Picking Carrots and Saving Seeds in January! Satisfying Crunchies

- We're still here! Please excuse my sniffles and rough voice. It's been a slow couple of months, but for those who have asked, this is all there is to see for now. Awesome to see the carrots, now 10 months since we planted, are going strong with absolutely no direct sunlight. We'll be pulling those up soon, as we are finally forecast for some real winter weather. I have a recipe in mind for them, over a fire. All we did today was collect seeds and burn the dead stuff, as always, Josh was a massive help, we only have one tree in our yard, so he helped me get some leaves and re-mulch the beds, which we covered again with a thin layer of leftover topsoil. Hope everyone is staying warm! I cannot wait to start my seeds!

I really missed you, Nina. I'm glad you are doing well. When it gets cold, carrots get sweeter for frost protection. I actually had to dig my carrots one time in blocks of ice soil, and they were great. When I see someone who fishes and gardens that makes life better for me. May the Lord keep blessing you and yours. Is it time for another Kauwai trip?

You should start a compost pile with that garden debris! It'll breakdown like the wheat straw did!
We do have a pile, but it's gotten to where it takes up too much space! In spring we'll add ash from the firepit to the beds.
