My man, you are a guru. So much depth to your analysis, I can't believe I'm still discovering new things through your videos. Appreciate your work and can't wait to see what's in store for S2. Holy shit I can't believe it's actually almost time
Max, this channel is incredible. I’ve been binge watching your uploads the last 24 hours. So excited I found your channel and I can’t wait to watch season two, alongside with you.
Irving's paintings don't mean he's been in the elevator to the "testing floor". It means he's sent people there. It's from the point of view looking at the elevator when the red light goes on, pointing down.
😮 I sometimes do this in order to avoid my night-time routine a little longer, out of laziness or being tired. I'll be sleepy but I know I can't go to sleep until I do the dishes, wipe the counter tops, brush my teeth, facial skincare and shower. Going to bed unclean gives me insomnia and I hate waking up to a dirty kitchen so it's a push and pull between 'I don't want to do it right now and I can't sleep or wake up to this in the morning' - I often find myself showering at 2am or doing the dishes at midnight 😅.
The shot of Milchick at the end of the testing floor hall is, perhaps, the most exquisite in the entire show. His face is so blacked out by shadow that one could be think themselves staring into the unloving hollow under the hood of the grim reaper, and that is exactly the case. Visually, narratively, metaphorically, cinematically ✨perfect✨.
First off, thank you so much HaxDogma for doing these deep-dives. I can’t stop thinking about this show and I love that others feel the same way-enough so to make videos as long as the episodes themselves! Second: I wish I thank the creators and incredible people who worked on this show for the INSANE level of detail and attention that went into every single scene. From the dialogue to the set pieces, they created a world that they weren’t even sure (but I’m sure they hoped) people like you and us would take the time to microanalyze, piece by piece. My hat’s off to everyone involved in the creation of the show and analyzing it still almost 3 years later! I cannot WAIT for season 2 in just a couple weeks!!!
What is "the board" is a circuit board or motherboard. The thing the chips all connect to holding chips containing severed minds. Also the "break room" then might be also be seen as a circuit breaker. Resetting the severed works when they trip.
I think Mark’s elusiveness is due to the fact that he’s been a drunk shut in since Gemma’s passing. As Earl said “I don’t like shit, I don’t go outside.”

Really dig the channel. As you were discussing Kier, I thought, "what would a hybrid business-cult look like irl ?" Tech Bros. Adam Neumann. Elon. Elizabeth Holmes. SBF. Books like Rich Dad Poor Dad. Churches like Saddleback or the Potter's House that are essentially corporations. Even the ritualistic nature of reality show competition, complete with judging "liturgy" we've all subconsciously memorized (like, such as: Two models stand before me...but I only have one photo....). Tribal Councils. Final Judgment Panels. Literal games with thrones and musical demigods like on "the Voice." Even something like Squid Game could be read as a religio-corporate pogrom. The "refinement" of an unclean population. I guess we humans really are wired to seek out worship and ritual of some kind, religious or otherwise.
Wiles is defined as devious or cunning strategies employed to manipulate or persuade someone to do your bidding. In the episode after Petey dies, Cobel and Grainer discuss the need to get Petey’s chip back. Grainer clearly doesn’t want anything to do with further efforts now that Petey has died. After Grainer leaves, we hear Cobel recite the nine principles as she tries to figure out a solution and she lands on wiles. It’s interesting that Kier would include that as a core principle. This scene made me wonder exactly how the integration process works. Cobel appears to need the chip to prove to the board that integration is possible. Since the chip wasn’t removed there must be a way to permanently deactivate it somehow. However if that’s possible I would think Lumon would be aware of it. I hope we learn more about reintegration in Season 2. My prior theory was that Mark gets reintegrated before returning to Lumon to rescue Gemma, however the trailers suggest Mark is still his Innie persona when he returns. If he was reintegrated he would know whether the newspaper stories Milcheck shows him are bogus but in the scene Mark is telling the MDR team (original team) about the news stories and doesn’t appear to have any outside knowledge.
Radar uses radio waves and doesn't make a sound. (I'm not science-y and had to look it up to confirm it for myself 😊) The pinging sounds we associate with submarines are sonar.
32:42 "The Elusive Mark" sounds like a chapter in a con artist's handbook lol. Also it could be "ilusive" as in illusion, not knows what real or not, a re-integrated Mark would be really be ilusive. But seriously this a great catch. Mark is pretty guarded, he uses sarcasm to deflect his real emotions and also he's evading capture by Lumon as accomplice in Graner's murder. It's ironic that Lumon is stressing about what happened to Graner, while the accomplice is right under the noses. He is elusive in many ways. Kind of a scary thought. What if you commit a crime while severed? You would never know and could never be interrogated because in a way, it wasn't you that commited the crime. Great videos! You really have me engaging with shows ideas in a deeper way.
