Hello fellow Beatlemaniacs! I want to thank Ray for having me on his channel and taking the time to chat. I had a lot of fun revisiting the development of The Beatles: Rock Band and just generally talking Beatles, something I don't get to do enough in my daily life. I'll check in and answer questions in the comments if anyone has anything else they're curious about. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for doing that interview - as a hardcore long time Beatles fan - and also fan of Rockband this was so amazing to hear behind the scenes stories - Thank you again - Loved it !!!
Since you have worked on the game, there is a group of people that somehow are completing The Beatles' albums on jailbroken consoles. For instance, "Rain" is now on the game! I find it SUPER interesting how they are doing this, and I absolutely love it! Search it up here on youtube! PLEASE, if you get a chance, I would LOVE to see a reaction video from you! I believe you would be very impressed.
I have a question you may or may not know the answer to: I noticed The Beatles: Rock Band does not have the misplayed note sounds when you hit notes at the wrong time. Was this a decision by Harmonix or a requirement by the Beatles to keep their songs more "pristine" sounding even in the game?

Greeting YCUT fans! Have you ever played the Beatles: Rock Band video game? If so, you're going to be thrilled with this new interview with Maclaine Diemer, a multi-talented fellow Beatles fan who was part of the team behind this amazing game. If you have any questions for Maclaine, leave a comment and he may be able to answer. And new full YCUT episodes are coming soon!
@@Youngbloodgt109 I am able to get 80-95% on those songs on expert. Ringo isn't the greatest drummer in the world, but he's still one of my favorite drummers.
This was such a fascinating interview that I never knew I needed. Beatles Rock Band was what got me into the Beatles in high school, and it was basically the gateway to all of my musical interests
I'll always remember the day (09.09.09!). I went to my nearest game store, I was 17 years old (almost 30 now), bought the limited edition pack (drums, bass, mic and game), got back to my car with that huge box while everyone stared at me, and invited my 2 best friends to play the game. What an awesome game, what a labour of love it was. It was my "beatles" period and it felt like a gift to play such an incredible game. I also bought the DLC's, what a shame we couldn't have the whole catalogue, but still, a great deal.
Is there any way for someone to still get the dlc songs? I got into the game just after the stores closed online for it and I've been trying to find some way to get those songs.
The Beatles: Rock Band is great. While I’ve never actually played the game, I’ve played through the setlist on Clone Hero (a clone of Guitar Hero that allows you to play songs from Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and stuff made by the fan community) and it was a lot of fun. The Beatles: Rock Band still has a lot of fans. There are videos on it, there are videos showcasing it, and there’s even a dedicated group of fans going through the entire Beatles core catalogue and making customs to play in the game. People have gotten creative with the game. It’s great to see that there are people who still cherish these games that fizzled out years ago.
As a massive fan of the Rock Band franchise, this was awesome to hear the behind the scenes work on the game. We need a sequel or remaster of The Beatles: Rock Band!
I think this has the answer on why obvious songs (I'm looking at all of you, Hey Jude, Let It Be, Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane, Help!, Rain, Happiness is a Warm Gun, She Said She Said, Eleanor Rigby, She Loves You, All My Loving, Love Me Do, Please Please Me, From Me to You, Tomorrow Never Knows, We Can Work It Out, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, The Fool on the Hill, Magical Mystery Tour, Here There and Everywhere, Blackbird, Lady Madonna, I Call Your Name etc) were not included. Thank goodness TBRB Custom DLC Project exists.
I'll admit that I haven't played it... but do remember the joy of stumbling across the stems. WOW, was that incredible... being able to isolate and mix-and-match the various tracks together. And on "you can't unhear this" theme: I can no longer unhear George's fumbling first attempt at a guitar solo on Can't Buy Me Love - mostly buried in the mix on the album but exposed on the RockBand vocal track.
I was eleven when this game came out, and a very avid gamer. This was, indeed, my introduction to The Beatles, and they’ve been my favorite band ever since. Thank you so much for this interview! It brought back so many happy memories.
I remember dragging my dad to the midnight release at GameStop when I was 14 so I could pick up my copy that included the Hofner and drum kit. Thanks for making this video! I loved that game so much, I'm just sad we couldn't get their entire catalogue
I love the Beatles rock band videos & I'm glad they're becoming more & more available on you tube. You can tell that for the creators, it was a real labor of love. And as for the ah's on Day in the Life, it does sound like John to the casual listener. But it's definitely Paul. There are many examples of them trading off parts (usually the earlier stuff) & having vocal timbres so closely matched that it can be a little tricky to tell which of the two is singing (the tag on Eight Days a Week, the harmony part on I don't want to spoil the party, just off the top of my head). But the more you listen, the better you get at recognizing the qualities of their respective voices. And it's definitely Paul.
