"new christianity" is why america doesn't practice slavery anymore, a practice that Jesus and the Bible clearly support. Picking and choosing is part of the process. Christians will continue to pick and choose fewer and fewer parts of the Bible in order to keep up with our evolving morality.
@ts4gv thats because Christianity already had so many enemies and the like to fight against lol, one example is when Israel fought against the Philistines. Nowadays however wars are fairly uncommon and now Christianity is a religion spread across the world and not just in a single country. Slave owners are also not to harm or abuse slaves in the Bible.
@@singNsong-gc9kt last sentence literally isn't true. You're not allowed to strike your slaves so hard that that they die immediately. If they survive a day or two, you're fine, for "a man's slave is his money". the New Testament doesn't amend this. It tells slaveowners to do what is right and just, and since God's word is "right and just", as long as you follow the pathetically weak Old Testament restrictions you're fine. The Bible was actively used to justify the slave trade for centuries. They were interpreting it correctly. (there's more restrictions on enslaving your fellow Israelites, but as long as your slaves come from the nations around you, you can mistreat them horribly and never release them. You keep their children too.)
Amen, we cannot negotiate the truth. Whats there is there weather we like it or not. Embrace the truth, Jesus gives us the best rules because Jesus loves us and wants to be with us. Jesus is a loving king.
Revisions are essential. The Bible explicitly endorses slavery. Jesus never condemned the practice. Also the story of Jesus saving the woman from being stoned wasn't in the original Gospels, that was added later. So if you ignore revisions, all of the brutal Old Testament punishments for harmless acts we all do on a daily basis still stand. He just described the history of Christianity. The OG christians were the gnostics, and that has been renegotiated over and over through history until you have what you have today. The books you have in the Bible today were negotiated on more than once. Books were kept out that didn't seem to follow the desired concept. Most Christians are unaware that the apocrypha was dropped from the bible in 1885. That's a whole collection of books. My mother was a church hopper when I was growing up and each denomination negotiated on what was acceptable, each one different from the next.
Precisely. Take the negotiation out of Christianity and Christianity itself will disappear. There are 4 different versions of the same story - that is, the gospels. They can contradict each other. People apply their preferred meaning to these contradictions. This person doesn't seem to know the Bible well enough to be making these claims - or perhaps he knows that his audience won't be able to tell.
Casually ignoring the Catholic, eastern and oriental churches. We have the deuterocanonicals thank you so much for your concern, though. But it's about time you realise that Christianity is way more than protestantism.
And no the original Christians were not the gnostics. In fact gnosticism is not one group but many different groups that believed different things. What made them similar is their belief in a secret knowledge and how you get to heaven through this gnosis. If the original christians were gnostics, then who were those that were able to preach against them. There were always people who said that gnosticism was heresy and taught the orthodox path. Gnostic groups went extinct and others popped out. But Christianity isn't Gnostic and would never be.
And yes the books were negotiated. That's a good thing. At least we know that it isn't just a random fanfic that we're taking as truth. The Bible didn’t fall out of the sky. Different books of scripture were written by different people and at different points in time. So it was left to the councils to decide what was divinely inspired and what wasn't. If we accepted everything then we'll be accepting the words of one rando who never even met Jesus or his apostles personally as truth. What would be stopping me from writing anything and saying cause it's written it has to be truth.
@@sparksfly6149you mean Mathew, Mark, Luke and John? So many people met him and so they had their bit to write. Did you just want us to choose only one of the synoptic gospels? And no they don't contradict each other. Simple things could be different like the chronology of events but the underlying message is the same. Mind you these were written by people long after the event had happened. If 4 people witness an event and you ask them years after to recall what had happened. Of course you'd notice some slight differences. The authors of the synoptic gospels did a very good job. It is still nearly identical and they don't contradict each other.
Catholic Church did that at the beginning. Then others did the same thing. Episcopals took out the meat. Protestants said ‘more wine’. Jehovahs witnesses took away the wine and the Mormons wrote a new cookbook. A true follower of Christ is left with bread and water. Love God and love each other.
This is a serious point of contention for me. I walk with God, I always have. Even when I was lost in the dark, Jesus was there with me, though I couldn't see him. The scripture means nothing to me. It was written by men, though they wrote the words of God, they were still men and their words could never fully encompass the divinity which is God. None can truly know Him until they stand before Him in judgement. Whether you follow the scripture or not, you are never outside of God's light. You will always have a part of yourself who yearns to be with Him. The scripture, the church, the path God gave us can help to lessen that yearning but, if you close yourself off from what God is doing in your life, if you say I've learned all the rites and I do all the things my church says so that's good enough, you haven't learned the most important lesson which is that God, above all else, must be your way. Your relationship, your personal relationship must come before all else. Maybe the church changes, maybe we interpret the teaching different, maybe we stray to another school of thought, none of that matters, as long as we open our hearts and our minds to God and what He's doing in our life today. Someone said to me "If the church didn't exist, if the whole world stood against you, if everyone denied God, would you?". I say No, I will believe in my heart of hearts though everyone else is against me. And for that, the scripture means nothing. Religion and belief can change, the world can change but, God is permanent in my life and the life of all of us. There is no need for shaming and division. There is no bad christian as long as they live their life for God, for only He can judge us.

