Mary the Squirrel Dropped by at the Cafe (1-3-25)

  • We hadn't seen Mary since 12-2-24 when she came while we were gone and was thoroughly harassed by Joey and the other boys because of mating season. She is not looking so slim now. I think she's probably pregnant. If she became pregnant last month, she could be half through it already. Or, she may have put on weight for the winter season. Either way, she's looking like the Mary I knew most of last year.
    (Mary is an Eastern Fox Squirrel living in Los Angeles)

    🤔 Mary sure enjoyed her food which is fabulous to see.... not too long then to see if more lil ones on the way 😃🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️ so sweet she knows the drill for a Pecan to take home 🤭

    Squirrels breed twice a year, usually from December to February and again from June to August. However, the exact timing depends on the weather and availability of food. For example, a mild winter may cause squirrels to start breeding earlier, while a cool summer may delay the fall breeding season.

      Yes, they seem to move their mating season about a month earlier here in Southern California than it is in colder climates. It seemed to be from late November to mid-December this year.