This is absolutely amazing! The Rock Band game has always managed to make me feel more entwined into the music with the added visuals and isolated tracks that have surfaced. Looking forward to some more content from YCUT!
I want to add a public mea culpa about where I saw the info on Paul singing the "aahhhs" in A Day In The Life. I tried finding the passage in Mark Lewishon's The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions and couldn't find it, and now that I'm thinking about it again, the passage was in Recording The Beatles. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of it because it's insanely expensive, but it's there.
@@m.o.tondi96 I honestly can't remember where it would have been in there. It's such a massive book. If there's a section where they talk about tape delay, it might be in there. Also, if there's an index in the back of the book like there is in The Complete Beatles Recordings, you might be able to track it down.
@@Giovanni_B9 Thanks for checking on that! They keep saying a new edition of the book is going to be published, so I'm resisting dropping all the money to get a copy now. Glad my memory of that passage isn't totally off!
I squealed when I saw this vid in my feed. RB:B was such a big deal for me. I was already in love with the band after hearing Revolver as a kid, but I was getting into audio engineering and rhythms games, so this came out at the perfect time. I still remember all my family on Christmas taking turns singing, strumming, drumming to this masterpiece. One of my favorite gaming and musical moments wrapped into one.
I have never played Beatles: Rock Band, but I have been a big fan since their first appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show. I was 11 years old, and knew then that this was history being made. This video was very interesting to me. Thank you very much.
As a huge fan of rhythm games, I have always wondered how the projects look from the perspective of people who make the charts for the songs and what their experiences are like. I have actually considered going into that job field because of how creative you can be with the layout of the notes. It’s almost like you get to put your own artistic trademark one the game while still keeping and respecting the integrity of the songs😯 Thank you so much for this insight!
I worked at GameStop at the time as a manager. I was so excited for this game, that I got so many people to pre-order it. There was a pre-order contest, where you would win a copy when it came out. I thought nothing more on it. When we went to the manager’s conference in Vegas, there was a huge presentation with Yoko and Dhani Harrison. I then found out that I had so many pre-orders, that the district was one of the best in the company. Not only did we all win the game, but we got to see Love! What an experience that was.. I actually cried a few times.
Hey, nice to see you in person! I shared your story about the "aaah" part many times and used it to debunk the claim "John sings the part on Rockband, and they fact-checked it!" Turns out their major fact-checker didn't get his say! All the best to you!
49:10 This reminds me of a story from Genesis (the band btw), when Tony Banks wrote the song "Afterglow" He realized the 1st two lines ("Like the dust that settles all around me...") sounded almost like "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" and he has to sing the line to himself to assure himself the melody is different. Couldn't unhear it since then
I’m a big fan of YCUT and The Beatles: Rock Band - even making videos about the Beatles in gaming myself. But I cannot believe 1. How I missed this in my sub feed when it came out and 2. How amazing this video really is. Thanks both!
This inside view to a game that is probably iconic (I wouldn't know, as a non-video-game-player), is insightful and amazing! To me it even sheds light on the Beatles ever-evolving recording process, which the game makers had to understand, being exposed to it at such a sublime level. It's also a fascinating look at how derivative works are handled and managed by Beatle members' estates. It's wonderful that the game was created by such fans and superfans with such great attention to detail, care for what they believed or hoped would be the Beatles own intentions, if they could've all been involved, and the level of minutiae included!
fun fact. i worked on rock band as a dlc tester. one day our boss came in: 'you're not doing your normal work tomorrow.' and we're all like 'huh?' he's like 'we need to send the demo off to the beatles tomorrow and you need to test the tracks for it.' which blew us all away, cause it was still kinda a rumor at the studio that the project was happening. one of the guys on the team was like 'do the beatles really deserve their own game?' our boss: 'shut the fuck up. don't talk to me for the next few weeks.' which cracked us all up. long story short, i can say that my work was directly viewed by the remaining beatles, george's son, and yoko. the beatles were my first musical love. needless to say, it's one of my favorite moments in life. also, one day, when i was fairly new at the studio, i was talking to someone in the hall for a while, after which another coworker came over and asked what we were talking about and i was like 'oh, this and that, why?' and he said 'that was giles martin, son of the producer for the beatles, he's only here today for a meeting.' i had thought he was just another dude who worked at the studio (there were like 150 people there and i only knew about a quarter). that also kind of blew my mind.
Rock Band: The Beatles is one of my favorites games till the day, I got all the instruments during the years, I keep playing with friends, family, fans of the Beatles, and anyone who love to play this game. Rock Band in general let me know people who's enjoy music and videos games, that's magic.
I have a love/hate relationship with this game. When it came out I was in a bad situation, couldn’t get the game much less the console. Years later and having recovered from a bad divorce I finally got it, and loved it! A few months in as I was getting good they shut down the servers and I lost the chance of downloading the extra songs from the store which was heartbreaking.
