As a Lego veteran, I always cannot help but be bemused by you younger folk discovering 'vintage' Lego. Yes, Legoland was the core 'City' range before the 'City' title came along. You have chosen wisely! And you will find the plastic pieces to be much more sturdy than the new stuff. They even make a different sound when rustling through the piles. I was almost ready to offload ALL of my Vintage Lego (copious amounts) for a one-off sale to an enthusiest, until one day my own enthusiasm was re-united. I happen to own many sets which are now rare and I'm greatful I hung onto to every single piece of it.
Love people who keep their boxes in good condition even after all those years, that stuff was probably treasured by a good kid at some point in time, what a score!
I remember Legoland. My uncle used to buy my son (who is 42 now) everything Legoland for his birthday, holidays, etc. My son was too young so I built a lot of of the kits for him.
Those little Lego systems kits were probably the time in that child's life when they had pocket money - you could be holding the first purchases of their young life! That could be a clue that gives you a ball-park idea about what age they were at the time that they got each set?!
Yup. those sure bring back memories! I still have the first one you showed (black truck with helicopter), the airport, the light and sound police van (STILL WORKS!), and the Shell gas station. I recognize many of the others too as I was probably in the stores bugging my parents for more. Lol. I'm not sure how much each would be worth, but for everything you got, that's one hell of a deal!!!
From someone quite old who recognizes quite a few of these sets. Legoland is the old name for Lego city - These boxes are in very good conditions, as well as the instructions - these are clearly very well looked after. It is very sad they have been sold on like this to the original owner - as people have noted - there is a very upset true owner. You will need to check the following : completeness of course. Are the instructions complete of have missing pages. Are the mini-figures present Are the stickers and printed bricks in the set If you add bricks if the they are missing then you really need to find bricks of the same age, there are differences. These are in amazing condition - you are well lucky. The lego sign set is very valuable - they signs become brittle and snap - so if these are complete they that is amazing - handle with care. You might want to wash them (warm water with UK white wash powder that contains a lot of peroxide as it removes discoloring) , but they look in really good state.
Beatties and Zodiac were both very well known toy shops in Nottingham in the 70s and 80s, I'm sure they had them in other towns too. I have some fond memories of spending time in those shops. You have an absolute treasure chest there Jake. That airport set alone goes for at least £60+ on ebay, car boots have got to be the way forward for max profits :)
This is a dream find! The type of thing you might have got at a car boot many years ago before the AFOL thing went mainstream. I had a fair few of those sets as a kid too. Enjoy!
True but I have found bargain priced Lego at car boot sales over the last 5 years and just as much as I did as a child. The trick like Jake says, is to get there early.
Oh wow, Zodiac toys. Thas a blast from the past, made my morning that has :). Beatties was another good one, they used to do more model type stuff though if I remember rightly.
What an absolute bargain 😱. I recognize quite some of these sets as I had them as a kid (I am from '85), of course all currently in way worser condition and without box (i actually played with my lego ;)). I think many of these are retailing in current condition for 20-100 pounds on bricklink! What a shame you did not pickup the technic sets as well 😉
What a superb haul of Lego!!!!!! I still got all my Lego from a kid between 1979 and 1983 it was mostly Classic Space Lego. Though I had a Technic set and an Lego Electric motor and a general purpose Lego set which had generic pieces but more complex than your 2x4 lego brick but less complex than a Technic set. Lego is apparently one of the most durable man made objects in the world, only succumbing to fire, acid or real extreme force. People say Lego is too expensive. No it's not. You just bought a toy that will certainly outlive you or the person you bought it for. Probably will outlive your children and their children too. Yet still very likely be relevant and compatible to the new stuff of the future.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I had that book with the stickers in the back! Amazing! And I had a set or two with that light and sound feature block. And I had that Shell station set! Incredible haul!
Wow what a brilliant haul. That’s the kits from my childhood in the 80’s. I remember Beatties as well - used to sell all sorts of model kits like Airfix etc…
Wow these are worth a few hundred pounds surely. I owned a few of these as a kid including the airport, and the petrol station. What fond memories have of these sets. Unbelievable!
Very dangerous places. My wife worries what on earth I will bring back form Car Boot sale 🤣🤣 looks like you have uncovered a bargain!! Another enjoyable video 👍😊
Wow!! What luck! I have the firehouse set still and it’s a favorite of mine! Those road signs are very popular with buyers and are not that cheap as a set on Bricklink.
Yeah, this is a huge score. I'll weigh in as somebody that's spent a few thousand collecting vintage Lego over these past few years: These look like they're mostly from the Classic Lego "Town" theme, which don't demand as much money as the more interesting Castle, Space, or Pirate themes, but the fact that they're all in box is pretty major. Looks like the pieces themselves are in mint condition, probably built once and shelved before going back into those boxes. This is easily hundreds of dollars worth of vintage Lego, if not in the four figure territory. Great find!
What a fantastic find, and so cheap. I too would like a follow up video about the sets you decide to keep or sell and how much you get for them. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great videos.
