Thank you so much for this video on portfolios. I've started researching on fashion schools abroad and I know that a really great fashion portfolio is a must. I know that this is about fashion portfolio if you wanna work for a company, but still I think it quite helpful and insightful because everything you said about finding balance between "creating beautiful things" and "making things that sell" is true. I wanna be that kind of designer, not just a creative designer but a smart designer as well. I hope you'll continue to make such wonderful videos. Thank you again! :)
Absolutely right and I feel like it's true for really anything. I can cook or bake the niciest meals when I i need to get creative with only few items in the cupboard and fridge.
Zoe Im a designer recently graduated from FIT with a bachelor's to excel my design career and Ive interned at places like Oscar De La Renta and currently at Vince Camuto dresses full time hourly but need a salaried position with benefits so currently interviewing like crazy. Im applying all over the board but most of my experience is high end/luxury rtw and evening wear. I have a student made portfolio but want a really beautiful professional portfolio a head designer or design director would use but the only reference I have seen are student portfolios. Can you explain whats in a nonstudent portfolio of someone who has been in the industry? What do they show sketches or real garments, or maybe combo? I would love to see layouts of design director down to assistant design! Btw your videos are amazing I love your work 💕💕💕

I just started my portfolio since I graduated design school....it was hard to focus on what to design out of school so I've just decided to sketch out different garment groups separately and then I'm going to also do some prints/colorways....Just going to overload my portfolio just so I can have those ready to send off when I'm ready to send out resumes

I don't know much about textile design portfolios. I did see a few. What I love most is seeing the textile applied to objects, so we can really see the scale of the pattern or texture and easily imagine the overall look. Objects can be furniture, tote bags, clothes, rugs, etc.

Like I'm already planning want I want to do after highschool and I'm planning on going to a school for fashion. My mom is very intrigued and happy that I'm planning Everything out at my age. Hi Zoe. I sat and took notes while watching this. I do have a question. Usually when You apply for a job using them your resume and attach to that resume is a link to your online portfolio . You said only show 4 groupings for the interview. But in terms of the online portfolio that shows all your work before you get an interview should you have all of your groupings on that online portfolio?
What’s your advice regarding textile design for fashion specifically, how do I show in my portfolio that I want to be involved in the textile DESIGN and not just be a “maker” for them if that makes sense?
Show illustrations of how your textiles designs are used in clothes. You don't have to go crazy, lay out your designs on some simple dresses and tops etc so people can visualize your designs on clothes easily.

I don't think I am doing it right.. please if you could help with this.. if there is already a video I have missed or if I could do a short one.. or some link.. or anything.. would save a life.. :p love you.. thank you... Hi zoe I applied to the istanbul technical university fashion design program and they wanted me to add 6-10 free designs that made by me okay I made this. And ın the ınterview the prof. Cevza candan said me that: ummm yetkin I don't like your designs because they are not in one theme. Girllll I didn not expect that but they do actually

Yeah, just leave everything up on your online portfolio--they'll just look at the project that look appealing to them.

If you want to go to fashion school, look up the portfolio requirements for the schools you're interested in and practice those skills/projects.

Pantone has announced their color forecasting for next year so you should google that.

Majority of flats must be digital. You must add swatches of actual fabric to your projects.
