Hey Chris, I’m not sure if I tell you this, but people these days are sadly becoming more and more angry than before when it comes to elevator photography since this video was made, and also at the time you showed my footage in another video like this. In case you don’t know this, Chris, even after politely giving them my exact valid point about my elevator hobby, I still get confronted. Like they assume filming an elevator is some sort of joke or a criminal hobby or something like that. Do you know anything about this current situation? Sadly to say, but even the very south tip is almost kind of becoming like the north east, at least in the big cities and suburbs.

I have gotten busted sometimes for elevator filming, and sometimes the situations didn't take too long to be dealt with while others took longer to be dealt with. It's different in some ways if doing it in a public facility versus doing it in a private property, especially if trespassing.

Yes, filming on public and private property are two totally different things. On public property you can film as much as you want because it is spaces that are open to the public and there’s no rules that are against filming on public property. It is a different story though if you were doing it on private property that is not owned by say the government

The only thing untrue in your video is their right to take a picture of you. They can take pictures of you as much as they want, and likely they already have pictures of you from their security footage anyway. But they can't detain you to take a picture of you.
But there is absolutely nothing unlawful for them to take a picture of you. They are agents of the property and it is their property. So, they are able to.
Everything else is pretty spot on though.
I used to work in security a long time ago, and encountered a couple people who liked to film elevators and escalators. They were usually pretty chill and told me what it was for and I just let it happen as long as they weren't trying to get into restricted areas since there was no harm in it. If you're chill and explain what it's for, you'll usually get a pretty good response.

That I agree with, as long as they’re using their own personal device. I would probably do the same for the guard. But they have no right to take away your own personal property and then threaten to call the police on you. The only thing they can do, is to ask either to stop taking pictures, or even leave the property. And at that point you should comply. As you could face serious criminal charge. You are right about that previous part though. They are allowed to take pictures of you on private property whether it’s with a cell phone or their surveillance cameras throughout the place or the shopping mall.

I hate to say Chris that my parents do have a strict policy about deleting videos when getting told not to film.

Depending on the situation and age if your under 18 then yeah you got a listen to your parents but if you’re over 18 and you’re an adult then you don’t have to listen to them

Chris Cronin My parents say I should listen to them and delete my videos even if I’m over 18.
