Reactions while watching Batman Returns: **clears throat** As a little kid: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! THAT GUY IS SCARY!!!!! Now: Danny DeVito looks so ugly. Whoa! Did Batman just kill those guys?! OMG! This is Batman? But... Batman doesn't kill. Ugh. I watched this film to see Batman not Penguin. God lee. Catwoman looks sexy. *facepalm* OMG! That guy just got blown up. BATMAN KILLS! Whoa that is dark. END?! I WANT MOAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dad: *snores*
Oh God Batman 2 would have been a mess if they used the original script. Thank God for Tim Burton and Michael Keaton for saving that movie which it became the Batman Returns that we all know loved. And yes Tim Burton's Batman Returns is my all time favourite movie
ProMonarchyGenius agreed. I've always loved Returns Penguin. It's what made me love the character. I love all the versions, but I always loved his interpretation the most. My favorite Batman movie. But this is a movie that people watch differently. People just see two completely different movies. Some see a bland all style no substance movie, and others see a beautiful emotional character movie about tortured people. It's a movie that has a deeper message and theme that being: monsters aren't born, they are created. All three leads are victims of circumstance, and although they obviously have free will, they have been dealt extreme harsh hands and you see where it takes each of them. Batman obviously harnesses his pain to do good, and the other two are taken down darker paths...and understandably so. I think the issue many have, whether they know it exactly or not, is with Burton's style. It's not really traditional. He doesn't lay it all out for you in the script like a Nolan movie. There aren't long speeches to tell you how the characters feel. But he uses the score, lighting, and most importantly the actors faces to speak louder than words. Some people don't get that, and don't catch it because it's not standard (and that's OK by the way). We are used to literally being "told" more. But Keaton's face in particular in these movies tells you so much. I always get the feels when watching this movie. Selena's apartment transformation scene, the ball scene, catwoman and batman in the sewer, and the penguins death all hit me. I always found this to be a beautiful albeit dark movie.
David Pesci I agree with you. Tim Burton does not direct by numbers like Christopher Nolan. I do get the feels with Batman Returns and that is why I love the movie.
That's how royalties work. If you cast someone in a role, have contracts already done, but things don't work and your character isn't used, than you still get paid. Shalaine Woodly still got/gets paid for her MJ role in Amazing Spider-Man 2 since they didn't use her.
Contrary to what you said around 38 mins, I watched the entire thing and was enthralled the entire time. Thank you so much for talking about this. I was always curious about where the movie could have gone or might have gone if things had been a little different.
@Ghost Warrior 38 ngl, it is kinda relatable. There's always that frustrating situation where that one loved one is allergic, so they're unintentionally keeping you from your love of animals
Incredible Batlore video for tonight's Arkham Wednesday very insightful. The original idea for Batman Returns as Batman 2 is very interesting. I think it would have been fantastic to see a younger Robin than O'Donnell's Robin in Forever/Batman and Robin. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year's everyone.
Q: how do feel about christian bale admitting to being jealous that ben affleck was the new batman and that he wont be batman again? did you ever feel this way? Keaton: no, ya know why? because I'M BATMAN, that i'm sure of.
Those alternate screen plays to Batman Returns, sound like they could have been really good movies ... who knows if they would have turned out that way in the end, if they were chosen. Also, I hope you get better and try not to push yourself too hard, well getting better.
Love this. Never knew any of this. Great job. Please make more. I can listen for how ever long you wanna talk. Micheal Keaton is Batman and I woukd love to see him in more batman movies.
I just re-watched Batman '89 yesterday, and I still think it is the definitive Batman film, eat your heart out Nolan fans. Even though I was born in 1997, I still think Michael Keaton is the definitive Batman for the silver screen. I also prefer Jack Nicholson to Heath Ledger. Nicholson was just a laugh riot in the film, and that's what I loved so much about his Joker from Ledger's. Don't get me wrong I respect Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker, but he just didn't feel like Joker to me. Joker is all about killing people with a smile on his face, but Ledger's Joker was just a little too psychotic for my taste. Jack Nicholson got the killing people with a smile on his face down to a tee though in Batman 89. One of my favorite parts of the film is when he shows that commercial for Smile-ex, that was just hilarious.
Alfred is so cool because he doesn't mind that he is working for a person that spends his days and nights running around gotham dressed as a bat. And if said person adopts a child and gives him a bright costume to distract the bad guys he'll just put up with it because he's ALFRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jack Napier became the joker in the 1989 Batman movie. Merry Christmas Kwing and Kwife! Suggestion for future Arkham Wednesday: The Sewer King (from early first season of Batman The Animated Series who had a number of street children working for him).
Great vid kwing lots of good and crazy stuff could've happened in batman returns that it would have been an insane batman movie but of course we got the final version of batman returns hope you have and great christmas kwing =) !
That batman 2 script was way to comic bookish. It would work on a comic book as a good else world story but in a cinematic film no it will not. I agree on Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne old one to make a Batman beyond movie
My biggest issue with this Batman is there wasn't any Character Development for Batman out of nowhere not killing from Batman Forever to Batman and Robin, also Batman comes off as a complete hypocrite in Returns when he tells Catwoman killing is wrong when he killed earlier in that same film and his own actions is responsible for the death of Penguin. I wouldn't have any problem with Batman coming to the conclusion that killing is wrong, but there needs to be real Character Development. I'm in the process of writing of my own version of Batman Year One and I start off with Batman killing, but by the end my story he realizes killing is wrong, but there's legit Character Development as to why he comes to this conclusion... not coming off as a hypocrite or dropping it for absolutely no reason, because let's take a look at this Batman's track record... In the 1989 film Batman kills a factory full of people with a bomb, he kills one of Joker's henchmen, then is responsible for the Joker's death. In Returns Batman puts a bomb on a strong-arm blowing him up, then lights a guy on fire from his Batmobile (Sure he may live, but he'll never be the same), then he's responsible for Penguin's death. In Forever Batman dodges an RPG, causing it to blow up a car full of Two Faces henchmen (Technically you could say Batman didn't know they were there, but he say them and was in a chase with Batman during that scene), then he's responsible for Two Faces death. Then all of a sudden for no reason, he no longer kills and we get no explanation for it either... so there's no character development for Batman not killing. Stuff like that really bothers me.
Well since this is a different script that you're reading Bruce having a allergic to cats guess he's a dog person if you watch Batman Beyond in the episode Ace in the hole and play Batman Arkham Knight Bruce has a dog named Ace and there's a dog food bowl in the tower of Wayne enterprise really watched Batman Beyond where there's a flashback of Bruce finding and adopting the dog Ace.
There's so much of the original script I wish actually made into the final product, from the orphan society/use of 12-year old Dick Grayson to the use of Selena being an animal activist and still having Isis as a partner in crime. However, I think the murdering should still be subtle rather than blatant blood and gore on screen. Merry Christmas, K-Wing! Hope you get over your bronchitis very soon!
Honestly, the one thing I didn't like about the Burton/Keaton Batman films was that Batman openly killed people. That's it, that's the one thing that bothers me about them! At least Batman Begins tried to explain why it was OK for him to not save Ra's ("I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you"). Also, one of my earliest Christmas memories was getting Batman Returns on VHS (remember those!?). Since then, it's become a small tradition of mine to watch it every Christmas Day. Because nothing says "Christmas" like attempting to kidnap and kill all the first born kids because you had shitty parents.
Hey kwing I just got batman arkham origins, Lego batman 2, and watch dogs for Christmas and well watch dogs is glitchy, arkham origins is pretty good and Lego batman 2 is cool all of them is for ps3 and I know you've said before that arkham origins is better on the wiiu but I don't have a wiiu soo yeah anyways happy holidays from a long time fan :3
Hey k-wing did you know rocksteady announced that they are releasing batman Arkham knight can you make a walkthrough of it and if you pre-order it you can as Harley Quinn and get a prototype batmobile.
Wow some people would really say Burton's Bat man films are better than the Nolans ones. And to say they are soulless is ridiculous. Yea not a fan that Bat man killed in Burton's films at all.
The way catwoman comes across in this scripted sounds rather simpler to what Infinite Crisis is hinting at for gaslight catwoman. I would not mind seeing a gotham by gaslight film like this. :D

