Oh man, that's heavy. You gotta be like a ghost, never even give them a chance. If there's people in local, or you get snooped out, set up shop for the day in an alternative space. That was one thing that took me a while to learn, have multiple jobs for your activities in high, low, and null, that way if something is going on, you are on the other side of the galaxy. You might not be able to fight them off, but denying them a kill, or getting away is a win.
Another thing is the unscanned anomalies, they are very easy for someone to direction scan you and see where you are, identify you etc. All they have to do is look for wrecks, then see the ship you're flying (the more expensive and bigger the easier target you are), and they can warp right too you. It's not always feasible, but if you do the scanned anomalies you have to prove down, they would have to prove you down too, so you can then 360 degree scan waiting to see proves closing in on you and that's an early warning. But if you're in null undocked, ratting, with people in local you don't know, you're asking for the attention - which is a good wait to bait and counter act groups like that with enough people and firepower.
If you are standing still next to your mtu, sentry drones might be a good idea. You will save on flight time and you can pick them up fast if you need to leave in a hurry
+1 to the people who recommended the Ishtar or putting an MJD on ratting BCs or BSs. In Serpentis space I can make 30m a tick on average running Havens or Sanctums, the ship+fit is around 200m and can easily tank anything that doesn't involve being webbed while putting out 700dps. Plus it has drone tracking bonuses to where you can put a single heavy drone on a frigate / destroyer / BC rat and it'll shred it within 30 seconds. Super quick wave clearing!
You should use a MJD, being cap stable isn't as important when your 100kms away and not much dps pressure is on you. You should also use sentries, the travel of the heavies adds up. If they do get to close you scoop your sentries and MJD away. It also makes you harder to catch because your 100 km off the spawn. One last thing you should also expand local so you can see everyone.
The closest the rats ever get is within 30KM, but with the shields running, I’m never in any day, the lowest my shields have fell is around 50-60% Right now, it’s working for me, so I won’t be changing it until I need to. That could be viable for the system I was in, but two systems over there is on average around 400 people at any given time, I got use to the scrolling then, so it’s just something I’m use to and I have my UI sitting the way I want it.
@@Expedishun I would argue the dead rattlesnake is proof that it's not working for you. How ratters beat hunters is by not getting caught, once your tackled your playing their game. Remember that not every Pirate or Null sec people wanna lose their ship either so just take a chance and FIGHT HARD. Get the smaller ship down fast first then finish the next weak guy. Then look at your damage on the final big guy and switch to their weakness. GO to town on them all you got.

@@Expedishun Yeah I was also going to mention this. the high BRM is tempting, but having to constantly sift through 400 people in local is a nightmare. Also, as others have said, you can change your local window to just show names and the blue/neut/red icon next to them to show more at once. I also want to add to that to say, always, always, always have your Local window expanded high enough you can see to the bottom-most people with room to spare. Lost 2 Paladins in a week thanks to Blops. You just have to make it harder for them to find / catch you and of course watch that local. ( they usually log off manticores in systems so intel might be useless ) Just be present and not semi afk and you can get out.
@@Expedishun I'm training for Dreads now. They can't drop with 7 people on a Dread. But yeah, I kinda was mad about the first Paladin I lost, it was almost 3bil.

100% bud, but due to the majority of my early game being focused around mining, I haven't had a lot of skills in combat ships up until recently. So, I'm still a bit away from Ishtar. ok, not sure why youtube suggested this vid to me and i only skipped through it for maybe 2-3 min tbh but there are so many issues with your overview, local, missing intel chan etc. that i think you should talk to someone who actually knows his way around the space you live i'm not sure your corp members are the place to go there from the limited feedback i got from what i've seen in this vid.
