In this video I go over different ways the Lincoln Electric 90i FC welder is better and upgraded from the Century FC90 which I owned and reviewed several times. It was a fantastic little welder and this machine only gets better. I weld some 1/8" plate with the Lincoln Innershield .035 flux core wire.
I’m sold! I’m buying one for sure. Mostly need it for body work and automotive. At least I know if I need to do more robust jobs I won’t have to worry. Thank you for taking you time to make this review. 🤙🏽
How are you liking it so far? Picked up one today for the same purposes
This little machine is perfect 👌 I recommend it to anyone I have one and is a little beast I did all the chassis on my Silverado I'm happy with the machine
I bought a used one at a online action so far I think I got burned it don't want to weld very good I got it for 150 dollars
I got one those recently only did a few test welds so far, using E71T-11 it is very impressive on 110V It does deliver the 1/4. perfect for small jobs site repairs
Awesome thanks for sharing.
Your weld looks super! I am motivated! Thanks for sharing.
Nice little rig. Pity they didn't make it so it can do stick also.
I'm a farrier and looking at this welder for welding horse shoes they are normally 8-10 mm thick im assuming this will work I normally just braze with my torches but that takes a lot longer
I’m confused why on all these website Lincoln says it will weld up to 1/4 inch but on the chart on the welder it only goes to 1/8 inch
Thanks for the vid, Derek
Excellent day, according to the specification of the machine, it says that it welds up to 1/4 inch, but in the video where you show the table under the cover it only has up to 1/8 inch, which would be the values to weld at 1/4 inch
1/8" single pass, 1/4" multiple passes
You would do at least two passes for 1/4" jobs.
Should say on the chart under the cover. But like they said run multiple beads for added tensile strength.
Lincoln vs forney fc insights both similar price and seemed to have similar features is there a difference or brand he would go with
Does the fc90i hàve a DCEN polarity for the flux core welder, gun polarity negative, and ground positive, or can the polarity be changed inside the machine if needed?
Yes, it comes with the correct polarity to weld flux core. You don’t get the smooth arc, penetration, and clean weld I got welding flux core with a positive gun and negative ground. No way that I know of to change it inside.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects thanks!
Thank You Derek. Now that you have had it for over 11 months. Still sold? Any issues?
To be honest. I haven’t used it a lot. But I still have it and it’s toward the top of the list of the last machine I’d get rid of, of all the machines I have.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects I appreciate the honesty and quick response. :)
Thanks for the review!
Great job showing the basics of the machine.
Thanks!
Anyone know ballpark setting if you want to take a run at 1/4 inch with the 90i FC with .035 wire?
Max her out
well done.
$279, they are out of their minds..........TBH I am kinda surprised they are even trying to bother with this end of the market since Harbor Freight and Yeswelder have the budget guys on taken care of.....plus it seemed like they always had a gap between the $200 fc-90 and the $800+ machines.
It’s maybe $60 more than the cheaper FC 90 price I see these days? With some better specs and leads? Seems like a fair increase to me. I was also surprised to see this machine come out though. I wouldn’t have expected it.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects Yeah I don't get the point of coming out with this when they already have the FC-90 (unless they are planning on discontinuing it).....JMHO they are not competing. Look at the Yeswelder flux-135, they even give you stick leads to do 135 amp stick if you want.....and its $116 right now. I'm sure the Lincoln is a good machine, just seems like they are going after a market that might not be there.
Yeah and that machine looks pretty much exactly the same as harbor freight's titanium 125.
I've been shopping around you can get the Lincoln easy mig 140 for like 569.00 "on sale '
Project Farm tested a bunch of welders and many don't put out the power they say they do.
will it run off 20 amp breaker and will it welded 1/4" cast iron steel
Yes don't be afraid 😂it is very good 👌 I'm really happy with this machine
I’ve been thinking about getting a little welder but I don’t really understand these little welders very much. I was taught about arc and oxy acetylene welding back in high school. Is this an arc welder?
Technically yes. But should be a lot easier to use than oxy acetylene. The arc melts the metal and you run a bead. Almost like a hot glue gun.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects Oh okay very nice. So do these welders use wire or a stick. I’m sorry for all the questions but I figure you’ll be a good person to ask. And does this welder work using 110 and 220 volt? I’ve seen some on Facebook market place that run on both. Would a welder like yours be better than getting an old school arc welder? I’m guessing an old arc welder won’t be good for thinner steel. It’s been a while man haha. I learned how to weld back in ‘87. I never learned to MIG or TIG weld just ARC and oxygen acetylene
@@wyattsdad8561 flux core wire, so its like a wire fed stick welder, you get slag just like stick.
@@yurimodin7333 okay thanks man. One more question, is the wire expensive?
@@wyattsdad8561 not too bad, usually about $18-$22 for a 2Lb roll (goes a long way).....solid mig wire is about half that price but you need shielding gas for that so it all costs about the same.
How did you like this one compared to the forney 140 fc?
