Thank u bruh, cuz when I told a mtf Ian never pump gas before they wanna laugh and do the most instead of jus showin me the right way smh
I’m glad the video was helpful! Zero shame. We all did it for the first time at some point.

its one of those things that you wont get taught unless you reach out to someone for help. filing out a tax return is another example of just that

Great job trying something new and figuring things out!
i just got my license and this video took away all anxiety i had of getting gas by myself 😭

I just got my license and this was easy to understand thanks
Awesome! Congrats on your license, and I’m glad the video was helpful!
If you are in Jersey, you definitely wouldn't know how to fill gas unless you have travelled outside of Jersey. This was very helpful, thank you!
So true!
When do you choose the amount of gas you want?
@@sylvianapier7800 if you pay at the pump with a credit or debit card, you do not have to choose how much before you start pumping . You just start pumping it, and continue to pump it until you choose to stop. You can watch the counter on the pump and manually stop at a desired dollar amount. Or you can just keep pumping until it’s full and stops on its own, and you will pay for however much you pumped.
If you pre-pay inside the store, you will need to choose how much money you want to pay. Then the pump will automatically stop when it reaches that dollar amount that you prepaid. If you pre-pay for more than you used, you can go back in and get a refund for the extra.
Thank you
Thank you. It's been a long while since I last drove and I have anxiety issues about all of it now. I know it's silly but I feel really stupid. This IS really helpful. THANK GOD for RUclips and nice people who make useful videos.
It’s not silly. Glad the video was helpful!
I’ve been driving for a bit now (2 years) and have never personally filled up anywhere, and I still think it’s crazy that it doesn’t seem like they teach how to fill up the gas tank at gas stations. It’s something everyone will inevitably have to do if you are driving yourself around, and knowing about the different types of gas and the basics of a how-to video is just silly in my opinion. That’s why it’s great to have concise and helpful videos like this!
Glad it was helpful!

Very good video. Thanks
Especially for people who come from countries where there is no self gas fill. Thousands of workers come from such countries to the US to work . To fill the gas at the pump is a stress . Your video was helpful.
That’s a very good point that I did not consider! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this, I recently got my first car. I’m still surviving off the gas from the dealership and dreading getting my own gas. This was very informative.
Awesome! Congrats on your new car!
First time i pumped gas, i kept holding the nozzle and gas went all over my shoes and bottom of my pants (and the ground of course)😬 my mom told me to do it because i was learning how to drive at the time so then she went into the store and i had no idea what to do. Of course its been some time after that but i usually use our electric car. So thanks for this video! Super helpful and taught me some things i didnt know. 👍😁 Ive been beginning to drive longer distances and i have to use the gas car for that, not the electric, so learning how to pump gas is mandatory 🤕
That will be a funny story someday. Glad the video was helpful!

I never knew about that gas cap holder after you twist it out 🤣 Glad I watched thank you!!
Most vehicles have a way to store the cap. But, letting it hang from the lanyard works just fine.
Good one coming from a gas station owner.

how many people here are from new jersey? 🙋🏽♀️
It used to be illegal on Oregon as well. When I was in the army, we got a couple guys from Oregon who had to pump gas for the first time.
🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️
From philippines we have gasboys, then I migrated to US NJ they have gasboy. Now im in albany, helllpppp!!!!!
Hi just wanna ask. I'm a new driver so please be patient with my dmb question 😅
1. So I don't need to put in how much I need? It will automatically just choose, say $20, for one pump?
2. What if I don't want a full tank. say, I just want $10. Do i hold it and stop pumping once it reaches $10?
Thank you so much. xoxo
No problem!
IF YOU PAY AT THE PUMP WITH A CARD AND DO NOT GO INSIDE TO PAY:
If you hold the handle with your hand, or use the kickstand to hold, the handle, it will automatically stop pumping when your tank is full.
You don’t have to fill it all the way up. If you want to pump a specific amount of money ($10), you will have to watch the meter and manually stop pumping when you reach the desired amount of money.
IF YOU PREPAY INSIDE THE BUILDING WITH CASH OR CARD:
To pay with cash, you will usually have to go inside and pay the cashier first to activate the pump.
If you want to fill up your tank, this will be tricky, because you don’t know exactly how much money it will cost to fill up your tank. But you will have to choose an amount of money to pay. For example, let’s choose $10.
When you go outside to the pump and start pumping gas, it will automatically turn off at $10 (or whatever amount you choose to pre pay inside).
They require pre-pay inside when using cash, because they don’t want people to fill up their tank with gas and leave without paying.
I hope that helps! If you have any other questions, just let me know!
I am 30 years old and Never learn how to pump my own gas because I am from Jersey and Now I just moved to Maryland and have to learn. Still nervous and I am most likely going to ask for help using I am from Jersey. Maybe by the time I need to get gas my dad would be with me to guide me 😅
Cool! I used your video with my ESL students. Thank you!
Wonderful! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this, always got weird looks for saying I wasn’t sure how to do it

