- We have upped sticks and gone on holiday to sunny Birmingham on the way to Cyprus. Lets take a few days to see what Birmingham has to offer and see if it really is as bad as we are led to believe.

In my humble opinion it looks more like a hostel and not a hotel
I was about to type the same thing.
Don't rent one of those again. We have this problem in almost all hotels in the U.S. They've gotten really shabby over the years, the reviews are frequently faked.

I All ways take a can of dettol spray to All hotel rooms. I used to be a chambermaid and know what goes on. All ways wash your cups and spoons. Then spray everything you would touch. Hope you have a great holiday. X
I would not stay there
Take it it’s an Ibis hotel, I stayed in one in Glasgow recently and it was a total dump, it was like an old dump Blackpool hotel from the 1980s, absolutely horrible, but as You say cheap, just get drunk and You’ll forget about it until You wake up 😃,

The hotel Sheraton in blackpool is lovely beautiful decor very clean lovely food great service too it's expensive but excellent 😊

A few weeks ago we went to Greece via Brum. Our travel agent got us one nights hotel in the airport Crown Plaza and upto 14 nights car parking at the hotel. Cost .. £130 . The hotel was very plush and £8 taxi to airport. We were right next (walking distance)to Birmingham leisure world , cinemas restaurants etc.
Get some disinfectant to put down the plugs , make sure you leave a complaint when you leave that grotty hotel, Birmingham is not a place I would like to visit,
Excuse me I live very close to Birmingham 75.00 per night what would you expect?
Nothing wrong with brum, they just didn't go to the nice places.

We recently visited Wells Cathedral. Confronted with a suggested donation of £8 we cheekily said '''No thanks'' and walked right in. Inside the beautiful Cathedral and it really was, were card pay points where you could donate if you wanted to, £5. What a cheek. On principal we didn't donate anything and we tagged onto the back of a guided tour group. It was the best 'free' attraction in Wells.
Benjamin came into my school and he was not very old at the time. I will never forget the experience. He was an amazing man.

Awwww Mazzy u could have both stayed at mine. That Hotel room looks rank. There are some lovely places in Brum... try Broad St and the Canal Bars x
I agree there are some fantastic places there. I love visiting Birmingham and The Library of Birmingham is out of this world. It's great what has been done to Paradise Circus.

Once stopped overnight in Birmingham as the ex wife entered a Martial Arts championship at the National Indoor arena over 20 years ago. We stopped at a grizzly hotel on Edgbaston Road and it was filthy but very cheap. I had a 3 Series red BMW "with indicators" and the receptionist told me to park it near the entrance as they had a CCTV located there. I went to a Spa shop to get a jar of QT powdered tea and heard this Jamaican voice bellowing inside the shop so thought it was being held up at gunpoint lol. Anyway later that evening we caught a bus in to town and everyone was looking in this restaurant window so we had a gander. A local man wearing a Crombie which was covered in dog hair said in a Brummi accent "Don't go in there it's too dear" He then said go in to town and go to the Old Orleans bar which we did. I ordered a ranch steak "a dusted spicy steak" and it was fantastic. The Brummi gentleman then came in and sat opposite us and the waitress knew his name. It was a pleasant evening and quite enjoyed it. When we went to the NIC we walked round nearby and went in the Sealife Centre then walked down to the canal which was a surprise and very close to the NIC. i Would recommend going near the NIC as the canal etc is very scenic and there's a nice pub there.
P.S. if you use a bus give them the correct fare as they don't give change.
Shame about that room guys! Having said that, it's a delight to be back watching you - already said so once but it's true! You both rock and are so real! x

Go to Grand central where you come off the train, loads to eat. You’re not in the best area there. China town is better , or go round the Symphony hall or ICC. I’m a Yorkshire girl who lives in Brum , I wish I could have given you some tips . Xx The back to back houses you walked past NT are great you have to book though.
Yes, Broad Street and Paradise are fantastic areas. I love Birmingham and the lovely old ornate buildings amidst the new glass ones.
Not the safest part to be staying, avoid that maccies too! Best parts of brum are brindley place, by the canals. The mailbox is nice too. That’s just up from where you are staying. xxx

