Well there's one thing you can't lose
It's that feel
Your pants, your shirt, your shoes
But not that feel.
You can throw it out in the rain
You can whip it like a dog
You can chop it down like an old dead tree
You can always see it
When you're coming into town
Once you hang it on the wall
You can never take it down
But there's one thing you can't lose
And it's that feel
You can pawn your watch and chain
But not that feel
It always comes and finds you
It will always hear you cry
I cross my wooden leg
And I swear on my glass eye
It will never leave you high and dry
Never leave you loose
It's harder to get rid of than tattoos
But there's one thing you can't do
Is lose that feel
You can throw it off a bridge
You can lose it in a fire
You can leave it at the altar
But it will make you out a liar
You can fall down in the street
You can leave it in the lurch
Well you say that it's gospel
But I know that it's only church
And there's one thing you can't lose
And it's that feel

How Waits co-wrote this with Keith Richards is an interesting story. Waits, who only composes with his wife, was in the studio and having a difficult time with the guitar part of some other song. His assistant asked if he wanted anything (food?) and Waits responded in jest "Yeah, get me Keith Richards." A while later his assistant returned and confirmed that Richards would be there in a few days. Waits yelled "no, I was kidding!," but could not think of a way to uninvite Richards. "That Feel" resulted.
Makes sense that Keith cowrote this one. It partially sounds like it could be a Rolling Stones ballad.
@@iamdamosuzuki_ I honestly can't see Mick Jagger do this song justice.
that's great thanks for sharing
This man helped me through the worst part of my life. The music still speaks to me..
Oh snap, what was going on
I remember graduating with a useless bachelors' degree in music composition and going to work at Wal-Mart on the night shift, a naive, idealistic 22 year old... but at least I could listen to Tom Waits in one earphone alone in the back of the stockroom...
he always helped me too!
Tom Waits..... While I Enjoy///;
You're Dreams can take you where you want to be.... Dream ON......
Cross my wooden leg and I swear on my glass eye...
Let's be grateful and enjoy their work while we can.
Keith's harmonising. damn gets me every time
The Stones were relevant as long as Mick and Keith sang on the same songs, which was a long time.
"It's harder to get rid of than tattoos..." 🖤
Tom and Keith.... This is better than that fing credit card commercial.... PRICELESS!!!
The greatest songwriter of all time.

One thing you can't lose, and it's that feel
You can't lose, and it's that feel
The part this Grandmother loves most about this particluar song... is that it is Linguistically Ambiguious!! Yet almost everyone agree's it is about a "sad" feeelng... is this accurracte.. because to this one alone, "That Feeling I cannnot Lose" is WONDERFUL :)
Avery Kates
I would say it’s more than sad, it’s a tormenting feeling...thus he’s lamenting he can’t lose it no matter what
No, how can it be a sad feeling? That would mean you could never be happy. The one thing that never leaves is the feeling of God, the Holy Spirit. "It will always hear you cry". "It will never leave you high and dry". "You say that it's gospel but I know that it's only church"
I don't think it's a sad feeling. But that just proves your point haha! I think it's the feeling you get when you recognize your true self. Sometimes it's during sad times, sometimes happy times, but either way it's the way you feel when you know you're holding or have lost something true and real.
Never lose dat feel my friends - it’s impossible to replace
What a fucking good song
it's a fucking great song and full of Keith. Tom loves Keith.
Most appropriately titled song, ever.
Put it on the wall,
You can’t never take it down...
That feel..
It’s true
feels good man.
Awesome! Love it!!
The lyrics to the song the feel
Once you hang it on the wall,
You cannever take it down...❤️
i cant lose that feel no matter how hard i try :(
Hey man... I love you
I understand you Mr. Waits, the only thing I can never seem to lose is my virginity

Fantastica!
♥️
"You swear that it's gospel
but I know that it's only church..."
instant melancholy
illuvatar27 To me it is uplifting. I think "that feel" is God.
Tanya S
I dont think that that is what Tom intends with this song, but whatever works for you. Everybody puts their own meaning on songs and that's just fine.
illuvatar27
Why do you think that is not his intention?
Based on the lyrics of his other songs I do not think that Tom is a religious person. He does use a lot of religious imagery in his songs though.
illuvatar27
Really??? He mentions Jesus many times in his songs. Come On Up to the House is about accepting God. Jesus Gonna Be Here is also from Bone Machine. And the lyrics of this song include the words gospel and church. And what is the one thing you can't lose? God, because God is everywhere.
Great song. Sound like they are dead drunk alley cats fighting each other with lyrics and instruments.
>tfw no gf
i smoked heroin one time and that terrified the hell out of me and i got morphine once after an operation and that felt so good that i forgot the pain. after that, no more opiates.
Bitch
I'm using a dosage of methadone each day, that is comparable to 4 overdoses on morphine by any ordinary person. I have to use it the rest of my life, but still I don't want to stop.
Quit a job you really wanted, if theres one thing you cant lose, its that feel.
>tfw this should be 4chan themesong
>tfw 'tfw' is dead
