Fun fact: the real reason Uncle Ian didn't appear in The Road Chip was because at the time of filming David Cross was hospitalized with severe back pain from carrying the entire franchise.
He was also really very uncomfortable working on the sets of Chipwrecked and decided to join the three girls who lost to the Chipettes in their group of "Mean Dancin' Gals who only wear primary colored clothing" instead
this franchise was one of my guilty pleasures i had as a kid cause i couldn't handle how cheesy it was even for my 8 year old self but i was too fixated with the chipettes 😭
Nothing in cinema history has ever bothered me more than the fact that not only are the glasses Dave just finds laying around to give to Simon his EXACT prescription, but that the SANTA DOLL that he takes them from is wearing PRESCRIPTION LENSES for NO DISCERNIBLE REASON
I just watched all the movies today (except the 4th one) AND THIS WAS WHAT I FIRST THOUGHT!!! WHAT??? DAVE ARE YOU SECRETLY AN EYE DOCTOR? Just howwwww
I truly thought it was just Magnifying glass, and it was just lucky that it was a close prescription, but that’s just a theory an Alvin and the chipmunks theory!
No but can we talk about how the chipettes are icons and deserve their own movie. It’s not just that their singing is better, or that their performances are flashier, or that they actually change outfits. It’s also the their sibling bond and their supportive personalities making them the most generous and kind hearted of the cast. The 4th movie casting them aside but still make them steal the chipmunks fame literally makes it facts.
i feel like the sibling bond goes for both trios (alvin is jus more annoying) BUT GOD THE OUTFIT CHANGE YOU ARE SO RIGHT i love the old chipmunks media but by god do they never fucking wear anything better than their hoodie-dresses
I remember watching the the first movie with my cousin’s when I was younger. And after all these years, I still have no idea how those chipmunks blew up so quickly?! 🤷♀️
I mean, it WAS like the third wave of the chipmunks phenomenon. You had the original songs and cartoons from the 60s iirc, then the 80s and 90s cartoon, and then these movies plus that Nickelodeon 3d animated cartoon show
Jesse McCartney (Theodore): Robin/Nightwing in Young Justice as well as Roxas and Ventus in Kingdom Hearts Justin Long (Alvin): Matt in Live Free or Die Hard as well as Justin Redman in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story Matthew Gray Gubler (Simon): Dr. Spencer Reid in Criminal Minds *They couldn't have picked a more based trio to voice iconic characters*
1:50 “I want Alvin to hang from a rope hanging on a tree…” “I wanna marry Simon…” “I want Theodore to go to the war and never come back.” So inspirational
Dave is an absolute jerk in Chipwrecked for going to far with being strict and harsh on and punishing Alvin, Simon and the Chipettes (I can’t help but feel extremely sorry for them all.) for disobeying his rules and causing chaos on the cruise ship and treating them like little kids when in reality they are not behaving like ones, just party animals, and not being a great dad to Alvin and Simon, concerned more about his own personal needs/problems and desires than the chipmunks (His infamous quote, “I trusted you tonight and look where that got me” is a good example of this.) What's worse is that Dave never gets his comeuppance for his actions at the end or even bothers to apologize to Alvin, Simon and the Chipettes for his cruel actions, (He instead has Alvin apologize when he never actually did anything wrong!) making Ian and Zoe despite the latter’s half-baked redemption look like better parent figures to the Chipmunks and Chipettes by comparison. Dave’s only redeeming quality is that he doesn’t act cruel or strict towards Theodore but instead the complete opposite, nice and friendly and caring (But mostly due to the latter obeying all his rules and not leaving the hotel room like Alvin, Simon and the Chipettes did.) and accepts the necklace Theodore gave him out of kindness, takes sympathy on him after Alvin forces him to watch “Jungle Monster III” and doesn’t tirade him later on like he does with Alvin, Simon and the Chipettes and lets him have an entire plate of donuts to eat and do any activity he wants on the cruise ship without being punished by being confined to only doing shuffleboarding like Alvin, Simon and the Chipettes were and Dave later warmly reunites with Theodore on the island later on. But still, the chipmunks and chipettes should have cut ties with Dave after the movie as payback for his strict and selfish behavior towards them and choose to live with Zoe or Ian after their redemptions or Clarie instead.

I wasn't sure if I liked the movie series or not when I was younger because I don't remember being overly obsessed with it. Present day I want this franchise to burn tho I listen to sped up songs, high pitched singing teenage chipmunks crosses the line. Also chipcest exists
My only experience with this franchise is an ancient Christmas album we listened to while putting up our tree when i was growing up that predates these movies by a landslide, watching Chipwrecked on a plane once in 2013 and promptly forgetting all of it, and have a mini crisis when I found out much later that Matthew Gray Gubler voices Simon. Needless to say, watching these reviews with no context was wild. Oh! I think I also saw an animated Halloween special with them where Theodore is a werewolf or something.

Man some people really have it out for Alvin and Theodore lol Also I wholeheartedly agree with the voice acting thing. No one will be able to tell that Roxas is Theodore after the voice pitch. Fox could have picked literally anyone with the slightest bit of VA experience to voice the Chipmunks and no one would notice.

LMFAO the purple one singing sos was also the coolest thing I’d ever seen
naw cuz alvin and the chipmunks were literally my childhood when i was around 7-10 💀
Man some people really have it out for Alvin and Theodore lol
Also I wholeheartedly agree with the voice acting thing. No one will be able to tell that Roxas is Theodore after the voice pitch. Fox could have picked literally anyone with the slightest bit of VA experience to voice the Chipmunks and no one would notice.
I've heard the Chipettes cover of Hot n' Cold about a thousand times and I've still never heard the Katy Perry version in full
24framesofnick cameo! Let's go!
Y’all I loved those movies and I will never condone Theodore slander in this household