You got to remember that Batman before he had a Robin he killed people in the comics.
YungProdigy13 nice
YungProdigy13 also same
I don't have a problem with Batman kill.
Oh God Batman 2 would have been a mess if they used the original script. Thank God for Tim Burton and Michael Keaton for saving that movie which it became the Batman Returns that we all know loved. And yes Tim Burton's Batman Returns is my all time favourite movie
***** Nolan's movies are just soulless and preachy and just plain boring and they are no where near as dark as Batman Returns
***** The Penguin from Batman Returns is the only version of that character I like. Tim Burton made Batman Returns too good to be just a Batman movie
ProMonarchyGenius agreed. I've always loved Returns Penguin. It's what made me love the character. I love all the versions, but I always loved his interpretation the most. My favorite Batman movie. But this is a movie that people watch differently. People just see two completely different movies. Knightwing I just want to thank you for being a you tuber covering the best topic of them all BATMAN
Np, thanks for watching =)
the joker
He does.
the joker
Alright... that's cool.
the joker
I know how it feels
I think I like batman movie better
Contrary to what you said around 38 mins, I watched the entire thing and was enthralled the entire time. Thank you so much for talking about this. I was always curious about where the movie could have gone or might have gone if things had been a little different.
Christian Bale dodged a bullet, campiest bullet in the world.
Awesome video man! Great insight into what could've been. Would love to hear what was planned for Batman 3... Make it happen!
Do this for Batman Forever please!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Nope
He never will
I think the reason they changed Penguin so drastically was because Joker was a mob boss in the first one and they wanted it to be different
Anybody notice the irony of Catwoman's claustrophobia, considering cats always try to get into tight spaces.
Batman being Alegric to cats is also ironic because catwoman is his love intrest
@Ghost Warrior 38 ngl, it is kinda relatable. There's always that frustrating situation where that one loved one is allergic, so they're unintentionally keeping you from your love of animals
You can't murder in self-defence ^^
You can accidentally murder in self defense
"product placement was out of control"-knightwing01 " we gotta pay for this movie somehow"-papa Acachala
a lot of these things sound much more awesome than what we got in the actual film