You forgot to mention. Always look around before you get out. Many people are carjacked and robbed at stations now days. Have all doors locked no valuables in view. Check pump for skimmer. Always get a receipt in case gas is bad.
For sure. And don’t do it at 2 AM either.
The skimmer might be above the heads of newbies and outside the scope of the video.
Thanks, this helped! 👍
Glad it helped!
You didn't mention about looking around for loitering. It's smart to drive around the gas station lot. Could be car jackers.
For sure. And never go at 2 AM. Daylight hours only.
very helpful and clear thank you very much

@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Hey, all jokes to the side, there are a great many people who do not know how to do a seemingly simple task such as filling up their tanks with gas -- because they have never been shown how. Or for New Jersey drivers. We're not allowed to pump our own gas. I moved to PA and I'm terrified. LOL
I had some friends in Oregon who also experienced this. It was illegal to pump your own gas there too.
From the UK so might be a simply answered question. If I pre pay $100 but only end up using $70, do I go back in to get my change?
If you prepay with a card, the difference will go back into the card.
If you prepay with cash, you can go back inside and get the difference back in cash.
well, today I learn something new that in the US, almost all gas pump got 1 nozzle and you had to choose by pushing the button/type of gas u need...
while at where I live, we got multiple nozzles for different type of gas.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing!
Great stuff. Thanks a lot