Hi both you're in my hometown,but I don't think you're seeing the best Birmingham has to offer ,Google the library and go towards there ,there's beautiful canals with bars and restaurants,the town hall with our famous floozy in the jacuzzi, lots of bars and restaurants in broad street ,hope you're time in Brum gets better ❤❤

Mazzy and dan you are better of sleeping at the airport at least it much cleaner i wouldn't want to pay that much its not worth it i rather sleep in a tent anyway we learn by our mistakes 😢
Get yourselves one of those USB charging stations. It's a mains plug to a 6 port USB hub. Perfect for travelling.

From my experience of a recent trip to Birmingham ,i wont be visiting again ,its an absolute poo hole.
Agreed, I wouldn’t go there on a free break even to a decent hotel in Birmingham (even without the remains of peoples noses left on surfaces🤮).

I don't blame you Mazzy it was making me feel sick as well. Dan is trying his best to make it ok for you even he didn't like it its a shame u can't get ya money back and go somewhere else. I no what you are like Mazzy about everything being clean and spotless. Not long now till ya proper holiday enjoy and safe journey xx

I must admit that I wouldn’t go to Birmingham unless I had absolutely no choice, and I definitely couldn’t even stay for one night in the hotel room you have, let alone spend 4 nights in it (I would rather take my chances staying at the Bates Motel😀).

I have visited the cathedral often and i can assure you any donation is completely voluntary . They won't collor you or approach you. Why comment if you don't know

Always read the reviews of anywhere you are going. I eould have complained about the smell & the boggies all over & asked for my money back!! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!! I'd have rather slept in the cathedral grounds & used the shower van....there wasn't much difference in amenities. I must say though you were both hilarious without meaning to be, bless you both. Never mind you'll soon be in sunny Cypress yay🥳🥳

They looked at the reviews after they checked in, rather than before booking it.
I’m a Brummie but now live in Evesham. Go to Brindley Place round by the camels. I remember you driving up the M6 going home going pass Birmingham and you said what a place it looked
Never mind Dan Mazzy you are going on a lovely holiday to Cyprus. I’m sure the next place you stay is a lot better than what you’re in now,
Hope you find some nice places to visit. National trust back to back houses and mail box area might be worth a try, although haven't been for over 10 years 😊xx

I love hotel rooms like that. Similar to a CitizenM. Those are made up of pre-fabricated compact rooms that are shipped to the site and stacked.

If you’re still in Brum, I can recommend a pub called The Wellington, proper old pub 👌. Just up the hill from New st

I'm with Mazzy on the hotel. Definitely not a fan of the hospital design, looks very odd (yet another reason why I stick to Travelodge)
If you ever get the chance, go to the Chinatown in Liverpool, it's amazing and feels like being in a real-life mini China! Much better than this one I'm sure.
I've never been to Birmingham apart from the NEC. I know it's a bit of Curry capital and has a lot of canals, but otherwise I know nothing about it. Because of that, I am finding this to be extremely interesting so far!

Poor u two. I’m not sure I could have stayed there. I just love how you try to make the best of it. Let’s hope it gets better. It can’t get any worse 😳

Please take notice when you go on holiday about staying out of the hot weather and drinking more water than you would normally what they are saying is 2 liters in stead of 1 liter

Genuinely, stay in the busy tourist areas at night and keep your eyes peeled.. don’t get me wrong, brindley place by the canal is really nice but it ain’t what it used to be now 😢

Try not to cheap out on usb power supply's/chargers , The cheaper ones are known death traps , Birmingham has always been known as a dodgy place where i live so be careful.

Entender un the Catedral is always free mate. They never asked for money and you miss the most beautiful vision inside.
They DO recommend a £5 donation in most cathedrals nowadays. Yes you don't have to pay but they make you feel bad if you don't.
