      Love watching your mvp disc reviews cuz I know you can get them up to speed. Have based many buy opinions based o. Your reviews.
      If you wanna get nerdy and try to get review for as much players as possible -> How about having techdisc and pocket radar? First throw techdisc to net, next throw move the net and leave the camera there, try to replicate to the field and postedit the throw that had similiar hyzer angle on video. Then have a pocket radar and try to go through multiple armspeed so players with low, mid or high arm speed.
      Lots of efforts but I think added effort will pay in long term back in likes, subscribes, views etc..

    I think "benchmarking" your current power level/spin/speed before a review (with techdisc maybe?) could help for revIews. I appreciate how often you mention your hand size, as I have the opposite issue where discs feel too small sometimes, so a big disc for you often turns outnto be perfect for me. I think the biggest thing is flight numbers change from person to person as well depending on release speed, RPM and all those other fancy numbers.
    So even if PDGA did introduce a standardized flight number testing thing similar to the robot designed by one of battle bots people (featured in a Simon Lizotte vid IIRC) which can throw the disc the exact same way every single time, the flight from that bot will still be different from when someone else throws it.
    However I do think it could help a major amount with being able to baseline how discs fly for you and then being able to look for flight numbers that better suit your throw instead of just being like “well X company says it flies like this so I guess I just gotta trust them”.
    Biggest example would be the difference between discraft’s ‘z-line’ and other plastics. Anyone who has thrown a ‘z-line’ plastic disc know they are usually way more overstable than the other plastics that discraft uses, but the flight numbers are either the same, or barely different than the other plastics they use.

    • @MammothMan35

      I mean with the robot you would throw a statistically significant number of shots within about 1 standard deviation of the range of nose angle, speed, and rpm

    I personally love the way you stage your disc reviews. Putting the new disc in competition with exisiting discs of a “similar” flight number range is awesome. 9 times out of 10 you throw a disc that I bag or have bagged before so I know roughly how that new disc will fly for me. It gives me a better feeling and understanding about this new disc, even despite you throwing well over 100ft more than me.

    I take reviews as a general guide. It's helpful to watch reviews of multiple discs from the same reviewer so I get a sense of how different discs fly for that person. A really useful component of reviews, such as what you did with your Trail review, is to throw at least a couple "standards" of a similar speed even if they're not like the disc under review so that we get a sense of how you throw.
    By the way, the Trail is awesome. I get distance drivers out to 450' on a flat release. For me, the Trail thrown flat will drift right at about 200' before finishing very forward, only fading back to center at just under 400'.

    I always appreciate how you throw different releases, and different types of shots for the disc to show "what the disc does" and since i've watched almost everyone one of your videos for the past couple of years, and know you throw further and more mechanically correct(form), i always will assume my disc has a less emphasized flight characteristic than it would for you. Maybe if possible, a thing i could see beneficial, is that if you could coordinate with a person you know doesnt throw too too far ~300avg to 350good throw, it might be better for the viewer? I always trust a bodanza review, especially more than other reviewers because i feel like youre very consistent and an established well above average player. sorry for the essay haha

    Fantastic video. I've always had an issue with flight numbers and the problem is they're conflating marketing with science and measurement in a consumer focused bias. Without a non-partial 3rd party testing discs with a machine, we're basically just trusting advertisers to tell us what we think we want. As someone who's not great at picking and sticking to a mold, it's exhausting 😅.
    One thing I could see helping in the interim is using the tech disc as a base line at the beginning of the video. The viewer would at least have a general idea of speed, nose, spin being put on the disc which gives a more complete picture for the review.

    I constantly get asked questions about why I am throwing a 13 speed disc on a shorter hole. My answer is always simple “I’m arming down because I trust the flight and stability “ and a lot a newer players don’t understand that just because of the flight numbers doesn’t mean your form or arm speed is going to equate to the manufacturer. One of the biggest thing to learn is your body “numbers “.

    Thanks for dealing with an inaccurate system in a systematic way. There was an interview with Dave Dunipace from a couple of years ago where he said that they initially devised the system to just differentiate the discs within one "class" -- by that I meant putters, mids, control drives, distance drivers. It is an Innova legacy system that I feel really needs to go the way of the dodo. There should be the class of the disc and some notations about turn or fade (still on clear how that would be determined since that is pretty subjective as well). Thanks for taking this head on. It is definitely the most confusing for people that get repeated as it is etched in stone.

