Thanks for sharing your knowledge Roger, all these tips for those new to certain aspects of fishing are invaluable, good on ya for taking the time out to make the videos.
Great job again Roger...i finally got back to the beach after 8 weeks of lockdown and managed to get some worms and a few whiting...fun in the winter sun!!!
To keep them alive the best method i've found is a damp hessian bag with about a cup of moist sand inside, keep cool and in a shady spot and they stay alive and in good condition for about 5 days
I think the Methylated Spirit method is really good. Even when frozen they are still flexible enough to thread them on the hook. I use Ethanol which does the same as metho. Fish doesn’t seem bothered and are attracted just the same. Unlike frozen worms, the metho method keeps them flexible.
G'day Rodger. I've been watching quite a few of your videos as I've never been beach fishing before. A mate and me are going to Paynesville for a weeks solid fishing and I'm hoping that I can remember all or most of the techniques that will be applicable to use on site. This will test the old grey matter at least its all easy to follow info. Very informative thanks very much.
Wicked video thanks heaps! I have heard about the metho method before but was not sure how to do it. Finally a way to preserve them! Cant wait to give it a try.
Just waiting on my next roster to be released so i can confirm dates in February for a masterclass beach session when you're next in Sydney. Stay safe down there in Ulludalla with the bush fires. Cheers for sharing.
Roger, my sons & I only recently discovered your videos, and are catching worms for the 1st time after many prior failed attempts, so thanks for what you do. To the point, I've read from some who put the worms to sleep in the fridge for an hour before soaking them in metho, as this anesthetizes them to the pain.
Gday mate i have seen the sand method before but not the others ,a mate of mine catches cockles and he swears by salting them shucks them all then puts them in a jar salted , the metho one is the strangest one ive seen there probably pissed given the fish some lip then they get eaten thanks for the tips.
Hi Tightline Thailand. Stingrays are not something that we target in Australia. Usually they are a pest and we just throw them back. Stingrays eat most baits, they cruise along the bottom and suck up whatever they can find. To focus on sting rays you would need to fish mainly sandy and muddy areas and make sure that your bait is on the bottom. In Australia they like worms, squid, pieces of fish etc Regards Roger.
Hey roger great video one question I freeze my worms and they come out so much thinner and I was wondering when I use to buy worms frozen how they are so much better and would love to know how they do it cause I been wasting a lot of worms my was of freezing them ? Thanks mate
G’day Roger, Love the videos. I have used metho preserved worms and can vouch for them being affective. I am curious as to why the scent/taste of the metho doesn’t deter the fish? Any ideas? Cheers
Hi Ian, I don't know how we would know. We would need to be able to talk to the fish 😂 The main thing is that we know it works in practice. My dad used to do it 50 years ago.
With your metho method have you noticed any change over the last few years? Have to carefully read label on metho now, it used to be 95% ethanol and 5% methanol the clear stuff.. but nowadays even most of the clear products have up to 1% bittering agents to stop people drinking it
Richard, I have not tried it with blood worms but expect that it would work just as well. You get Methylated Spirits from your local hardware or possibly supermarket.
We have them in the Eastern US and they are called blood worms especially from North Carolina to Maine. HERE in Northeast most bait shops keep them in "Chinese" rice box (take out containers) with some seaweed and placed in fridge.

Hi roger , I am a big fan of you . Can you teach me how to catch stingray by using surf rod . Thanks

Do you use jigging lures? If so great next video.
I have absolutely no idea if we have such worms here in Borneo but I'm gonna go try find some...
Let me know if you find any Big Guy.
How would you best preserve pippies?
Hey mate, if you ever touch base on beach worms again can you give us some info on ordinary earth worms and any differences ?
Hi ML, I have not tried ordinary earth worms in salt water. They are a very good fresh water bait.
G'day Roger , great work .
Will these methods work on tube worms
Hi Rami, where do you find tube worms? Roger
Roger Osborne , always available at my local bait shop
Hey roger great video one question I freeze my worms and they come out so much thinner and I was wondering when I use to buy worms frozen how they are so much better and would love to know how they do it cause I been wasting a lot of worms my was of freezing them ? Thanks mate
Thomas, are you salting your worms?
Hi Roger, do you then keep the salted worms in the freezer or dry storage?
Hi Ian, I keep them in the freezer.
How do you stop them breaking into small pieces between the beach & home?
I coat them in damp sand at the beach and they don't break up.
How long do they last in the freezer?
Hi Yogibob, I have a friend who uses beach worms that he has had frozen for more than a year and still catches plenty of fish on them, Roger.
G’day Roger,

Hi Debbie, I'm not sure. I would love to know if there are Beach Worms in the USA. Roger
We have them in the Eastern US and they are called blood worms especially from North Carolina to Maine.

How long do the worms last when salted ?
They last well for about 12 months.
