Do you want a list of timestamps of audio skips/hiccups to check? Obviously, if they're in the source, and not some weird RUclips thing, there's nothing you can really do about it, and so far, most of the ones I've noticed either don't cut out speech at all, or leave plenty of speech to infer whatever's missing. And for the record, I'd much rather have a version with weird issues than nothing. It's a bloody intriguing story, and you've clearly put a ton of work in, already.
I downloaded the original when it was up before and the audio is OK but the video is a little different so I'm thinking the audio got messed up in an edit?
The Atari VCS tried to fall into the same trap. The person who spearheaded the 'Ataribox' idea initially, made a run for the campaign money. Fortunately, Atari (all two dozen of them) still had a functioning company head who promptly shitcanned him (and the moron in Boulder CO who initiated the hardware design but then tried to kill himself skydiving) and reformatted the product into a competent Ryzen box (thanks to legacy Apple product finishers in San Jose 'SurfaceInk'). Not only am I typing to you on it now (via Ubuntu) but the AtariOS side (of the dual OS configuration) just got it's copy of Atari 50 installed (which supports the paddle controllers combined with the classic controllers). It's done it's job to allow me to test Proton / Linux on Steam before the Steam Deck arrived (2 years after the VCS was released) nicely.
It would be that Paul Andrews wasn't _really_ the president but it was in fact his third and final clone: Very Paul - who was also the villain the whole time.
What kills me is it became obvious early on that some heavy duty fraud and slander was going on, but Indigogo became an active participant in such by blocking anybody who called them out on it and did so with impunity.
@@Maggerama I'll give Mr. Levy the benefit of the doubt that he was creating robot sex children for the good of humanity, but HOW ON EARTH would you get funding for it?! WHAT factory would make them?! WHO (apart from Levy) would even admit being involved in anything like that?
It's particularly insane that what they promised was well within technical capability. It's not even like they were promising something they couldn't actually deliver.
Once they went with the fuse emulation option rather than pure hardware then most of their market edge was gone. But at the very least they could have just sat down for months doing controller to key mappings for every single game. That would at least given them some edge over the 47374882 very competent retroarch handhelds available from China.
God, Im not even from the UK and only vaguely know what a zx spectrum even is. That being said it was still interesting in the same way a horrific dumpster fire is. What a clusterfuck.
There was a new Sinclair retro model (console version, not handheld) by a different company this year. I have one. The manual is like a university textbook. Cool little console (you can also buy just the board).
I lost track of what was going on about 15 minutes in. He has that English guy talking about the fabulous lives of celebrities voice schtick from those old tabloid shows on vh1 or the E! channel xD
From Wikipedia, as at November 2019: On 5 February 2019, The Register reported that Retro Computers had been wound up on 1 February 2019[38] following a petition presented by Private Planet Ltd[39]. The sole director of Private Planet, Janko Mrsic-Flogel, was a director of Retro Computers from April 2016 to August 2018[40] and also used the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform to raise over US$2.5 million[41] to produce the Gemini (PDA) for Planet Computers Ltd. Seems odd, Janko didn’t much air time in the video.
Janko was only the director, and AFAIK he didn't do anything publicly egregious. What is there to say about him, specifically in regards to the Vega+? Yeah he might have been in on the scam but...that's about all you can say, nothing concrete.
RCL has officially been wound up in February 2019, so if you didn' get your V+ yet, there's no one left to produce it now. Not that there was any money left for production after the lawyers had been paid anyways. In a better world, scammers would be liable with their personal fortune and property for the damages they did, regardless of the class of company. But that's not how it works in RL unfortunately.
McDonald's used to sell them. They had to stop in the early '90s cuz the styrofoam packages Paul Andrews designed were bad for the environment, but I think they came with 3 cakes. So, sure.

@@gavindoherty7809 the existing emulators for handhelds have poor compatibility (Russian software won't work, and this is very interesting software that makes Speccy a full workstation, also with many unique games)

