Port Adelaide 17.10.112 (Goals: Westhoff 4, Ebert 3, Boak 2, Rodan 2, Banner, Gray, Lobbe, Motlop, Salopek, Schulz) defeated Melbourne 15.14.104 (Goals: Green 2, Jones 2, Martin 2, McKenzie 2, Bate, Fitzpatrick, Howe, Jamar, Jetta, Morton, Jack Trengove). The first ever AFL match at Adelaide Oval was played that day. It definitely had an influence on Port Adelaide winning the match and more importantly avoiding the wooden spoon with that win. Despite that it was statistically Port Adelaide's worst ever season in footy since they were formed as a footy club in 1870, throughout their 141 years in the SANFL & the AFL to that point. Port Adelaide won 3 games & lost 19 games in 2011.
