I remember being nine and reading an article on this series. I was so interested by it that I actually imported it from Japan. I really wish I hadn't sold my copy, as it not only is a game that I fondly remember, but a pretty damn good one at that.
Thank you so much for finally representing Starfy in a great light. Please review the amazing DS game , it's such a underrated gem. Anyways awesome review.
The Legendary Starfy had a US release on the DS, although I think it was a reworked version. I bought it for my daughter not too long ago. Sadly, she's since lost it.
I really love Starfy! It would be one of my favorite series if it weren't for the fact that I've only played the DS game... It is still high up there. I probably love it so much because Kirby is the greatest series of forever for all time always.
Imported the first two games for my nephew's DS Lite (since it's GBA compatible) a while ago. It is a shame that games like this don't make it this side of the pond. A thanks to you, CGR and Felicity for giving this franchise some much needed spotlight time.
I think it's because things have changed according to western audiences. What I mean is, Zelda has been one of the biggest names in the industry since the mid-1980's and when Skyward sword came out, everyone was playing Skyrim instead. In fact I think they praised Skyrim but faulted Skyward Sword for being "much of the same". So I think it's because Japanese games don't sell like they used to that we don't get that many games unless it's a franchise that's been around for a long while.
I speak a little Japanese, although I'm still a beginner taking Elementary Japanese at college. I was able to read and understand some of the Japanese dialog in the game, though
Why in the world is this video flagged? Well, aside from that, this looks like a really interesting game. I'd buy it, but I feel like I'd be missing out on a lot of the quirky characters because I don't speak Japanese. And apparently only one Starfy game has been released outside of Japan.
Bought the game for the DS (it made it to the US under the title 'The Legendary Starfy'). It's definitely worth a purchase, and it packs a LOT into a handheld. Very easy title, though.
I've only played the one that got released in America but yeah, it's a pretty nice series, I don't get why Nintendo never released them before.. It's pretty rare that we have 1st party games exclusively in Japan nowadays...
Yep, gonna have to give this game a go now! I could have sworn I'd played this on the Genesis, maybe there was one for Genesis? Oh well, GBA here I come.
I should become a video game reviewer. Just get people to send me games. I'd get my collection started finally. Been trying to get GBA games, but no where near me has them anymore, and I don't really do Online buying very often if I can help it. So it hasn't been easy getting GBA games. I have a few, most of which I got ages ago when my Gamestop still had GBA games. On a video-related topic. I think this is the kind of thing that GBA did best. Fairly simple games that look and feel like an SNES game. When they tried pre-rendered realistic 3D graphics and realistic textures and stuff, it barely ever worked, and usually looked like crap.
well, if its at all encouraging for you... Ebay has rarely ever failed me (with the few rare exceptions of a game getting lost in the mail which the seller has always been nice enough to either replace the game or refund me) I'd say give it a whirl! start collecting from the internet, you wont regret it :)
I'm playing this right now. I'm stuck on the whale part. I talked to the crabs and the weird plankton things. I can't read Japanese so.. can someone help :-(
I was watching this video when I saw that right next to the vid I saw rockmans soccer and when isaw it I thougt '' why didn't he review megamans soccer instead cause its the same game ''
MORE STARFY IN AMERICA THUMBS UP IF YOU AGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CatFox 👍
Never even played Starfy yet I agree

That's actually The Legendary Starfy 5, but since they never released the other ones, it's just called The Legendary Starfy.
Thank you so much for finally representing Starfy in a great light. Please review the amazing DS game , it's such a underrated gem. Anyways awesome review.
When you say "Stafy" in Japanese, it sounds like Starfy, depending on what your accent is :)
The music and sound effects are VERY Famicom-y! I have the domestic DS game. This is making me want to get back into it. Thanks for the great video.

I was looking for a game to translate into English and found this game. It's awesome so far.
This one honestly looks and sounds like it has more personality than the one we got on the DS.
I really love Starfy! It would be one of my favorite series if it weren't for the fact that I've only played the DS game... It is still high up there. I probably love it so much because Kirby is the greatest series of forever for all time always.
Why this game is never release in the us I really went to play this game but I can’t understand japanesse

All the Starfy games are REALLY similar. You will barely tell the difference.
The Clam name is Moe
Jesus christ. It's like someone weaponized cuteness.
"The Cliffhanger - Edward Randy", if you can get this game for your MAME machine (you do have one, right?), I'm sure you'll love it Mark!
2:14 is it really a relaxing experience on the hole?