I had - well, still have - a ZX Spectrum, and it boggles the mind anyone would try to revive that dinosaur as a console... when it never was a console, it was a home computer! Also, I fail to see why anyone would need this thing - or the console they did release - when you can emulate all those ZX Spectrum games for free. And the keyboard is a far closer control system to the original keyboard of the ZX - my hands are still "set" for that kind of control, not the ABCD- NES style thing.
People love plug N play game consoles. They are a fast and easy way thing to setup at home for or quick gaming. This also helps with idiot proofing since I have several friends who ask me to set up their emulation because they are both impatient and inept with computers. So there is a market, not a BIG market, but a market for these type of devices.
@@ptonpc Not even sure we would have needed that, since we have perfectly serviceable Spectrum emulators. Or remakes. I remember playing Jetpac on a windows-ran exe file back under WinXP.
Swift Nimblefoot idk but some people may love some games on it. It gives them a nostalgic vibe. And who gave them a Nostalgic vibe? Exactly, the developers of the games did that years ago. So, some people, may just prefer to actually buy the product and handing some money to them via license rights instead of downloading (stealing) it for free and piss straight into their faces by doing it
I found you because of your history of SplatterHouse but, Man, I have become obsessed with your kick scammers videos! Their amazing! You have a new subscriber!
for me, this proves, that crowd funding needs either to be taken down, or get some rules, laws or regulation in place, so that a company cant play god on other peoples money. they could pay the company in installments, like in a builder/contractors work, so when they reach a milestone, they can get paid certain amount of money
The problem is, that it's too easy to lie about developments and milestones. All crowd funding sites make it clear that you support a project AT YOUR OWN RISK. The morel of any of these kickscammers is, only support a campaign if you are happy that you may never see a return on your investment.
The problem is they need to have someone personally liable for the campaign and if the campaign isn't fulfilled by the deadline that person has their kneecaps smashed in.
@@volrath__That's my personal policy I've backed a few things. The first Gamebuino, The Gamebuino META, a keychain multitool, and three video games. in ALL cases, I've been able to either get the item, or play the game, even if the game side of things moves rather slowly.
unfreezing funds after a milestone, as long as a substantial part of backers agree the milestone has been reached, exists in ethereum fundraising contracts. while most ICOs during the hype did not use it, at least in this area you get to choose those that follow this model
I don't have the attention span to watch movies anymore, yet I can't stop coming back to this video despite its length. This saga is like a train crashing as soon as it leaves the station but continually tries to keep going only to immediately crash again every time.
Wow, this is impressively exhaustive and just thinking about the amount of research beyond what's on screen, files downloaded, text typed, editing time invested, and reading, in your jovial tones, a 90+ min. script that could be seen as rather dry...well, it's exhausting! That said, Believe it or not with this format you've inspired me to move forward with a timeline project I've been putting off. While never wanting anything to do with a crowd funded game console. So thanks for that. :P
Let's be honest, any drama is going to be more entertaining than playing some crummy ZX Spectrum games that you could already emulate on any number of devices anyways.
@Ed Jack This is a smart thing to do. I'll never understand why anyone even uses those sites tbh, the vast majority of cases - even the most well-funded projects ever (see: "Coolest Cooler") end up having disastrous outcomes, delays, and often never fulfill every claim they make. The issue is that the fundamental concept behind crowdfunding 'ideas' by random people is utterly flawed - how could anyone think it's a good idea for hundreds and thousands of people to give their money willingly to a random person, trusting them to be able to manage the production of a product and a business with no prior experience and nothing except a fucking idea alone? Most 'idea' kickstarters never have a final product, they just show a prototype, and people fund it expecting them to just make more of a perfect prototype or whatever, when in reality the truth is that they have no idea what they're going to run into when they actually began production. For these reasons among others, I think all of these crowdfunding sites are retarded, a perfect platform for incompetent fools and scammers, and anyone who regularly wastes their money on these websites surely has something wrong with them, because so many of the projects funded by these sites are stupid or end up being disastrous like this one.
@Ed Jack I view it as a better form of gambling. I never put in more than I can afford to lose. I try to play my odds and sometimes my 5-20 dollars ends up being a win and a new game or something. Or at worst an anecdote.
@USA Reject Shovel Knight was crowd funded and they not only delivered what they said they would but a lot of extra content and like, 4 extra games iirc? Plus a digital card game. Literally nothing went wrong.
My phone died while watching this video, an S22 Ultra, almost new. I emailed messaged Samsung customer service since I got it from their store, their reply: Blame Paul Andrews.
To be honest, Samsung warranty service wanted me to send my device at my cost from California to their service center in New Mexico. There is a Samsung service center 90 minutes away from me in Santa Barbara, but they wouldn't let me go there. I bought a Pixel. Samsung customer service sucks.
I think the funniest quote, that often gets overlooked, is: "We are further ahead than we were this time last year" Like yep I would hope you made some fucking progress on the project after 365 days. Fucking hell.
HUGE respect to you guys for making this, the amount of research and script planning must have taken forever! they should have got you to work on the VEGA+ it would have been finished in days!
It's clear that Fogarty objected to the use of his face in the video at the time stamped parts of the original video. There is no way that RUclips would have upheld the complaint because if you search 'Lee Fogarty' in google ( the parent company ) image search then the number one returned image is that exact image of Fogarty's face : Ergo it's already in the public domain. In order to uphold the complaint then Google would have to concede that itself is in violation and remove the image from its database. Clue: It was never going to happen. I'm pleased that Daniel has found a way to return it to his channel though, that's where it deserves to be.
@Trevor Walker Yes, it is now in this edited version. That was the change made to avoid the complaint. It was not blurred in the original. I still believe it was unnecessary as Fogarty's behaviour in the community has brought so much publicity on himself that his image and personal information is all very much in the public domain and a matter of record. You can't claim a violation of privacy when you have spent three years being very public around the very issue of this video. But the man is a clown and throws legal threats around like confetti at a wedding.
@FuturePants This has nothing to do with nationality. If anything the UK laws on libel and slander are the strictest in the world. This was a complaint by a private person to RUclips. The complaint was not considered because the person making the video folded like a cheap napkin and did not have the courage of his convictions to have the complaint considered. Nothing legal happened. Nothing even happened within the rules of youtube. The channel was notified, as per the terms, that there was a complaint. The channel decided not to argue the complaint. That's what happened. It has nothing to do with the US or the UK and their myriad of differing laws. If you think you are ill-educated on a subject then it is best to study rather than shout to the world just how little you know.

