4 lakh out of 5 lakh movie goers are on PVR passport. That shows how bad PVR is doing. At this point they are making more money from food than movies! What is the point of multiplexes then? You have killed the mindset of people. Movies were about roughly 150-200 rupee ticket, with 100-150 spend on pepsi and popcorn 10-15 years back. Those were golden years of Indian cinema with every other movie breaking 100 crore record. Now with the exception of 5-7 blockbusters (out of 1000+ movies) which do 500 crore, 30-40 crore is the new 100 crore. So the price of movies as well as food should have gone down or stayed same at best. But food price has gone up from 150 rupees to 1000 rupees. Does it even make sense? As I said 4 out of 5 lakh movie goers use passport. Those 500-1000 rupee popcorn pepsi combos are being bought by the remaining priveledged 1 lakh. You took away the fun of Cinema from 80% of India and made them bikharis dependent on PVR passport watching movies on work days when we are not even in free mindset. Business is not everything. You forgot cinema runs in our blood. Its our culture. And PVR will SUFFER for changing that model and killing the spirit of the nation.

GST Rates in India vs. Global Rates India's GST Slabs: India has a multi-tier GST structure with rates of 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, plus cess on luxury and sin goods. The 18% and 28% slabs are higher than the global average. Global Comparisons: Singapore: A single rate of 8%. Australia: A single rate of 10%. UK and EU: Standard rates hover around 20% but often have exemptions or reduced rates for essentials. China: A standard rate of 13%. Canada: 5% GST at the federal level, combined with provincial rates. Why India's GST Rates Are Higher Complex Structure: Multiple slabs and frequent changes have led to compliance complexity, affecting businesses and consumers alike. Impact of High GST Rates Inflationary Pressure: Higher rates on items like food and consumer goods contribute to increased retail prices, compounding inflation concerns. Consumer Burden: Indirect taxes like GST are regressive, disproportionately affecting lower-income groups. Competitiveness: High GST rates increase production and service costs, making Indian exports less competitive in the global market. Compliance Costs: Businesses face a high compliance burden due to complex filing requirements and frequent rule changes. Comparison with Other Countries Simpler Structures Elsewhere: Many countries have a single GST/VAT rate or two rates (standard and reduced for essentials), simplifying compliance and reducing disputes. Exemptions for Essentials: In countries like Australia and Singapore, basic food items and essentials are exempt or taxed at a lower rate, which is not the case for many goods in India. Potential Reforms for India’s GST Rate Rationalization: Move towards fewer slabs, ideally 2-3, to simplify the structure. Reduce the highest slab of 28%, keeping luxury and sin goods under a separate cess. Exemptions for Essentials: Ensure that basic necessities have zero or minimal GST to ease the burden on common citizens. Improved Compliance Framework: Simplify filing procedures, especially for MSMEs, to reduce costs and increase participation. Focus on Direct Taxes: Broaden the direct tax base to reduce dependence on indirect taxes like GST. Incompetent Finance minister of India
The same GST council and pm said in 1st reporting of GST council... We won't impose tax on food... Now they forgot, and thinking people forgot and confusing with pop corn now 😂
Arun Jaitley, the former Finance Minister of India, advocated for simplifying the GST structure, including the idea of reducing multiple slabs. His proposal was rooted in addressing criticisms about the complexity of India's GST system, which has several tax slabs-0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%-making it more complicated compared to global standards. Arun Jaitley's Vision for GST Reform Fewer Slabs: He suggested moving toward two or three slabs to make GST simpler and more predictable. This was aligned with the long-term goal of a uniform tax structure to improve ease of compliance and reduce disputes. Rationalization of Rates: Jaitley believed that as the GST system stabilized and revenue collection increased, the higher slabs (28%) could be rationalized or merged into lower slabs. Essential goods and services could remain in lower slabs, while luxury and sin goods might carry a separate cess.
Pop Corn Minister - For every ₹1 that the middle class earns, ₹0.33 is deducted as income tax even before we receive it. Out of the remaining ₹0.66, 28% is taken as GST, and the rest is further eroded by fuel taxes, high interest rates on home and car loans, 45% taxes on car purchases, road taxes, car insurance taxes, highway tolls, health insurance taxes, medical expenses, school fees plus taxes, and luxury taxes on good clothing for the office. Even taking a small vacation becomes a burden with 28% tax on hotels and resorts and 28% tax on flights. After all these taxes, what do we get in return? Pothole-ridden roads, polluted air, poor infrastructure, inadequate education, and subpar healthcare and safety services. This government feels like a bloodsucker, constantly taking without providing adequate benefits to the middle class
Iski jagah multiplexes mein popcorn ke price pe cap lagane pe media tareef bhi karti na? Lootne mein lagi hai desh ko. Popcorn is being sold for 500 rupees (STARTING PRICE) in delhi multiplexes. A movie is made for 100s of crores and I watch it paying 50-100 rupees with PVR passport like options. But I can never eat popcorn. That 5 rupee cost popcorn is being sold at 100 times price for 500 rupees. You have taken away the fun of cinema for students and freshers. The biggest movie going community. Shame on PVR and Indian government.
Why is the government wasting so much money on GST council to decide tax on each food item? What a waste of taxpayers money. Instead, food items should just be either 5% blanket tax or not taxed at all. It’s just inefficient, minimum government, my ass! It’s just criminal the way taxation is right now in the country.
When we get our income we're taxed. When we buy a product with that already taxed money, we're taxed. The person who sold that product is also taxed for selling the product. The seller goes to grocery to buy something for himself also pays tax. The grocery also have to pay tax on that money. It goes on and on. Tax is the biggest scam in the world that goes unchecked.