Oh I love the "ilusive" idea, it really could be that! I hope we see a severed person committing a crime this new season and them having to deal with the moral consequences. Such an interesting dilemma, good idea.
Cannot wait to start geeking out over the details we;ll be seeing as Season 2's episodes go by, one by one... theorising as the show runners forsaw it!! :D
I love your analysis. One thing I’m Wondering… when you mentioned that Irving is painting the testing floor hallway because he’s been to the floor, I also wonder if he has been in a position like Milchick. I truly believe he has been to the testing floor and that many of the chip functions have been tested on him (clean slate for one); I also think the only way he could paint the hallway and the elevator arrow above the elevator doors is by witnessing someone else being sent down there. Can’t wait for your episode 9 deep dive!
I fully believe Irving could have been in Mr. Milchick's position long before everybody else got there. Even if it's not that, him getting the clean slate protocol before the events of Season One, I think it's pretty likely. Something is going on with him, and I need to know more haha Thanks Katshea! :D
Keeping the departments separated would help in resetting a person and moving them to a different department. Before MDR and O&D became aquatinted, they could have reset Mark, and moved him to O&D - nobody would have questioned it. But Milchek seems to reach multiple departments Moving him to MDR seems unlikely. That begs the question - knowing how the innies are treated, what would cause Irving to switch to a severed role from a position of power?
The Lexington Letter insinuates the MDR files may be linked to real world attacks on Lumon competitors, could the breakroom apology be them preparing the group to be a scapegoat if they're caught later?
YES PLS do a video on Mr milkshake as a possible betrayer/double agent 🙌🏽 also I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with Irv’s outtie painting the testing floor elevator, but I am dying to know what trauma his innie suffered down there !! it’s got to be some type of new horror if it’s bleeding + blurring across his consciousness 🤯
I've been wondering if trauma memories are something that can linger between innie and outtie, in some subconscious way. That's what I've been reading from Irving's paintings, as you've said. Also, Irving's innie is a stickler for rules whilst his outtie is someone who appears to have an 'outside of the lines' attitude, no doubt shaped by events in his much longer time alive. What events are these???
I wonder if Cobel's obsession with Gemma and Mark is to do with the possibility of whatever tech was used to bring Gemma back, could be used to bring the person Cobel mourns the loss of back (i.e. the name on the breathing tubes she clings to). If Gemma and Mark remember each other or develop similar feelings for each other as their outties experienced, then Cobel might be hoping there's a chance she could somehow salvage a part of whomever it is she's lost, in some form. I'm not sure how Gemma was brought back; Lumon acquired her body, or perhaps cloned her, or a robot (I really don't like this idea!). This would certainly explain Cobel's reaction to being fired, she didn't just lose a job, but the hope of reconnecting with this lost person of hers.
@@ionaaaaaaa :) I only thought of it today while rewatching the last episode... it occurred to me why Cobel was so upset (at being fired. I mean you'd be upset, but not THAT upset) and the interaction with Milcheck, calling the fact that they both didn't remember each other 'a win'. She looked devastated that they didn't remember each other... it didn't make sense since she's such a 'company person'... she has her own motive. Such a great show!
Maybe the Myrtle Eagan school is like something like the Lebensborn Program, and Cobel is an Eagan. Definitely seems like something a megalomaniac would do.
31:31 Kier could have adopted her from her dying mom or funded her schooling. I think…wasn’t he alive then or did he die in 1939? Or maybe someone from Lumon adopted her because they knew her mom? Spitballing here!
At 36:04 this screen shows Lawrence F and Mark F greyed out (and Katrina F a couple spots down). At 36:19 this chip screen shows the same two names greyed out as before (and Helly R in the space Katrina F was in, lit up). I think this implies greyed out names are no longer employed with Lumon. Edit: Never mind, Burt G throws a wrench in that. Must be dead, or they still have plans for Burt.
18:10 "the board HAS concluded the call". It should be "have". Unless it's one person... this is a precisely scripted show so I'd bet it's at the very least a nod to your point about something being fishy despite us seemingly having heard from the board....
I like this. The voice heard from the "board" sounds very laboured and breathy. Whoever is speaking, isn't in great shape and maybe that's why they talk through Natalie.
She said that normally for American English. We don't really do notional agreement here. It exists, but since the board is a singular noun, it wouldn't be unusual to say has. It's like how our sports announcers wouldn't usually say "Boston are going to the championship" but elsewhere it would be normal to say something like "England are in last place this year"
Do you think there's anything to it always being snow-covered on the outside? I guess we don't know what amount of time passes between Episode 1 and Episode 9. And we also don't know if Mark is away for 5 months between seasons (I doubt it). But there's always snow on the ground and it's twilight when they leave and arrive to work. That's winter. Even cold parts of the world have more light in the summer months even if it still snows.
