserve dogs
And neither do these people who drag dogs around by their NECKS and then video it for money.
God bless you and little Scout
fantastic job with poor puppy. even experts have to start at the begining.
They re no where near experts they re clueless.
Thank you for the kindness you guys show to these poor dogs, you are a blessing to those in need of love and attention.
I wish you all the luck with scout
Hope he gets soon a happy Dog
God Bless you JJ and Beautiful Ella for taking the time out to help Beautiful Scout I have never seen a dog so scared as scout is but I know in time JJ that you and Beautiful Ella will eventually get through to him and in time we will all see the big difference in him I would like to take the time out to appropriate all the hard work and all the Love 💞 that you and Ella puts into helping all these Beautiful rescue dogs you put in a lot of hard work and don't ask for anything back for it that's why you two are the most fantastic couple on RUclips and you have hearts of gold 💛💛 always so sweet and so caring about every single dog that you rescue and a BIG THANK YOU TO BEAUTIFUL MUM FOR LETTING YOU USE HER HOUSE 🏡 SHE SUCH A SWEET PERSON WITH A HEART OF GOLD 💛 AS WELL FOR LETTING YOU TAKE ALL THESE DOGS INTO HER HOUSE 🏠
We have one like this from Romania, trust me after a heart breaking first week or to, she has become the best dog we have ever had.♥️
The best way to get them to realize you aren’t to be feared is really good food. I’ve had a few rescues with sketchy pasts but when they finally blossom it’s so rewarding!
Crikey, I just can't stand to see.such a lovely.baby in so much fear xxx
Thank you for rescuing Scout ..poor baby . .happy he's safe now .
YAY SCOUT VID!!!
Thank you dear sweet man and lady!! You are so lovely!! Thank you for being sensitive and allowing the traumatized animal to "come out of his shell" in his own time - however long that takes.
You two deserve much love and honor for your kindness and patience.
I was a little confused that she said treats are not the answer when the dog was in the freeze state. In Rockys videos it worked a lot of times. It helped better the more treat motivated the dogs were. Especially because the smell could help to break the state and associate the leash with something positive. He also just applied gentle pressure and did small steps. I hope it worked out better the rest of the video. (I paused at 03:17)
I think he’s too scared even for treats 😢
Sometimes when things are too much for a dog they won't receive treats, they're too shut down and scared. Until they've decompressed and gotten over the initial fear they won't take them. Even my golden retriever won't take treats off vets because she gets too scared. And that's a goldie. They live for food 😂 he's way too shit down to receive anything right now, training and treats won't work when they're over their threshold.
When dogs are frozen like this they won't take treats. It takes time and patience, and not a silly RUclipsr who's like "o m g I'm so scared right now". Rocky Kanaka knows how to be patient.
@Screechie78
You also watch Rocky, right? So you probabbly will know some of his patterns, one of it is always trying to offer a treat, mostly after he sit down with the back turn to them, talking to the camera for a bit. He also tried the "pacman" a few times with dogs that were more or equally frozen. They mostly start to relax once they are not the center of the attention. But it usually take some time.
It's also not about if they take the treat right away or not. He uses it as sensory input to see if it manages to break the frozen state.
And the approach to just drag the dog outside and then back in. Was not really helping the process.
I guess the way should have been blocked before the dog came in, so they can lead them to the designated place where they can decompress after the exhausting journey. Maybe the next time.
I guess they were equally stressed from the travel as the dog. They learn along the way and helped more dogs than the most of us provably did. But I agree, it takes much more patience in cases like this.
My dog was frozen for 2 weeks. I would just hug her for few hours and let sit for 2 weeks. She's very happy now.
Magnifique, bravo et merci !!!