You said i have to wait for the click till its full? But if i dont want to fuel my car to the fullest, just for example 3 liters? How can i stop it ?
You can stop pumping gasoline any time you want to without filling it all the way up. The pump will show the amount pumped and the cost as you pump. When you reach the desired amount, you can stop pumping.
If you are holding the handle lever with your hand to pump, just let go of the lever and it will stop pumping.
If you are using the little kickstand to hold the lever so it will pump without holding it with your hand, squeeze the lever to release the kickstand, then let go of the lever to stop pumping.
Thank you it was super helpful.
So happy it helped!
How about how to you recover from sticker shock?
lol.
What buttons to press in case one wants a specific number of litres only eg 20 litres ?
You can watch the display on the pump, which will show the accumulated volume and cost as you pump, and stop pumping when it reaches a desire amount.
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial is there not a keypad to type in the desired amount ? Fuel is expensive in most parts of the world and we just may need the correct volume
you are great
Glad it was helpful!
Can you prepaid at the pump?
@@yobruh6029
Normally, you swipe your card at the pump to activate the pump. Then when you are done pumping gas, you will automatically be charged for the amount of gas you used.
To prepay before you pump gas, typically no, you can’t prepay at the pump . You have to go inside and pay first, then they will activate the pump for you to use it.
Sometimes there is an intercom at the pump and you can ask them to turn the pump on for you, then you go in and pay after you are done pumping gas. But, that is pretty rare. I haven’t seen that for several years.
Or, there may be a little piece of chrome trim that you have to twist so the left tail light will hinge downward exposing the fill cap.
Or a license plate that folds down with the gas cap behind it.
93 is premium in USA?
Sure is! I’m pumping gas right now, Lol!
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial in Europe we have 98 n stuff
@@MESSY-AF Europe is rated different...DUH
Does my car have to be on or off? Or does it mot matter
It should be off. There will probably be signs on the pump saying to turn off your vehicle.
You're 100 Percent going to heaven.
Glad it was helpful!
I ride a motorized bicycle, I can ask for $1 gas right?
Yes you can!
Been driving for going on 3 years now, and the pump would always click and shut off every little while. I've always felt like an idiot with people around, and after filling up today I was like, "Fuck it! I need to look this up!" I've come to the conclusion that I'll just use the little kickstand to fill up the tank since I usually do anyway, lol.
I learned how to drive in the Middle East and we all get our cars fueled by workers at the gas stations so I’ve never done it. If I go back to the US I won’t know how to do it so that’s why I’m here 😂
Nice!
but if i’m paying with cash then how do i know how much gas i’ll need?
@@kellycroissant8015 that makes it more tricky for sure. You will have to do some basic math. If you have a 10 gallon tank for example, and it’s empty, you will need about 10 gallons to fill it up. If gas is three dollars per gallon, for example, then it will cost about $30 to fill it up.
If you pre-pay too much in cash, you can get a refund for what you didn’t use after you’re done pumping.
If you did not pre pay enough cash to fill it all the way up, the pump will automatically shut off at the dollar amount you prepaid.
If you’re not sure, you could just put $10 or $20 in it, and that will get you around for a while.
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Thank you for answering!!
I just got my first car and appreciate your help!! 🙏😭
@@kellycroissant8015 no problem! Awesome, congrats and enjoy!
Hello, question!! When I pump gas to my car, which is Honda pilot 2017 , I insert the nozzle in the port (it doesn’t have cap ) start pumping and after few seconds the nozzle stop and I have to pump again ,stop and pump again until I got full tank , I don’t know if I am doing it wrong or it the car ???
This is not normal, but can happen if there is a problem with the system. There is a blockage somewhere that is causing it to stop pumping before the gas tank is full. Usually a vent valve or charcoal canister.
Until you fix the problem with your system, you will have to pump it very slowly, and just keep squeezing more in until your gas tank is full.
I heard a guy say it keeps locking
What if I want to pay in cash?
That’s no problem. You will have to go inside and pay.
Most places will require you to go inside and pre pay. First park at the empty pump. It will have a number on it somewhere. Go inside and tell them what pump number you want to pre pay for. You will have to decide how much you want to spend on gas ahead of time and pay that amount. Let’s use $20 for example. Pay $20 in cash, then go back out to your vehicle and start pumping gas. The pump will automatically shut off when it reaches $20. Then you just put the pump away and leave.
Some places will turn on the pump and let you fill up without prepaying, then you go inside after you’re done pumping gas and pay for the amount of gas that you pumped.
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial ok thank you 🙏
Shut off car while refueling?
Yes.
There will probably be stickers on the pump saying to turn off the vehicle while fueling.
So it charges your card afterwards?
That’s correct. It authorizes your card before you start pumping to make sure you have enough money to pay, and it actually charges your card when you’re done pumping and put the nozzle back on the pump.
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Thanks for the clarification.
And where is the quantity specified? How much gasoline am i filling here ?
The gallons and cost are shown on the display of the gas pump as you pump the gasoline. They start at zero will increase as you continue to pump.
You can monitor it and stop pumping any time if you reach a desired dollar amount or number of gallons. You don’t have to fill it all the way.
The total quantity of gasoline that will be required to fill the gas tank all the way up is unknown. You can look up your vehicle’s specifications to see the capacity of your gas tank in gallons for a rough idea.
Let’s say your tank capacity is 10 gallons for example. If you need to fill it completely from empty, it could approach 10 gallons. If you want to add half a tank, it would be roughly 5 gallons. If you want to add a quarter tank, it would be roughly 2.5 gallons.
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial Thank you very much for your time and explanation, Good video
i had this situation where the pump would keep fueling and i couldn't get it to stop it happened but to take it out i had gas splattered all over my clothes what should i do if this situation occurs again
Was the handle on the nozzle still engaged with the little kick stand, and it didn’t automatically shut off when your gas tank was full?
Or was gas still flowing out of the nozzle when the handle was off?
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial i used a credit card i wanted to only put 25 dollars in and i realized i couldn't get it to stop like i could with the other gas pumps
Thanks now I’m a pro😂
Awesome!
surly the higher the octane the better
Nope. Just a waste of money if you don’t have a high-performance engine that requires it. Zero benefit unless it’s required.
When you’re from Jersey 😂😂😂
Why is the lowest grade in my country Singapore 95?
Because they use the RON system, while he's talking about the AKI
AKI 87 = RON 91
91 = 95
93 = 98 respectively
None of these videos explain how to insert the nozzle. Should I put it all the way in? Then gas is not coming through, when I don't insert it all the way in fkn air gets in the gas Chambers or whatever and engine check light comes on. OBD shows small air leak. So how do fuck do I properly insert it?
Push the nozzle all the way in until it stops.
Your vehicle has other issues if the nozzle keeps clicking off before the tank is full, and is causing a check engine light. There is something wrong with the vent/relief valve or filler neck. Something is blocked and not functioning correctly.
Friend of mine wanted to be nice to his brother and filled up his Mercedes CDI 220 with Premium 97…
That vehicle may actually require premium. It’s common for Mercedes to require 91 octane. Check the owners manual. The friend may have gotten it right, lol.
@@HowtoandReviewsOfficial LOL no he got it very wrong, CDI 220 is Diesel!! The car had to be toed and they had to open the engine block. Baby brother never again lent his car to my friend.
@@NicolasOrrico oh, wow! Hopefully he was able to drain and flush everything before there was any damage. Good call never lending to that friend again.

How to know my tank is full? When to stop? If i want to take for example $30 of gas? Video is incomplete
There is a fuel gauge on your dashboard that shows the fuel level. There is an E for empty, and an F for full, and the needle will point somewhere in between showing the current the amount of gas in your tank.
You can add gas anytime you want.l to. Make sure to add more before it reaches empty.
U should emphasize SAFETY for young ppl. NO CELL FONES, NO CAR RUNNING, & REMOVE NOZZLE FROM CAR/INSTALL CAP/CLOSE DOOR. (I know u did cap/etc) but needs emphasized so they don't pull out connected to pump.
