I'm Mexican, and believe me, no one was worried on "lack of representation" that day so it sucks that it turned into a thing here. It was Juneteenth, Kendrick had a whole list of people he chose for the occasion THAT MADE SENSE. It was not our day and that's ok. I love Kendrick and even being there that day at the Pop Up, I had no expectation or was looking to see what Latino's were there because that's not what that day was about. Respectfully, just sayin. Shout out to DJ Hed for his perspective on this and speaking on us being part of the Hip Hop Culture overall.
I respect that. An issue that we've been seeing is, the negative voices are often louder than the positive. One thing a lot of non black people can do is make your positive voices louder than the negative.
It sucks that those stupid mfs are used as some representation for us. They DO NOT SPEAK FOR US AT ALL.🇲🇽 I can’t even get mad when black people reply to those two idiots with some hateful stuff. Emotions get the best of us in the heat of the moment but at the end of the day, understand that its home team over anything weirdly racial 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I really hate the only way for me to hear 6:16 in LA is via reaction videos. Is there somewhere else it is available? I really hope they give him clearance at some point. I love that song! I loved Euphoria out the gate.
They was smart. They used a term that is now to sell their magazine. It worked. People even in disagreement still speak on it.They didn’t even think about LA artists or any other West coast artist.
Another cultural mistep that I don't see many people mention is Drake aligning himself with the Hells Angels MC club. That club is notoriously known for being connected to the Aryan nation. Heck even 17 members of it was charges with hate crimes in Cali in 2023. Like That dude is totally tone deaf.
I'm from New York and I love West Coast Hip-Hop the music tracks are incredible. I can't speak for all New Yorkers but West Coast got love here as well. Congratulations Hed on that monumental concert 👏🏾 Kendrick Lamar is a beast he is untouchable ❤❤❤
One really dope detail about Kendrick Lamar's Euphoria performance at the Juneteenth Pop Out show that I haven't seen anyone mention is that the song was sampled by a Teddy Pendergrass song which was played in one of my favorite classic movies "The Wood" during Roland's (Taye Diggs) wedding scene. The movie is called the Wood because the story takes place in IngleWOOD, CA. Inglewood happens to also be where Kendrick performs the song for the very first time ever 🤯🔥 not sure if that connection was intentional, but it's dope af.
DJ Hed was my favorite discovery in this beef. Love the show he does with Elliot, and watching him work on the Pop Out show was awesome. Keep it up West Coast. Cannot wait to see where it goes from here. From 🇿🇦
100% agree. The fact that was a line he could look at and think 'yeah, that'll get 'em' is the definition of obtuse. This was his second time recently mentioning slavery in a song, and Kendrick made sure to point it out when he said, "homie *doubled* down calling us some slaves." The song Drake had with SZA (Slime You Out), the first couple seconds of that track, he says, "got you whipped and chained like American Slaves." That was on his For All the Dogs album, and when I heard that part, I was like, "Nope, I'm done with this man as an artist now too." I was done with him as a person since 2014, but I held out because separate art from the artist, you know? but that part among a lot of what that whole album was about just put my opinion of him in the ground. Needless to say, I've been RELISHING this entire beef.😝
On top of all that I was surprised by the amount of songs Drake made addressing someone’s girlfriend, wife, or family members over the past 10 years. But yet….🤔 didn’t Drake meet his dad in the year 2010? I remember Drake saying he just met his dad in his speech on stage at the BET or Billboard Awards show. He definitely has family issues and goes right to family in his music against other rappers. In rap you don’t talk about family or loved ones unless you ready for the repercussions. Drake wasn’t ready for Kendrick’s repercussions.
Kendrick purposely said “you think the bay would let you disrespect pac ninja?” Because that bar itself showed this is about California as a whole. That bar was meant to include the bay and rest of California. Having e40 with his introduction was another reason to let the whole coast know it’s a west coast thing and e40 is an artist who he has repeatedly acknowledged as an influence. “I think the Oakland show gonna be your last stop ninja!” Again purposely showing unity. The bay and LA fuck with pac TOUGH. If you know you know! THIS TOOK PLACE IN THE SOUTH OF CALI, but the rest of Cali feels the vibe! Kdot made sure to make this a Cali vibe. I always hated how I was only 3 years old when pac died and was not able to experience his music and presence and even then I grew up on his music period! But man, I’m glad I’ve been able to experience another artist such as Kendrick who has given the same type of impact , to a certain extent, but he is still alive and able to do much more.
Salute to DJ Hed🫡 but Drake holding that Camilla record is the smartest thing he’s done. Dropping music with an artist that just a few years ago was nearly canceled for racists tweets, bullying Normani, calling her the N-word, and only apologizing after being forced…def not the best look for someone already being called a Colonizing Culture Vulture
They make sense together for all the reasons you listed, but they also can’t test the culture right now, for the same reasons you listed. She’s the “bird bihs” Kendrick has us singing about in NLU
45:23 Shout out to DJ Head for giving a Christian Rapper some love. Although, I’m no longer in the West my heart will always pump for Christside first and then the Westside.