That’s the dream. I recently bought a vintage haul from Facebook marketplace for £40. Had space police, castle theme, m-tron and model team. All with instructions (good few with boxes). Don’t think the seller had any idea of their true worth. Been on the lookout for something similar since, but no luck.
Oh my word! What a find that is! Remember all these sets and had about 70% of them, a particular favourite was the yellow refuse lorry. Don't suppose you'd want to part with that beauty???
Amazing find. Brings back my later days of my youth. I still have the Airport. It alone is worth $75 🇺🇸. I also have the Shell Station at least a $50 🇺🇸
Awesome haul there - I recognise all those sets from my younger days. I've began re-collecting these when and where I can either from Car boots, eBay or Bricklink> Most of the ones you pulled out are worth about £30-£40 pounds, only if you have the original minifigures intact. It's likely the figures may have been sold separately, or taken out by a crafty sibling. The light and sound sets should still work - In fact I have that helicopter set, and still works after I cleaned up the corroded areas with a bit of baking soda, and a cotton bud stick. The Airport Set (if complete) - can get up to £200 in value. I have sold the baseplates (runway) before, and they go for about £10 each. LEGO had a long standing relationship with Shell. Oil/Plastic would obviously mean these two super giants would mingle in similar circles. LEGO famously dissolved it's relationship in the era of "oil spillages", and opted to re-invent the "SHELL" line, with the generic "OCTAN" brand.
Oh - you might be tempted to try and remove the prices from the boxes, try to avoid doing this. They are actually worth more (and more desirable) with the prices still on. As most of those shops are now non-trading, the labels adds a bit of extra nostalgia.
I had that fire station! it's in bits in boxes now, maybe I should try and find all the bits and put it together. Though I don't think that it would quite fit in with my son's Star Wars Lego. lol
great haul there, £40 was a bargin! next time you should go foraging for the most obscure random dvds or vhs's the have a viewing of them, i imagine some of the random crap you'll find will bring much amusement.
Very jealous of your finds - took my first trip to Arminghall a few weeks ago and hardly any Lego to be found! Did manage to get the final Harry Potter CMF I was missing, but it wasn’t as fun!
Absolutely superb boot find. I have still got half of them sets you have all boxed etc & many more. If by chance you still have some sets for sale please let me know.
Worth a lot more than £40. I bought the Lego Space 6927: All-Terrain Vehicle from 1981 without the box in a specialist Lego shop in France a few years ago and it cost £50. The Stunt 'Copter N' Truck is worth around £21 alone. I'll let you find out the rest. i will have a look myself lol. Lego had a contract with Shell Oil from the 1960s until 2014 when Lego refused to sign a new contract due to environmental issues. Lego replaced Shell with Octan, a fictional petroleum company, which had been in the Lego range since 1992. They also use to use Esso and Exxon.
What a bargain. I love finds like this. At £40 these are a good deal. As you say you never know what to expect at a car boot, but I think for £40, these were worth the gamble, especially with the boxes in such a good condition.
As an AFOL I'd of snapped the sellers arm off for that amount of Lego and for the other box. There are some amazing sets in there Jake. Defo worth a lot more than £40. Moat car boot sellers that sell Lego want the earth for a small set. So you did well sir. Wish I had the extra cash to make an offer 😁
Also, maybe this kid is just an exceptionally conscientious kid that takes good care of his stuff, but I was born in 1981 and I had no concept of taking care of my Lego during the 80s. I was too young to know and appreciate the value of what I had; they were simply toys to me back then and they were heavily played with, broken, and lost... Which is how I ended up spending so much money on them as an adult to replace the sets I had lost over the years. The idea of hanging on to boxes and keeping sets in better condition didn't come until my teens. I would be surprised if this kid was born in 1980, or maybe he was just really well behaved.
Wow! Looks like a great deal to me, considering current value of Lego. I also most definitely recognise boxes of these, despite not having own these many… the black helicopter was either owned by a friend for example, or I craved it. Recognise a couple more. I STILL HAVE THE SAME AIRPORT SET! I was wondering if you had it since the size and the theme of the others. Ofc we only have all the Lego chucked in a container as nobody was expecting it to become a collection Thing, as well and more on point of what you say about the simplicity, Lego back then were made to be mixed, you could just create so much instead of sticking to the instructions. I have a rebrickable account and it gives you a rough idea of what your sets are worth. You are in profit from your £40 investment. Great video Jake 👍👍
Add a zero to that 40 you paid. That's the minimum I'd say an im no expert. But there is definitely a lot of value right there. A 1990 fire station an looks like from a smoke free home. Bro. Make sure you get your pay day for this one an dont take no rubbish from no one lol
I recognise a few of those sets from my childhood, especially the hospital plane, the fire station and the airport. Sadly I no longer have any of my old Lego. I would be interested in those sets if you have prices and can confirm they are complete.
I've stuck a few of them on my BrickLink (see description). If you're interested let me know and I'll check the parts out in more detail (it's a lot of effort and I'd usually just offer a partial refund for missing parts).