    I agree that your video with all sorts of levels of players was extra useful. I recall Simon did a video where he could basically try to throw at different speeds. That was very interesting and useful too. I wonder when you throw a disc at less than 100% energy that maybe you could estimate your speed of the throw? Some of us may never throw 70, or maybe even 60mph. You do throw some shots like smooth or dialed down. Those are helpful for more average throwers. Thanks for the great reviews!

  • @billbittick
    @billbittick 2 месяца назад

    My biggest recommendation would be that I would love to see you have a section in your disc review where you throw the disc at different speeds on a flat throw. Say 45, 55, 65. That way us mere mortals can get a better idea of what it will do for us. As your arm speed has increased so much, your throws with certain discs fly so different than what I can do.

    My very personal and maybe unpopular observations on disc reviews in general and some on yours: Score is unnecessary and I do not care about seeing you or any reviewer putt during the review. I think you are wrong in claiming that speed is only dependent on rim size. There is a good video out there with Dave Dunipace explaining the ratings system of Innova, and besides the rim width there is also the shape of the wing+nose, plus also the height of the disc that attributes to what speed it ”should” have.
    For example Dave said that for their ”3-disc” (i.e. Leopard 3, Teebird 3 etc.) the reason that they are higher speed than the non 3 counterpart is due to a lower/slimmer profile.

    I think Bodanza reviews are the gold standard. Disc comparisons are the essential component for any review. I was interested in a Trail but watched your review yesterday and seeing it was less flippy than the Gorgon I decided against it. (Looking at them side by side in disc shop jives with that) With my arm speed the trail will be just another stable disc with no flip up. Loved seeing your comparison of them all at the end. That is very helpful in understanding how the disc will fly for us. The other thing I like to see is different plastics, especially when there are known differences between them. But I wish more reviewers would include base plastics more often. New players have no idea that DX innova plastic adds like -2 turn to a disc. DX destroyer was my fission Timelapse long before the fission Timelapse.

    Single most important aspect of a disc: Color. These companies are making plastic that we throw, not pacemakers. Same disc, same plastic is often a different flight. I have never put much stock in flight numbers or reviews (no offense).

    Although, after the most recent Broderic episode. I still believe you should give the P1 a proper review. They came out with a premium plastic for the European open. You threw a heater with them. It’s amazing to throw in the woods. Amazing flip up hyzer shots and turnovers with controllable fade. Call it the “war of aviars” they all match the putt and approach aviar but some do it better.

    Really good to hear that you are at least aware of all these aspect and tbh, I could already see it. In the first very review after your Infinite Discs sponsorship, you certainly didn't rave about every single mold, some even got somewhat harsh feedback. So if I were you I would get too self conscious about it, but still good to be aware of.
    What you mentioned about the removable "tech disc puck" is a bit risky. I've heard that the "puck" does change the flight of a disc quite a bit, so reviewing disc with one attached is really not giving a true picture of the flight of the said disc. For me comparing discs to other ones and giving the rough distances is enough. We can always draw our own conclusions from that.

    First of all, thanks for caring about your viewers opinion and feedback!
    Regarding the disc reviews, I'll be honest and preferred your reviews from 1-2 years ago when you weren't throwing that far. I could (almost) relate to your form and throwing power, and now I can't.
    Having a poll to get "reliable" data (as much reliable as internet can be...) to get to know how your viewers are actually throwing (I'd bet a vast majority is stuck at 300-350 or even less) might help you to either tone down on some throws (Eagle showing how a dimension flies to 250ft was awesome), or have some John Does on the course you're playing throw once or twice the disc you are currently reviewing could help us, mere 300ft throwers, get a better idea of how a disc will "truly" fly for us.
    Keep the good work, and good luck for next few days / weeks ;-)

  • @NotSoFast71

    To me, the “speed” rating of the disc is how fast it needs to be going in order to fly optimally. You can throw a 1 speed glitch as a 6 year old kid and it will “fly correctly” or as intended. A 7 speed needs to be going faster to not just dive immediately to the left as a right handed backhand thrower. A speed 12 needs to fly a lot faster. Every disc manufacturer is different in what speed they think a 7 speed should have to go, but you’ll never have some governing body to regulate all companies’ flight numbers. But per manufacturer, at least they seem to be consistent.

    I would argue that the most applicable information to present in a review is comparison with other discs. I think that hits at the nutshell summary of your points: all the info is relative, so we should not expect objective information from a single person throwing a single disc. However, focusing on comparisons moves the reference points from an unknown reviewer to something we can know. So what I hope for in a review is 1. some talk about the disc and plastic type, 2. a variety of shots (preferably by two or more people) and 3. comparing the disc with two to four other common, well-known discs. Flight, shape (feel) and plastic should all be put into context by comparing with other discs. Your reviews delivers on all pretty well already, but I would like even more focus on comparisons. And maybe you could enlist someone else (randomly on the course perhaps?) to throw it as well.