I have the Forney 140MP. MP being multi process. so it runs stick, TIG and MiG/fx. Both are fine machines. I’d buy either one again.
Would have been nice for you to describe how to load the wire , how to put the wheel for correct wire size . Instead of the fast forward with no descriptions... as the manual doesn't show that either
I have other videos showing that, in general terms, with flux core welders.
Nice review. What size generator would you need to run this welder?
I usually think the bottom end generator for running a welder is something that produces at least 7000 runnning watts.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects Yeah I was thinking something along those lines. They really do take a lot of juice to run. Thanks for replying.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjectsI use a 3500 regularly
Derek, I’ve a few photos of a handle i made for the c-90. It’s much better for moving the welder around. How can I get you the photos?
Do you have Instagram? You can find me on there and send them, or email me through the email address on the “about” page of my channel.
Hugh Danaher, I would be interested in seeing the handle you made, because I have both the Century FC 90 and the HF Titanium 125 flux core welder and would like to add a handle to them 🤔 thanks
@@shermanyoung8185 i put a link in Derick’s comment string
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects I put up images on my website, but every time I post the link the comment gets deleted. It seems that fremontica plus a suffix triggers the algorithm. Net result is this cryptic message which you’ll need to figure out.
You put it in this videos comment section? You can email it to me?
To run this machine what breaker you need to get?
I’d have a dedicated 20 AMP circuit.
What’s the biggest spool of wire will it hold
2lb spools
So you went over the stuff covered on ads. What about polarity? Can you swap polarity on it or does it require cutting and splicing wires to change polarity between the ground clamp and the wire nozzle? Looking for one that I can swap polarity easily.
I didn’t need to cover what you’re asking for because it is a flux core only machine. There is no reason whatsoever to change polarity because flux core runs on DCEN.
Next time a machine trips that breaker take time to find out what other lights or outlets are on that circuit and don't run those things while welding on that outlet. If that wasn't the problem then you have an electrical problem (bad breaker, bad wire, bad connection, wrong wire, wrong breaker etc...)
Does this need to pit hooked up to q tank ? I know nothing about welding but I'm trying to find something where I can just do small repairs around the house. Any help is appreciated
why do you say it maxes out at 120 amps when it is advertised as 90 amps right on the can? and even then they tell you you need aa 20 amp circuit to get that 90 amps.
So it would work good plugged into a 30 amp generator outlet fixing fence in a field!?
Bought this roughly a year ago and ended up working away from home. Only used it a few times and the rest of the time has sat in the shop. Now the wheel turns sporadically. Gonna take it back, looking at buying the yeswelder 160A off amazon.
All in all, when it was working properly, it worked pretty decent for what it is. I'm probably just biased and want gas.
Nothing wrong with running flux-core. In fact, if welding outside, or on slightly dirty metal, FC welds much better than MIG with gas. I have the Century Fc-90, and if anything it welds very hot and welds 1/4" steel with .035 Lincoln FC wire, easily. Needs a 20 amp breaker to run at maximum amps. I have a similar 140 amp Forney machine that always pops the breaker when welding anything over 1/8" which is very annoying, especially since it is also running the smaller .030 wire.
Sorry if this is a dumb question but can you stack beads with this machine?
yes but you have to be sure to clean the flux in between each pass
Porque mi maquina no chispea cuando la conecto
Mine splatters like crazy, no matter what. Any help?
Try blue demon wire
What does the i means on FC 90i?
My assumptions is “inverter”.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects Thanks. So, the FC 90 is AC?
It’s DC. 110ac at the wall. DC at the ground and stinger.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects thanks
Hello do you know if this comes with the wire spool and can you put 10 lb spools in it? Great info thank you
need to buy 1 lb Lincoln NR211MP which is right next to the machine at retailers. It does not take 10lb spools,
👍
I got this machine and am having wire feed problems. It doesn't travel consistently
wear a respirator or weld outside.
great looking work though.
prolly would work even better with an .030 wire
just curious why would you think that?
@@PablosOutdoorProjects cause your not using a machine like that to weld plate steel or large amounts of welding. .030 works fine for 1/8 or less steel and you don't need to crank up the machine to get a good weld.
the unit has procedures and drive roll for Lincoln NR211MP 0.030" or 0.035"@@EricWebster
Im an .030 wire enthusiast myself
👍👍👍👍👍👍🙋♂️
Bro, please buy a fan and try to find an angle where your head isn't directly above the plumes of smoke 😷
Lung disease sucks. Get protection, young man.
So no gas welding 🤦🏻♂️. No good
They have an exact version of this that runs MIG with a gas hook up and solenoid.
@@DereksWorkshopAndProjects I just bought this machine but I see that it is not for gas welding. I wanted it for my shop I think I made a wroung purchase
Excellent day, according to the specification of the machine, it says that it welds up to 1/4 inch, but in the video where you show the table under the cover it only has up to 1/8 inch, which would be the values to weld at 1/ 4 inch and can weld up to 3/8 inch
1/8" single pass, up to 1/4" with multiple passes