Isn't that exactly what people do when they reinterpret scripture though? The way that people interpret scripture now provides teaching drastically different to what was understood in the early years of the Church.
@@user-or4ut2qi3q there is a difference between interpretation and meaning. @@appleboyapostrophe yeah I agree, two people with the same words will each extract a different meaning. This is because we are fallible interpreters, we misunderstand scripture. Take for instance the fact that they refused to translate the word tyrannical or any of its other forms because they didnt want people calling him tyrannical. but everyone is so certain in the specificities of the bible now a days that they refuse to think that perhaps some of the ideas may not be exactly what was in fact preached.
@@senorbit2868 King James... He literally refused to translate the word tyrant into his version because he didn't want people comparing him to a tyrant.
The problem isn't the writing/phonetics of the scriptures. The problem is the misinterpretation of the scriptures. God's word has been transliterated meaning made understandable for other languages.
We're already there. Paul was a preacher. He was an apostle. He was not Jesus. And yet we treat his words as if he was. Moreover, every church and leadership since Paul has also gone through the same thing. Every council and every individual who policed the bible and said 'this is right' and 'this is not'. We do not have the full truth. We have a translation of a translation. In order to know Jesus and know God, we first have to examine ourselves, our lives, and what we're being told. It's a lifelong mission. It doesn't end when we get saved.
And the ignorance about the Christian canon is alarming. They didn’t add or remove books from the Bible. The Bible didn’t even exist. But you can't expect every single thing that was written to make it into the canon. There were criteria for books to make it into the canon. If a book didn't fit it, then it wasn't part. Like some books were popular in some regions but not in others. Others were not written by their supposed authors. So it's not cherrypicking. There was no Bible to begin with. If they just accepted any book, then we'll accept the words of a complete rando who never even met Jesus or any of the apostles as truth. The Bible didn’t fall out of the sky. It was left to councils who by the power of the Holy Spirit, formed the canon.

Truly fundamentalist Christianity would look a lot like fundamentalist Islam (or worse).

He just described the Protestant Reformation
BROOO I THOUGHT HE WAS A COMEDIAN AND I GOT SO CONFUSED 😭😭
Because you're not a Christian
I thought this was a standup and the punchline was ramen cup noodles
That'd be the best punchline damn!
As long as u ain't hateful to anyone, then believe in what u want
Why is hate bad? Is it because humans came up with it? I think it’s because devil took something that God has created and twisted it. Another question. It seems like you don’t believe in God. Why?

The holy scriptures cannot be negotiated by man, ever.
Isn't that exactly what people do when they reinterpret scripture though?
The way that people interpret scripture now provides teaching drastically different to what was understood in the early years of the Church.
@@user-or4ut2qi3q there is a difference between interpretation and meaning. While the words may be altered and changed to provide a way of understanding, the message of the Bible is still the same and cannot be changed or negotiated by man. @@appleboyapostrophe yeah I agree, two people with the same words will each extract a different meaning.

Yeah crazy how scriptures have been changed thousands of times over thousands of years but the one we have now is definitely perfectly accurate.
What do you mean by that and who changed it ?😮
@@senorbit2868 many people changed it over time translations have never been perfect and the oldest bible we have probably wasn't the first bible or even the thousandth. its been hand copied so many times that it could very easily be missing crucial words or phrases or ideas. The king james bible for instance has dozens of biasd mistranslations. Take for instance the fact that they refused to translate the word tyrannical or any of its other forms because they didnt want people calling him tyrannical. but everyone is so certain in the specificities of the bible now a days that they refuse to think that perhaps some of the ideas may not be exactly what was in fact preached.
@runningn2life818 appreciate your expertise on this subject matter, but I asked a very specific question, "WHO changed it ?".
Brilliantly put. No need to compromise the truth! And the example made so much sense ! 💗
No one is saying he is but for you to also disredard the apostles is just crazy. There's nothing paul says that's against what Jesus says.

If we can't negotiate the holy scriptures why are you wearing clothes that are made from more than one fabric after all the bible clearly says "Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material" Leviticus 19:19
There's a difference between the old covenant and the new covenant. OMG! God bless you! This is what I’m scared for with this generation. No wonder Christ asked if He would find Faith on this earth when He returns (Luke 18:8)? It’s not that people won’t still go to church, it’s that the whole religion would have been corrupted. As followers of Christ, we need to watch and pray so we don’t compromise on our Faith. That's a really good message. I wish people would take it more seriously. Jesus said not a single letter of the law will pass away, but mostly we ignore dietary law. He also said he says and does nothing of his own will but that of the One who sent him, but then we say they are the same individual.
I was Christian, and in the process of trying my best to be a better Christian, last year I became Muslim after reading the Bible and Quran. The word of God cannot be corrupted 🙏🏽
Thank you! Amen!
“Creating a Christianity that is totally unrecognizable”. Good. Christianity has changed so much within the church or the past few hundred years that it existed. Change is growth and should be welcomed.
christianity have been doing that for years, it's kinda the reason for many of the violent conflicts in the western world.
