I figured out how to remvove the 12:22 plate without breaking any tabs, so thought I would share here. My steps also make it much easier to detach and disconnect the electrical connector block mentioned at 12:37.(my 07 XC70 actially has 2 connector blocks, one on each side). Key to doing this is to understand the 12:22 cover plate and box behind it replace what used to be an ashtray assembly. The plate is hinged at the bottom. Pry open the top of the cover plate, it is retained by friction at the top, no tabs at the top. The cover plate will hinge open to about a 30 degree angle. Do not force it past that, do not try to pull the bottom of the cover plate straight out, you will break the hinge tabs. Opening the plate gives you access to the plastic box behind it. Look at exactly 12:47 in the video, the gap in the top bezel of the box, where the finger is pointing. There is the same gap on the right side too. Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver in each of these gaps, pressing the flat blade along the top edge as you insert, until the blade stops. Now pry downward (lift the scredriver handle upward). This will release the two plastic tabs that hold the box attached to the back of the center console. Now you can pull the box and cover plate assembly and it will detach from the center console. When you pull the box away from the center console, the cover plate will just "fall" off the bottom of the box, no broken tabs. Now you can also easily access the 12:37 electrical connector blocks because they are attached to the back of the box.
Also thanks from here for showing the 2005+ variant. Starting at 12:22 of your video, can you give any guidance to remove this panel wothout breaking any tabs? You show prying from the side but then you show broken tabs. Where is the best place to pry this panel to avoid breaking tabs? Thank you.
Hi Peppermint - I really find your videos informative. I have a 2004 S60 with the old style console that is broken and discoloured like most of them are. I was wondering if the newer style 2005+ console would fit in the 2004 model. Thanks!
I actually regretted I didn't check myself if such swap would be possible when I did this video. So can't answer this, the location of the 4 securing bolts seems to be similar, but there are other parts that need to fit
Of course, the handbrake lever needs be lowered to release the tension in the handbrake cable (if replacing the cables). The adjusting nut may help loosening the cables further more
Of course 2001-2009 S60 and 2001-2007 V70 XC70 are P2 platforms while 2008-2009 V70 XC70 will be the newer P3 platforms which are different indeed but it's not worth making the title twice as long just to be this specific. I'll remove the 'all years' so it doesn't create confusion

My 12v outlet dont work i replaced the blown fuses n it still don’t work
I did it one time and spend around 30min - 60min 😂 All problems was with hand break lever. I hope this is not your car ? - so dirty 😂
