By the time my two sisters and I were 7-8-9 years old respectively, my parents hired us out as field workers to farmers picking strawberries, cherries, potatoes and onions. We loved it as the farmers wife always cooked us a great lunch. The pay went to the parents of course and it greatly helped our family of nine. Many children in Holland spent their summers working like this. Never heard one complaint. 😊

Look at those beautiful fall colors in the hills! My ancestors settled in PA in the late 1600’s and even though many trickled down the the western states many have remained there. I’ve never been to Pa but it’s on my bucket list😊

Hi Andrew, how many tons of potatoes do you grow per acre, looks a good crop. In England we used to get 30 + tons per acre. I noticed your dinner, just spaghetti and meat, I would want a third of the spaghetti and meat and two thirds of the plate with broccoli, cauliflower, peas, kale, chard and anything else. I always eat the vegetables first if I have room I then eat the meat and only eat the spaghetti if I am still quite hungry. I often make butter bean or chick pea curry and give the gut a rest as it digests much easier than eating meat. I can't claim that I stay slim that way, I just feel a lot better. NB. I cannot eat wheat gluten so usually eat maize pasta (if I have to eat pasta!)

Wow! I've been following your videos for about 2 and half, almost 3 years now and I just can't believe how you're still harvesting tomatoes, peppers and sweet corn into now, the tail end of October. It kind of makes up for the horrid pepper crop you had last year. I asked this question shortly before on a previous video. Why don't you harvest everything that's left and sell it at auction? It seems you'd make a little more money than just letting it sit in the fields and have to plow it under later. Whats the deal?!!

Something to ponder...maybe do one big last picking...pick as much as you can of everything..even slightly green stuff...and charge accordingly....I would call this the "Penn State Picking".....in a few years there will be at least 3 possible students....and very likely even more...That isn't going to be cheap...soon the first of the next generation will need to get a bucket critter...with more fallowing....for 4H....and make $$$ for school....you boys might start to think about side income...maybe sauce...salsa...cowboy candy...maybe flavored popcorn business, or kettle corn...or perhaps Grammy will teach you boys how to bake...so your families can ""raise $$$"" for the upcoming expenses...clothing...vehicles...school...weddings....wishing the best for the entire family.
