nice vid, im making my airport huge, like pretty big. It will be a big task but i want it ti be big, It will have 3 runways, a cargo building, about 50-60 gates, and proboly like 4-6 terminals.
Hi DJ aviation could you please continue the model airport series because it’s really good and it’s good to watch I’ve watched the other ones soo many times keep up the good work
Nice man I am actually making one of these videos myself on my Adelaide airport and this was very interesting to watch the way you make your airports !😀
Hello DJ,I am build a model airport and want to make homemade terminals and taxiways, could you possibly tell me what I would need for the airport on quite a low budget?
Hey mate! The main items I purchased were balsa wood (quite a cheap and flexible wood) some paint for your terminals and a see through mat sort of thing. This could be anything to be honest. Skybridges is the most expensive part all up to be honest. Taxiways I just used UNI Posca Pens ;)
Great video and series for those creating their own airports. Very clear and added detail to what you were talking about. Also, I really liked the music at the later part of the video, Alan Walker is my favourite artist these days so it had me grooving lol.. Look forward to Ep. 2 .. Liked!
Fantastic tutorial mate! I enjoyed it a lot and you had some great information in here. It really helped me with my airport which I am slowly starting to rebuild now. Thanks a ton for uploading this video man! : )
ok ok ok so, it is “GeminiJets” and “Herpa” and “Phoenix Models” and more. I don’t recommend going to a airport and buying them there. Pricy with low quality. If your Aussie like me, it goes from $40 - $215
Cheers, MDF is the best choice. My airport sits on a workmen's foldable bench, you can purchase them cheap at possibly your local hardware store. This one can hold up to 150kg :) however, when the board is completed we might fit some external legs to make it just that little more stable.
Hey, not sure at this stage, all previous trips to the airport have been to film just one plane. However, I might do a vlog for the Cathay A350 inaugural.
Showcasing them or doing a model airport are both great ways of showing off your models. I preferred doing an airport just because it's a great hobby on the side and the end result will be superb.
Hi , I’m about to start to build my own airport it will be quite big and I need some layout help because the layout I have found has a cargo section next to the runway. Also , where would you recommend buying the cars, boarding bridges and lights from for relatively low prices. And how do u make gates ?
You just need to adjust it accordingly to the 1:200 aircraft etc. However, making a 1:200 airport is probably not the best idea as they take us literally so much space.
Thanks, mine has been going pretty bad as well :P as i said this is the second time I've had to sand all progress of the board. Praying now we've got all the right materials. Just did my first coat yesterday and it's looking good!
Dj's Aviation yeah I chose to do it the hard way and decided to make my own gse with resin and after trial and error for a year I finally have almost gotten my gse done now I'm back to my terminal work
Already recorded EP.2 ;) should be up when I find a spare time to upload. Got some cool stuff to upload in the coming days like the Cathay A359 inaugural :) have a good day
Mine are the 0.9-1.3 ones. It really depends on how you also hold the pens. If you hold it a particular way it is likely the lines will appear thicker etc. If you apply less pressure they will come out thinner. Hope this helps.
i’m gonna start building my own but need some help with good websites to buy gse, terminals, cargo hangars, planes and passenger bridges etc. can someone help me?
I don’t think you’ll be able to get anything before Christmas now as it’s way too late and a lot of shops due to not a lot of demand will probably close
It's all a factor that helps you choose which Scale. Personally I'd recommend 1:400 just because there are many more brands that make them and of course a lot more planes with different moulds around.
Yeah i already chose 1:500 and already have an airport and i chose it because i think 1:400 is just a little bit to big. And i am gone costum all aircrafts that i want but dont exist
Dutch_airport _spotter I collect 1:500 too! I can give you a good shop (DJ can probably guess what I am about to say) but westmaintoys is a good and has so many 1:500
The terminals were taken from your design but the rest not. Unfortunately it was the only logical way to actually make my airport fully functional with a taxiway and runway
Now this will be an extremely interesting set of episodes mate. I'm really looking forward to seeing these :) so cool!
Thanks mate : ) Hope it helps everyone : D

Have fun making your airport. I will make a model airport in the next few months

Good luck mate! Although this is for 1:400 hopefully it is still somewhat helpful.
Very helpful - interesting to see how much work is involved.
Thanks, hope it is. Yep, making your own airport is certainly harder than it looks :) But the rewards when you've compelted it I'm sure are great.

cool video! I'm remaking my airport out of mdf, so that's why there will not be an update in the next couple of weeks. what is your mdf resting on?
Cheers, MDF is the best choice. My airport sits on a workmen's foldable bench, you can purchase them cheap at possibly your local hardware store. This one can hold up to 150kg :) however, when the board is completed we might fit some external legs to make it just that little more stable.

Great video!! Thanks for the tips :)

Hey DJ, when will the next airport vlog be out?
Hey, not sure at this stage, all previous trips to the airport have been to film just one plane. However, I might do a vlog for the Cathay A350 inaugural.
What paint do you recommend? Just acrylics or perhaps base paint in the tins?
Great video, like :)
Thank you!
Great video!
Cheers!
Awesoem!
I have so many models but I keep them in a showcase.Maybe someday I'll built a scale model airport too.Needs a lot of work though.
Showcasing them or doing a model airport are both great ways of showing off your models. I preferred doing an airport just because it's a great hobby on the side and the end result will be superb.

Is raw MDF board the same as plywood. I’m starting a model airport in the US
Is it the same for 1/200?
You just need to adjust it accordingly to the 1:200 aircraft etc. However, making a 1:200 airport is probably not the best idea as they take us literally so much space.
Nice I love your airport my own airports progress isn't going so well as well I've taken a year!

Which size do the Posca Pens are?
Hi. How to make straight line with posca and ruler. I tried but the ink always overflow
Do you need specifically need MDF board?
I’d recommend it to be honest
uni posca pens get them in office works :)
How wide should the runway be
what thickness are your posca markers?
The middle thickness. I believe it could be 1.5
To add I believe there's a thin, medium sized and large sized one. Mine is that middle one.
Dj's Aviation oh ive bought the 0.7
Dj's Aviation your markings look thinner than that
Mine are the 0.9-1.3 ones. It really depends on how you also hold the pens. If you hold it a particular way it is likely the lines will appear thicker etc. If you apply less pressure they will come out thinner. Hope this helps.
What type of base are you using ?
What are the things to make it
isnt 300cm 3 metres??
Correct
graeme cote must have been AnERrORRR
i’m gonna start building my own but need some help with good websites to buy gse, terminals, cargo hangars, planes and passenger bridges etc. can someone help me?

Dj's Aviation ohh ok! I wish we could meet in real life and you could help me!
How good would that be?
i'd make one, but i dont have space in my house :/
You could use a bookshelf and set up mini gates possinly?
I am making a airport
Yeah i am sad that 1:500 has a so few planes and in 1:400 you have 10000000 of planes
It's all a factor that helps you choose which Scale. Personally I'd recommend 1:400 just because there are many more brands that make them and of course a lot more planes with different moulds around.

The terminals were taken from your design but the rest not. Unfortunately it was the only logical way to actually make my airport fully functional with a taxiway and runway
great video
