There are things about this game that are accurate in ways I don’t even know how they achieved. Things like Ødegaard levelling up in winter, former players always scoring against you, how often Nunez hits the woodwork, having random off days that make no sense, seeing Spurs go out to EFL sides in the cup and beating a side 7-0 when they hit you for 4 only a few rounds ago.
I play on world class AI and the difficulty of matches is so random but I always end up with a realistic points tally. The goal difference goes insane because of games like that Everton one where you’d expect to score around 3 and it ended up being 7 because Isak scored 4 goals.
That’s likely what would happen if you put a top class striker in Arsenal’s current team. No fewer off days but winning the games we would’ve won anyway by greater margins and less matches where we don’t get the result our performance deserves. Games like West Ham, Fulham, Liverpool in the cup, both vs Villa and even the NLD at home last season, we could’ve scored 3 or 4 in all of them.
Dropping so many points last season by not taking our chances and still getting a total that’s usually enough to win the league suggests we’re only one step away, which is to make sure results reflect performances. There are 114 points available in a season and in 23/24, I’d say we lost 8-10 from being outplayed. I’m not saying we’d get 104 points with a striker like Isak but of all the results that meant we finished on 89 rather than 104, we’d only need to win one or two of them to win the league.