There was a DS Starfy game that was brought to NA.
I don't think this came to the US till it came out on the DS
in mario and luigi superstar saga (GBA) theres a poster of this game in one of the areas, wow i was wondering were this was from :D
The fifth one was released in North America and Australia called "The Legendary Starfy"
I have it, and theres proof on the wikipedia page! :D
Bought the game for the DS (it made it to the US under the title 'The Legendary Starfy'). It's definitely worth a purchase, and it packs a LOT into a handheld. Very easy title, though.
This game must be played!
Loving the Show.
Didn't the one on DS get localized? And does it have the same name as this game?
I've only played the one that got released in America but yeah, it's a pretty nice series, I don't get why Nintendo never released them before.. It's pretty rare that we have 1st party games exclusively in Japan nowadays...
Whoo HOO! I'm looking forward to more Japanese GBA import reviews!
This should be released over in the West. ITs adorable and origional , I wish Nintendo would be a bit more daring
There is one Starfy game that did came out State-side for the DS. As good as the GBA ones.
'flying underwater', or as it's more commonly known, 'swimming'.
I need that mug , crazy eyed announcer voice guy
it has a subtitle in the Japanese version
You didn't pronounce Worcester right Mark, but we still love you. It's pronounced Woostersher.
Man, i need one of those mugs lol you should also make a t-shirt that says ''burn people with monsters and cut them in half!''

They're donated and added to the games library of the Intergalactic Space Arcade for the glory of Lord Karnage.

Classic Game Room rocks!
Some of the creatures remind me of Rodland and Robocod. Cute little game!
Does Starfy know Wind Squid or Ristar?
Yep, gonna have to give this game a go now! I could have sworn I'd played this on the Genesis, maybe there was one for Genesis? Oh well, GBA here I come.

In all my years, ive never seen this series
The star is so cute, especially when he dances!
This game looks interesting. Maybe I'll buy it one day.

There's actually a Starfy Game for DS i loved it. still own it.

These games are great. It's too bad they are a bit too easy.
I also like how it has several 8-bit sound effects, despite being capable of 32-bit.
get klonoa 2 on the ps2 if you get the chance, great game. check the cgrundertower review of it.
gba games are good too, they're dirt cheap
Do people who send in games get them back? Or are they literately giving them to mark lol?
One of the best games I ever played
I know man, but seriously being a fan is not about shoving it into everyone´s faces. C´mon, it´s a goddamn game about a STAR!
I'm enjoying Brandish: The Dark Revenant (PSP even though it's only in Japanese
Mr clams name is Moe. :)
Starfy's like a Fusion of Ristar and Kirby
I'm playing this right now. I'm stuck on the whale part. I talked to the crabs and the weird plankton things. I can't read Japanese so.. can someone help :-(
God your voice is magical, like starfy.
Sometime they are loans, but typically they are donated!
Yeah. I have lived in Japan for the past 12 years.
I like the Mega Clam. That's the best character.
They give them to Mark, like a donation.
Starfy is an assist character in ssbb
I 99% sure that Starfy makes an appearance on Super Smash Bros Brawl. Not sure what he does though...he kinda just walk left and right the goes away.
Aww... so cute. I think there's a version for the DS too
They need to port this to the iPod/iPad! XD
Wow that is some good animation.
At first I thought Mr. Clam was a hamburger. I think we should call it Clamburger.
Did you ever make it to the end of Klonoa?
This game makes me want fly a flaming unicorn made of rainbow Jell-o through the sun
That is AWESUM! :D Thanks for that.
I'm currently learning Japanese :)
The only reason I recognize the main character is SSBB.
It's not too obsucre, it made an appearance in Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Oh yeah? Link travels to the insides of a giant ass fish.
Ristar... the early years???
So kind of like how Sega has never released a Hatsune Miku Game in America! (Besides the IPhone, IPad, and IPod Touch Apps)
Beam me up Mark, I'll bring my own beer
I like relaxing experiences on the hole
I wonder if Starfy knows Patrick Star
His name is Moe.
I was watching this video when I saw that right next to the vid I saw rockmans soccer and when isaw it I thougt '' why didn't he review megamans soccer instead cause its the same game ''
It is in America and I have it
It's a DS game over here
Starfy looks ripped as shit.
This is the first game. I thought the DS game was the third one and not a remake...
now we know where de lumas from super mario galaxy came from

its not a remake, its the 5th game in the series.
The DS I got it 4 years ago
