Fun fact that many don’t know: Eli Whitney was Actually anti Slavery and he made the cotton gin so people wouldn’t need slaves to do the work. But it backfired because now they could have slaves Pick the cotton and use the machines to Separate the Seeds from the cotton, more interesting is that Eli Never saw a penny made from the cotton gin and he died not knowing the mistake he made

Even more sad is that Slavery was actually on its way out naturally, It was dying because the Crop market had crash due to the industrial Revolution, so if eli didn’t make that mistake then maybe the civil war wouldn’t have happened or just not as grusome

I died at the part where we are pulled back to the tv room and Mexico is just like 'ugh this shit', like just pissed off but also completely done at the same time.
Some extra history, when the confederacy looked to Europe for help in the war there was much less chance then depicted for them getting involved. The primary reasons being the north was much more involved with European trade in particular grain and the worry of starting a war with the north. It also didn’t help that the confederacy placed all their hopes on intervention in return for their cotton and didn’t understand that cotton imports were easy enough for Europe to replace courtesy of the African colonies and the Ottoman Empire. Famously they completely misinterpreted a letter from the pope as a formal recognition of independence despite the pope not happy with the fact the southern diplomat sent outright refused any talk of emancipation.

Although slavery was a reason for the war. Another facter that is looked over is that the south wanted to use a different constitution than the north. The articals of confederation. Something the north used for a time. This caused the south especally the generals to go to war. At times the south could have taken the capitol but chose not to. Because they didnt want the north they just wanted to do thier own thing. Did that include slavery yes. But alot of confederate generals didnt aprove of slavery. Just look on you tube and youll see some interviews of confederate generals in 1930s

Hey since i think some of you guys are big into history i need help lee because keep seeing very resonable sources that lee disliked slavery but he cared more for the state but other say he liked slavery can you guys if you know give me a diffinative answer
yeah i got ya. lee absolutely made public statements condemning slavery as morally wrong and believed it would eventually die out but, even though lee believed that slavery was wrong in his statements, it’s shown that he believed it was a necessary evil that even he had no opposition in indulging in. he even at one point stated that slavery was a sort of necessary hardship that the slaves must face to move forward but wasn’t in a hurry to end it. he even owned quite a lot of slaves and he built up a reputation as quite a brutal and harsh slave master since he hated having to manage them. he did in fact free a group of slaves that his wife owned but he didn’t do it out of kindness. he did it because simply he didn’t want to deal with the hassle of managing them. it is true that he aligned himself with his state rather than outright slavery itself but he still didn’t really oppose it in any meaningful way.