  • @nomad182
    @nomad182 2 месяца назад

    You covered hand size, and I think that is the biggest dimension that can he covered in a video - find your friend with the most freakishly large hands and not only cover discs that are too deep for you (Alpaca?) and other discs that are just uncomfy in your friends mitt. This would further cement your points here that discs can't exactly be measured, but we can make rules of thumb and heuristics when just glancing at a disc.

  • @TM-DGG
    @TM-DGG 2 месяца назад

    My understanding of the speed rating makes a lot of factors mute. The speed rating is simply a measure of the discs aerodynamics. A faster disc maintains the speed it left your hand at for a longer period of time. Rim width often correlates so closely to speed because as the rim is widened, the aerodynamic efficiency increases. Two different discs with same speed rating (aerodynamic efficiency) may have a little variance in rim width.
    Now does this mean speed ratings are accurate, no. Manufactuers, at a minimum, would have to run their molds through the same computer model to get an accurate, universal rating.

    I think the important word is compare. Most of us know what we like to throw but sometimes we want something thats a bit flippy or more stable compared to what we've got.
    I think you should scratch the flight numbers and start youre own chart with the discs you have and categorize them in 5-6 categories. (putter, approach, mid, fairway,(controle distance 🤔?) and distance drivers.
    In each category there should be a benchmark with a neutral well known disc in the middle that you(we) have as a reference.
    Example. In the mid category you use a Buzz in Z-plastic and the you review a fuse in opto and a hex in fission and then we the viewers kan se that the fuse is a lot less stable then the buzz and the hex is probably the disc i was searching for because i wanted a just tad less stable buzz 🤷. The same is with speed/glide if it goes farther or shorter then it should be above or below the buzz.
    Sorry for the long post but this is what i always want when looking for a new disc. Keep up the good work and i really like youre vids.

    My problem with your reviews is how you are using the discs for shots that you clearly would NEVER use them for. Watching you force a distance driver on a 250 foot hole or a 100 foot upshot isn't helping anyone learn anything about the disc. There is a lot of fluff to try to find the 2 or 3 times you actually throw it in a real situation. I know throwing in a field is boring for everyone, but maybe have just a couple field rips with a flight tracker in there somewhere.

    The "all discs are good" mentality of reviewers is hugely annoying, some of us don't have money to purchase every new release.
    We need some idea of what is going to give us the "best" flight for the spot we need to fill and our arm speeds and elevation... which brings me to my other point, I think the most people that need reviews are probably middle or bottom of the AM pile, so realistically a review from someone with a bomber arm (like bodanza) isn't all that useful unless he's throwing it at 60 to 70% power. (Or get a fat old guy guest thrower...hmu)
    Like others mentioned, altitude is important too (I'm at bodanza altitude so I'm good).

    My biggest problem with disc reviews is that I can't stop thinking about getting a Trail after yesterday despite telling myself my Insanity, Impulse, and Waves had me 100% covered and I'd never need to spend more money in that space.
    And then you broke out again immediately here. I'm going to be poorer for your channel.
    I think flight numbers are fine and a necessary evil.
    What's helpful in a review is a relative comparison throwing stuff against standard stock discs you think represent the numbers. Reviewing a disc standalone isn't super helpful.
    Ultimately, there's 1000x more variability throw to throw and player to player than the discs. Lets say they do develop a robot that throws exactly the same and you slap a tracker on the discs and do 10,000 throws and put laser-accurate flight numbers on it. You hand it to a player and it's all instantly irrelevant.
    The best you can do is be pretty average and throw discs a lot and show what happens. Everything else is on the viewer to interpret all those other variables.

    they should all be "thrown" by simon lizotte's robot at the same speed 3 speeds. a beginner ish speed, intermediate and "pro" (flat and at a resonable anger of hyzer and anhyzer) in door filmed from above on a grid pattern, so 1 fade, vill be the disc fading one line in the floor grid pattern.... same for distance every speed should correlate to a line on the floor... (many smaller increments than one line will be optimal) JUST NOT ANY THING IN AMERICAN UNITS!!!!!! metric system please, devidable by 100 is just so much easier!!
    this should be possible to calibrate with a techdisc like product??
    And on a sidenote, pleeeese ask a sponsor for a banner that can cover the plastic wall, i simply can't abstract from the "DEXTER VIBE" and it's driving me nuts!!! 😆🤪🤣🗡🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸🩸
