Unit easily had enough traction as the genius of the design was that every wheel was powered, the tractor unit at the front and power-wagon at the back merely generated electricity for the wheel motors. This was designed for use in the Arctic but R G was always looking for other applications. The articulation was designed so that every wagon would follow exactly in the wheel marks of the first unit.

How did the articulation do that?

From 1:06 on where the vehicle chases it's tail you can see that the truck and each trailer has a fairly long tongue. Unlike a typical tongue, however, it does not pivot on the front. In essence what that does is guide the front of each trailer in a circle slightly larger than if it was a conventional tongue that pivots on both ends. That makes up for the fact that each trailer itself still cuts the corner a bit.
I suspect that similar technique is not used on everyday trailers just because of how long the vehicle has to be and the fact that one or two trailers _usually_ don't cut a corner enough to worry about much. Can take a corner wide if need be.

The area is still a big logging area. Thank goodness for sustainable industries. That plant was cool as heck back in the day. The big silver domes. R.G was one hell of a man, let me tell you. Leader of an Industry for sure.

I'm not sure of the time frame, but I'm gonna say the late 1950's maybe early 60's and it was in Longview Texas. I recognize the streets and the RG LeTourneau Inc plant at the end. Since the shots on the highway were in Longview, I'm guessing the rest were shot in rural areas around town.

VC-12 Tournatrain? Second version, with extra trailers and a second power-unit at the rear? They sure have made some pretty cool stuff in the past, huh? Shame it was never a success.

how could this be a success :)))... imagine that the forests usually are on the top of the mountains ...so in logging you was never going to see one of this + it would not have traction to move such weights simply from the design