I think Returns had the most depth out of all the Batman film.
Those alternate screen plays to Batman Returns, sound like they could have been really good movies ... who knows if they would have turned out that way in the end, if they were chosen. Also, I hope you get better and try not to push yourself too hard, well getting better.

Kwing and Kwife, how's it going, guys? Happy belated holidays, and thanks for releasing the info on this movie!
Bale said it himself that he didn't try out for the robin role.
Jack Napier became the joker in the 1989 Batman movie.
Merry Christmas Kwing and Kwife!
Suggestion for future Arkham Wednesday: The Sewer King (from early first season of Batman The Animated Series who had a number of street children working for him).
It's Jack Napier btw, Joker is called Jack Napier in 89's Batman movie.
How to make a good movie 🍿: make main character lose all the time and finally win or make them win all the time and then lose
You uploaded this on Christmas Day for me and many others
Idk why but I'm up for Keaton being old Bruce in a Batman Beyond type thing or Frank Milller thing.
Thx for sharing this info with
me I would have not found this most likely and I like the new intro
Glad you're back kwing
Merry Christmas, everyone! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

i thought Thomas Eliot first appeared in 2003
That batman 2 script was way to comic bookish. It would work on a comic book as a good else world story but in a cinematic film no it will not. I agree on Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne old one to make a Batman beyond movie

Stuff like that really bothers me.
But in the end it was Batman's actions that caused The Joker's death, which makes responsible.
Hi kwing! I just hope you note... My favourite super hero is also nightwing! Digital high five!
I'm a big fan of yours and I wish you a merry Christmas and a great new year
Did Thomas Elliot even exist when this script was written?
He did but he was not super popular like he is know Jim Lee kinda made Tommy who he was when he created during him in 2003 with Batman Hush

Merry Christmas, K-Wing! Hope you get over your bronchitis very soon!

Sounds like it could have been a MUCH better Batman Returns. But I do still enjoy it for what it is.
