NBA Dynasties may be a thing of the past

  • Nuggets losing to the Timberwolves has revealed to me that 6 teams have one the title for the last 6 seasons in the NBA. The days of dominance by a singular team over the entire league ended when Kevin Durant left the Warriors in 2019. The Nuggets I believed had the best chance to be one and that of course aged like milk but them returning to the finals is still very likely. Will there ever be another NBA dynasty in the near future or at most will there be just back to back wins and that's all?

    Don’t let mj, kobe, shaq, and steph fool you, it was done because they are generational players with different mentality. The superstars of today may have generational talent but their mentality ain’t on the same realm yet. Jokic is a perfect example I love the guy but he was not as passionate about basketball as kobe and mj and that’s what separated them, their hunger to always win it all no matter the cost.
    Unlike the other guy who says “it’s just basketball” when he loses and blames everyone but himself.

      I don't see Jokic's personality as a bad thing towards the sport I
      or his results. Work ethic isn't just grinding the hell out of yourself but to have a balanced life, free of bad manners and attitudes (LeBron and his lack of accountability, for example).
      If you take Jokic full deep into the sport, he will not be as good as he is now.

    The salary cap with the 2 aprons now makes a dynasty almost impossible. The NBA did this to stop all the super team stuff and it worked but they also did it for parity. Now the only chance you'll see a dynasty is if a team drafts right and players develop quick. Cause almost every player resigns when they're rookie deal is up. So it means you keep the guys you draft, if you choose to, for their 1st 7-8 years.

    We haven't seen any parity like this since the '70s, but another dynasty will arise in a few years given that teams build correctly through the draft, acquire the right veterans, and hire the correct coaches to lead the team.

    coaches and front office are crucial because they provide continuity when your bench gets poached. Most dynasties were powered by versatile and often unselfish systems that could withstand player turnover, developed by good coaches (Phil Jackson, Pop, Kerr, Auerbach, Pat Riley). So spurs with wemby def have dynasty potential.
    Other than that, maybe OKC and their youth with Daigneault and good camaraderie can resist players being poached and sustain a dynasty.

    The league is just too talented now for a dynasty. A dynasty occurs when a team is so significantly better than the rest that they cant be stopped. And today there are just too many good teams. Like to have a dynasty in Golden State it took KD joining a 73 and 9 team. That's how we ended up with a team being significantly better than the rest and unable to be stopped hence becoming a dynasty. So unless another team like that comes around we aint getting another one.

      @@geordiejones5618I’m surprised Kobe held it together as long as he did, personally. Forget the known weight problem and laziness, can you imagine being Kobe, having the ability to learn in a single offseason how to shoot a jump shot with a hand literally in your face, and here’s Shaq struggling to make half the shots he took from the free throw line with no one in front of him? Season after season? Had to be maddening.

      @@johndavis9321that and if anything the centers of West in Shaq's Lakers era was even worse than the East. Wallace, Mutombo and Mourning were in the East, so Shaq only had to deal with them 6 games a year. In the West, after Shaq there was AARP Robinson, the Divac, then 11 mostly stiffs. Yao Ming became the 4rh best in the conference upon draft selection. Raaf LaFrentz was 2nd to Shaq in scoring one year among conference centers. raef friggin LaFrentz

    Toronto in 2020 was legit the last time a team could have gone back to back smh.
    Edit: Also a “dynasty” is winning 3 or more championships in a 10 year span from your first. So let’s not write off the Nuggets as a potential dynasty just yet

  • @CarnageMastodon
    @CarnageMastodon 4 месяца назад

    My man, dynasties are not part of the past, but, Nuggets are a bad example for a dynasty. That is a team of Jokic+overpaid streaky roleplayers. Take Jokic off, they don't make the playoffs. There is a reason why any person traded off of Denver never hit their expectations as when they were playing with Jokic. I like the style they play, and it pains me to say this, but the truth is the truth. Timberwolves are much more stacked compared to the Nuggs, and people expecting Nuggs to win, just shows how much Jokic impacts the game.

    I really want it to be the case, I hated Cavs vs Warriors for 4 years in a row, and before that just watching the Spurs and Lakers own everyone and before that the Bulls. Just getting some variety is amazing Mavs or T-Wolves who ever comes out of the west I hope they win it all.