Don't drink alcohol simply. Petroleum we can discuss.
Plain Underwear - 5% tax
Colour Underwear - 12% tax
Colour+printed Underwear - 18% tax
lastly citizens get torn underwear to wear ...which FM is least worried !!!
It’s high time that Nirmala resigns or is removed, she isn’t fit for the role, squeezing money out of middle class people, how long should we be silent and take her drama ????
Why should people pay tax? So that they can distribute to their votebanks. Farm income above 12lakh per annum should be taxable and freebies should be stopped. People don't want to work anymore. They keep searching google and youtube for end number of government schemes where they will get free money.
Even though im bjp supporter I literally hate this finance minister 😡
Why no GST on bus tickets and metro tickets. We can put 18% GST on salt, can water.
why fm is talking about pop corn ,,, this is a serious ...
We pay many taxes but get no benefit from it.
Plain Underwear - 5% tax
Colour Underwear - 12% tax
Colour+printed Underwear - 18% tax
lastly citizens get torn underwear to wear ...which FM is least worried !!!

There should be GST on FM too, when you tax everthing from basic essential items, why not tax FM too..
Finance Minister ❌
Tax Minister ✅
Miss Nirmala sitaraman , you are misusing your power unnecessery on the people of India .
Madam mixed cocktail popcorn kaisa?
Nimmy 😂😂😂😂please put tax for using toilet 🚽🚽🚽🧻too u can get 5 lakh crores in GST 🤦🏻

Shameless govt
Ask men to pay GST and give free money to women per month. Freebies ke liye tax ki bhik mangi ja rahi hai. Never expected this from you, BJP. Tax badane se government nhi chalta. Make your own government organisations profitable first.
Tax on Dead Body
What kind of FM is she??
Rubbish
iss sense se toh khatta meetha namkeen pe bhi 18% GST lagna chahiye
Mam one idea:

This Govt and BJP is obsessed with social media and memes. Of all things this FM is criticized for, she is here wasting entire country's time on discussion around popcorn because she saw some reel about media talking about popcorn tax.
Indian people asked for BJP..now time to suffer
I can't believe is this really happening.
She is eyeing even popcorn also. oh god somuch stinginess
GST Rates in India vs. Global Rates
India's GST Slabs: India has a multi-tier GST structure with rates of 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%, plus cess on luxury and sin goods. The 18% and 28% slabs are higher than the global average.
Global Comparisons:
Singapore: A single rate of 8%.
Australia: A single rate of 10%.
UK and EU: Standard rates hover around 20% but often have exemptions or reduced rates for essentials.
China: A standard rate of 13%.
Canada: 5% GST at the federal level, combined with provincial rates.
Why India's GST Rates Are Higher
Complex Structure:
Multiple slabs and frequent changes have led to compliance complexity, affecting businesses and consumers alike.
Impact of High GST Rates
Inflationary Pressure:
Higher rates on items like food and consumer goods contribute to increased retail prices, compounding inflation concerns.
Consumer Burden:
Indirect taxes like GST are regressive, disproportionately affecting lower-income groups.
Competitiveness:
High GST rates increase production and service costs, making Indian exports less competitive in the global market.
Compliance Costs:
Businesses face a high compliance burden due to complex filing requirements and frequent rule changes.
Comparison with Other Countries
Simpler Structures Elsewhere: Many countries have a single GST/VAT rate or two rates (standard and reduced for essentials), simplifying compliance and reducing disputes.
Exemptions for Essentials: In countries like Australia and Singapore, basic food items and essentials are exempt or taxed at a lower rate, which is not the case for many goods in India.
Potential Reforms for India’s GST
Rate Rationalization:
Move towards fewer slabs, ideally 2-3, to simplify the structure.
Reduce the highest slab of 28%, keeping luxury and sin goods under a separate cess.
Exemptions for Essentials:
Ensure that basic necessities have zero or minimal GST to ease the burden on common citizens.
Improved Compliance Framework:
Simplify filing procedures, especially for MSMEs, to reduce costs and increase participation.
Focus on Direct Taxes:
Broaden the direct tax base to reduce dependence on indirect taxes like GST.
Incompetent Finance minister of India
Make sure that you know what’s your popcorn flavour tax before you buy 😂😂
Thanks for the important update. Our falling economy might recover thanks to the caramel popcorn tax. 🙄
This woman will be the sole reason for BJP's downfall. The sooner she's kicked out the better.
Arun Jaitley's Vision for GST Reform
Fewer Slabs:
He suggested moving toward two or three slabs to make GST simpler and more predictable.
This was aligned with the long-term goal of a uniform tax structure to improve ease of compliance and reduce disputes.
Rationalization of Rates:
Jaitley believed that as the GST system stabilized and revenue collection increased, the higher slabs (28%) could be rationalized or merged into lower slabs.
Essential goods and services could remain in lower slabs, while luxury and sin goods might carry a separate cess.
She is not bothering about inflation and difficuties of middle class people
Pop Corn Minister - For every ₹1 that the middle class earns, ₹0.33 is deducted as income tax even before we receive it.
Please retire ❤
😂😂😂😂😂 poop tax pleasee😂😂😂😂😂
Taxing pop corn, lollipop, children's nappy, ice cream, and differentiating between caramel popcorn as against salted popcorn, where are we heading ?
Roadside popcorn is made by mixing sand and air, then filtering it, FM will be thinking, why don’t we tax air as she is taxing sand and popcorn? 🤔
When you add sugar in popcorn, it is no longer popcorn...it is badam halwa ...hence more gst ...😊
Fed up with such a disgrace finance minister.we feel she doesn't represent people . request to replace her at the earliest.
FM of union of India busy clarifying popcorn types and their GST rates 😂😂😂
