Modular Matten Filter

- Welcome to my first regular video this year. I put together a more compact matten filter and I kept the dual outputs. It doesn't really need the extra flow. It just looks better I think. Let me know your thoughts. I also made a hand hold to remove the module since I already had the clamps out. www.patreon.co...
This channel is so UNDERRATED !! great video.
Thanks so much!
Another slick design, I dig it!!!! I like when the HOB's get growth all over them.
we were gonna say the same thing...........it would be cool if they could grow all kind of plants and still run but it seems to clog em up......maybe Fishman could find a way of anyone can!
Hey thanks so much Don!
@@jackanddan Thanks guys!
@@jackanddan Thanks guys!
Better than the commercial matten filters available. Always an inspiration for us less qualified DIYers. Thanks Fred O
That's so kind of you to say Fred!
Looking forward to your video updates on your builds as you said "the good; the bad; and the UGLY!"
this is truely a great design! i love hamburg matten filters untill i have to clean them and destroy the tank in the progress. This will solve all my issues;)
Thanks so much!
Another great video.Great way to start the new year keep it up
Thanks Joseph!
good stuff as always and yes I'd like to hear more the good the bad and the ugly 👍
Cool! I will be getting to that this month. (I hope lol)
Awesome video as always!!
Thanks so much Ash!
That is a really nice filter and it makes want to try building it myself 👍
Would love to see that!
What glue are you using there? Great vid
Very nice! Do you find that much waste is released back into the tank as you lift out the cartridge? I began thinking about a Mattenfilter recently as I am tired of the time intensity and expense of maintaining cannisters and a HOB on my 50 US gallon tank (I'm not a breeder). The Hamburg filter makes sense but I was wondering about the practical mechanics of removing and cleaning the foam when required. Indeed, a small amount of research told me that this is messy. So, I thought about creating a complete temporarily-sealable cartridge which could be lifted out of the tank. It would include the lift tubes as well, unlike the beauty you've created. However, the weight of the included water may make it difficult to lift from the tank. Your design eliminates such a potential problem. If there were front and back "temporarily-sealable" plates on your cartridge, nothing would be released into the tank proper when withdrawing it for cleaning...if that's even an issue. I see a mill...a Bridgeport, perhaps? Looks like you have a lathe to turn those shoulders on the rounds, too!! Anyway, low and behold, your video turned up to tell me I might be on the right track. Thank-you!
There is always some mulm released back into the tank when taking out any dirty filter material, but very little in this case. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for responding!@@FishmanEricRussell . I'm interested in one of your kits, should you produce them. My aquarium is a 50 US, 24" deep, 16.5" wide, 26" long.
Hello!! I LOVE IT!!! It looks AMAZING!!! Thanks fr sharing & enjoy your weekend!!!
Thanks so much Dawn!
As allways, very well done ;o) would you share the measurements, this filter looks perfekt for my setup
Glad you like it! I will put it in an upcoming video
Nice built 👍👍👍
Thanks so much!
I'm assuming that this design is to convert to air power as opposed to electric water pump. If you were to build the full Marten, so it took the full span across the tank and then used dual air/water stacks, how much less efficient would it be? I think in a bigger tank you would need to create flow, but in smaller tanks maybe under 55 gallons you might be okay? I really like Marten filters with the water pump but I would try it with air. Great video!
Hey Kerry! This filter was designed so that you could clean one matten at a time. Because of the surface area I gave it more flow. The extra flow was an attempt to see if I could increase the flow over every part of the sponge and see if it was necessary. Turns out that it didn't make it more efficient. Extra flow is great for river fish though
i want one your filters are so cool good job
Glad you like them!
What kind of glue do you use ? Nice video ;-)
Thanks
Anytime!
use membranes , more they clog = more back pressure = membrane stretches = holes get larger and self clean
Thanks for the suggestion!
Anyway you would ever sell these?
Love the look of this filter! I have tried to email you, I must have the address wrong. Anyways another great video!
Glad you like it Sandy!
Awesome!
Thanks!
Always enjoy you videos. But you need to get you goods on the shelves.
Thanks so much. I would never have the time to set that sort of thing up. I am currently putting together some custom mail out builds through patreon though and that seems to be the extent of what i can find time for
I so want one of those!!
Hey Fishman, I've been watching a lot of your videos for a long time now but I have never tried to reach out to you until now. This update video gave me the motivation to do so but I don't know what is the best format to contact you for design and ideas. What I'm thinking of, I'm pretty sure it has been told/suggested to you but if not, great or that you yourself have thought about it or not. I just want to communicate with you about certain designs for testing purposes. I would do it myself if I had the tools, materials, resources, funding and time but I also know that you're doing your best to keep up with all the requests and that you're a busy man. I'm not rushing you at all but I would love to share some ideas with you and to try to put them to test for functionality and results. Please let me know a way to communicate with you and share thoughts and opinions.
Always loved your creativity. Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks so much for your kind words! You can reach me at fishmanericrussell@gmail.com
