Cmos can be used in linear mode. I made a state variable filter oscillator using one. Hexinverters the easiest useful device. Tl074 Op amp vastly better. LM324 is a low grade op amp which is still better. It makes a reasonable comparator which can both source and sink current. Thd of TL074 can be 0.005% Hexinverter 0.1%. 0.1% would be worse were it not for the fact that cmos is very willing work in pure class B/C.
@@IMSAIGuy you're right, assumed the 40106 was like the 74hc04, but is in fact a Schmidt ... that detail slipped although used them before. Currently unavailable until the end of this year till i get replenishment of them. awesome chip, can be used to make VCO.
@@IMSAIGuy thnx, i have used the transistor setup/approach in several of my builds (a bit cheaper than a dip14 package also in real estate, if you only need one). the Fairchild datasheet of the 74HC14 shows it's build. it's made of 2 mosfets and 4 fets + 2 CMOS inverters(mosfets), the 2 additional fets seam to be the hysteresis/schmidt part, will simulate later
Iz thar uh glitch in tha matrix? Wuz he gunna show us how to operate this in linear fashion? Wuz he gunna build a lo noise moving coil phono preamp using 7413's guaranteed to please every golden eared audiophile? Inquiring minds wanna know.
Good, thank you. Schmitt triggers are quintessential of electronics. And NE555, and HC595 and 8080 and Z80. :-)
I think you got some bit of blank video after the end. lol
Forgot about Shmitt triggers. Solves a certain problem with microprocessor.

One of the best epilogues ever. Kinda dark tho :D
I often use a 74x14 to speed up slow clock transition times.
I like how you added (@3:45) the Vcc&Gnd symbols onto your schematic while you were explaining it!

I like your MSO5354 patch. I just ordered this scope and was intending to put similar sticker. (wink wink)
which chip has the same properties, but from the CD series and being bigger than 5 volt? translating would cost much real estate.
40106

@@IMSAIGuy funnily enough, none of the datasheets show the internal circuitry of the Hex Schmitt Trigger, 40106, 74hc14,74LV14, ...
: )
hmm, must be secret, anyway it looks like this: www.electronicshub.org/schmitt-trigger-basics/

Schmitt trigger for Synth music "Analog music" 😁
I don’t understand your schematic with the schmitt trigger at the output of the comparator: I think you meant to connect it at the input?
the comparator will not have hysteresis. A better schematic would have an opamp running into the 7414.
I'm seen 74 series self oscillating when level is between, due to damaged part one stage up.. 😂
At the end, all become black.. 😉

It's only a sawtooth if it comes from the Sawtooth region of France, otherwise it's just a sparkling wood cutter signal.
it is a pyramid ;-}