there was no consequences for any of them. Not for the LLPs that harassed rights holders and GOSH while knowingly pocketing crowdfunded money. Not for the SRA that covered it all up. Not for Levy, Janko, Cauldwell, or Martin. Not for Indiegogo that seems to have spent more time punishing disgruntled backers then the company that used them to garner their blow money. The losers were the backers, plain and simple.

Thank you so much for this huge Kickscammers episode, DJ Slopes. Always love your work. Keep on being amazing.
The Nintendo DS is the perfect handheld device to run Spectrum emulators. The screen resolution is exactly the same (256×192) so there's no scaling required; and you have the benefits of both re-mappable physical controls and a virtual Spectrum keyboard on the touchscreen.
This video also says the opposit. The first product they sent out was pretty good and on time what it tells you is that good management and handling of your licenses is important and before backing something checkup on the state of the company or accept the risk and treat it more like an investment than a product purchase. I dont agree with that but still thats how crowdfunding does work.

The fatal flaw was the project team changing right after the money was raised, to be taken over by scammers.
Yes they left themselves too open to be took over by the scumbags running Sinclair research
Yeah, I guess that explains why everything went to hell in a handbasket so quickly after the first Vega did so well.
Is the reason known why so many quit immediately after the money was raised?
@@kelsohunt460 It's stated about halfway in why Paul Andrews and Chris Smith left RCL. In short, internal bickering between those two and David Levy.

I don't know what's happening either. All I know is that it's somehow Paul Andrews fault.
Seems odd, Janko didn’t much air time in the video.
fidgitnz Yeah, this could use an update.
“Selling like hot cakes” to be fair I can’t remember the time I actually bought a hot cake so maybe 11 does qualify? Probably Paul’s fault either way.

If only RCL had just made an updated version of the Spectrum and had an online site where people could buy games.

@@volrath__That's my personal policy
I've backed a few things.
The Retro Computers website hasn't had a blog update since May 2019. If the story is still ongoing, I would love to see a follow-up video.
Careful! This lot may flag the video again and then blame it on Paul Andrews!
Let's be honest, any drama is going to be more entertaining than playing some crummy ZX Spectrum games that you could already emulate on any number of devices anyways.
@dbright What was it?
True
@Ed Jack I view it as a better form of gambling. I never put in more than I can afford to lose. I try to play my odds and sometimes my 5-20 dollars ends up being a win and a new game or something. Or at worst an anecdote.
@USA Reject Shovel Knight was crowd funded and they not only delivered what they said they would but a lot of extra content and like, 4 extra games iirc? Plus a digital card game. Literally nothing went wrong.

So you were able to post it back here and not have to mirror on Guru Larry's channel? That's awesome, but what changed? Did they back down?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think he just edited the few bits that had been flagged as a privacy violation.
I think it was that one twitter picture where they covered Fogarty's face with a clowns.