I think Irvin is actively trying to interact with his innie. I believe this because of the documents his innie found in his house showing he was keeping record of the severed employees. I think he tries to keep himself up because he knows it will interfere with his innie. Given he is painting the elevator that Ms Casey went on I have a feeling this isn't his first time. Maybe he has been recycled for previous behaviors. I think he and Burt have some previous connection since he has his name on the map in large letters
great discussion, lots of cool connections! Similar to people's misunderstanding of Kegan, people seem to have a wack understanding of eastern religions, buddha never wanted a religion, nor his name to be capitalized lol...in fact dude was the anthesis of it...literally said don't pray to anyone or anything, so I think you're actually onto something here!!...kegan himself might be like..."wtf bro...why you go through my search history and take it all so literally..." lol
.... And also... Bit depth, uplink..🤯... Streaming bro. Also PID indicates a control loop. I reckon its remote intelligence running on a mainframe somewhere etc etc. I mean, technically that's nonsense but it's not a coincidence they put that info there....
@haxdogma Please may you address why Adam Scott looks different, especially as his Innie Self? I don't know if he's wearing prosthetics or it's just the bleak lighting but his face shape is not the same in reality. In the show there are jowels and dimples around his mouth that he doesn't have IRL. He looks a bit like the wax sculptures of the Eagens in the Perpetuity Wing. The others don't have that look. Any thoughts? I love your videos and the in depth research you put into each one + delving into philosophies/moral consequences and far more. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos for us!
Thank you so much Larry! I have never deeply considered his face inside the show versus in reality. Let me sit with this through the next video and see if I can add a note about this. Thanks friend :D
There is quite a bit of chat about it online. Reddit and other such sites. There's a clear difference between his look in the show and in interviews he has done recently and when they filmed if you wanted to take a look. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks so much for taking it into consideration :)
Idk that much about it but didn't King James also make the bible for the masses so anyone could read it? Prior to that the bibles were written in Latin and could only be read by Priests and scholars.
Love your videos! Just a note: there are actually religions that don’t proselytise. What you were speaking of are universalising religions, I.e. Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. Ethnic religions don’t proselytise, those are Judaism, Native American religions, Hinduism and others. Universalising religions offer believe systems for all, while ethnoreligions are designed for the „the in-group“. Your point still stands though, kier-ism seems to be some kind of Christian messiah cult.
Ms.Cobel's stated on mr. Garner and kier could be a biblical reference to God and Jesus Christ sitting on the right hand with God. Just a little theory.
Happy new year I live in Georgetown. Thanks for your posts. If you ever want to do a local meetup group in the area. Let me know! Would love to chat about the new season. 😊

😮 BBWB: Oh FINALLY! 😏
We Out Here
27:02 That’s crazy! I had no idea that was the point of the waffle party 🤯🤯🤯
Love you (not weird)
It was your bff Ben Stiller who gave you that cold let’s be real
great discussion, lots of cool connections!
Omg you got to see the ravens and Texans play at a Beyoncé concert
Round Rock!! ♥️
I believe Glasgow might be referring to the Glasgow Coma Scale 🤔 it's used to measure a person's level of consciousness after a brain injury
LOCKED IN.
What's the opening music?
It’s “Chinese Surfer” by Kava Kon, Apple Music has a severance “defiant jazz” playlist with it!
31:11 harmony has a jester mask…did she dance waffle parties once?
.... And also... Bit depth, uplink..🤯... Streaming bro. Also PID indicates a control loop. I reckon its remote intelligence running on a mainframe somewhere etc etc. I mean, technically that's nonsense but it's not a coincidence they put that info there....
Agreed!
@haxdogma
Please may you address why Adam Scott looks different, especially as his Innie Self?
Prior to that the bibles were written in Latin and could only be read by Priests and scholars.
subconscious bleed like Assassin's Creed lol also @34:00 what?????
LMFAO
Love your videos! Just a note: there are actually religions that don’t proselytise. What you were speaking of are universalising religions, I.e. Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. Ethnic religions don’t proselytise, those are Judaism, Native American religions, Hinduism and others. Universalising religions offer believe systems for all, while ethnoreligions are designed for the „the in-group“. Your point still stands though, kier-ism seems to be some kind of Christian messiah cult.
Great info mrmr, really appreciate that note actually!
Hey! I'm in the Montgomery County area! I'll be down to sit next talk about the show@

wtf were you thinking when you said Buddha through force? If you don't want t be enlightenment, then don't follow. We never said anything about catholics.
Who?
@ watch 8:14 😏. How dare you make a comparison like so.