If you have the money for it, you can get an RGH Xbox 360 to download the old dlc that have been delisted, as well as even custom songs that were created by fans for the game that the original developers didn’t put in the game themselves
@@number6223 if you want to see some of the work of the custom songs just look up The Beatles Rock Band Customs Project on youtube, the customs are super well made and basically sold myself on getting an rgh xbox myself just for that
Great show! It reassures and thrills me that younger generations are as loyal to the Beatles as I am. Deep-felt thanks to the both of you for receiving and passing on the torch!
Great interview, thanks! The Beatles Rock Band game is made with so much attention to detail, you can tell that the people involved put their hearts into it.
100 percented this game when it came out. Was too poor to afford a console so borrowed my roommates and saved up for the game kit itselft. Great stuff!
"How would you sing the backwards stuff?" Have the words written out phonetically, and hope the singers are really good. I loved this game; I'm still bummed that "She Loves You" wasn't on there. I wish that the entire catalog were available. Maybe a second version of the game is needed...
Wow, great interview! I remember when The Beatles Rockband came out.. _loved_ it so much. Fond memories of getting all drunked up with my buddies and playing that game on Xbox. It was kind of a challenge playing the guitar though, being an actual competent musician (drummer, guitarist, etc) myself, of course the drums & vocals in expert mode were the only way I could play really, but I could never get the guitar part to translate over real well, as it's a plastic guitar with buttons rather than strings.. A bit hard to jive with personally, but everything else was a blast! 😎
Finally was able to watch this, great interview the behind the scenes aspect of this game is really interesting. I still can’t believe this game even exists, what with the Beatles being so protective of their music but not only am I glad it exists, the fact that it’s as great as it is is just icing on the cake. I always thought it was Dhani Harrison who made the pitch to Harmonix to get this going so to hear they basically started this game on faith is even more fascinating. I wish we could have got that Led Zeppelin game also, surely there must be demo footage out there somewhere?
Any idea why "She Loves You" wasn't one of the songs that was selected? It seems to hit all of the checkboxes as far as fun for every instrument (love George's leads on that), great harmonies (that sixth chord!), and a smash hit, so I always wondered why it wasn't included. Great interview -- thanks for sharing! I love "It's All Too Much" also -- an undiscovered gem and a musical "happening"
I don't know, honestly. There are already several songs in the same vein on the disc, and maybe the studio wanted to keep the focus closer to what was actually played during their first Ed Sullivan appearance? That's just my guess. There's no easy decisions here, and they had so many huge singles in those first few years, there's an over abundance of songs to choose from.
From what I've heard my good friend Graham Alexander who is an incredible Paul tribute artist and also the son of Fran Smith Jr. from The Hooters was a stand in model for the Beatles Rockband! I do recall a conversation with him where he spoke about all the fun he had taking part in bringing this project to life!
One thing I noticed in one of the Beatles songs on the game I dont know whether it was just on wii but George was playing a solo that Paul actually played on the song.
I love this most awesome geek-out session, especially as a Seattle area based (Jazz) musician that has toiled in the computer industry at MacZone/PC Zones, Egghead Software, EDS (Electronic Data Systems, now HP), and Microsoft... Yeah, I know some of the paths this chap has taken... Caramba...
it's very funny to me that he says that the goal was to orient the game towards kids to secure a new generation of beatles fans, because it absolutely worked, me and all my friends all got really introduced to the beatles by this game
Regarding the mysterious singing in A Day in the Life: To my ears, it's always sounded like Paul starts the portion. About midway through, it sounds like John's voice creeps in. There's a nasally rasp to it that is so distinctly not Paul. I am convinced there was some sort of harmony going on. Structurally, this makes perfect sense, as the song transitions from Paul's singing back to John's.
+1 on being a "Paul guy"; he was the most musically talented musician in the band as far as being a natural all-rounder, and without him the Beatles would have possibly folded following Sgt Pepper, and almost certainly following Brian Epstein's death. Pre-66 Paul was the guy always pushing the envelope musically, wanting to try different things and pulling in all the influences he was picking up in his connection to the London scene around this time while attending (and "performing" in!) events like John Cage's performance of 4'33; most people don't realise that it was Paul who initially brought in the avant-garde element to the music, which was a scene that John admitted himself he was suspicious of, and he only came around after meeting Yoko. It was Paul who first went for strings on a Beatles song (on Yesterday, at George Martin's suggestion), Paul who suggested tape loops for Tomorrow Never Knows, who later conceived the as-yet unreleased "Carnival Of Light", who came up with the idea for orchestral crescendos to link the sections of A Day In The Life. In 1966 John and George were tired of the treadmill but not the music, and The Beatles had all gone off to pursue their own things. John was filming How I Won The War, George was away to India having cut his hair etc, and Paul was the person who blew the "Beatles Assemble" horn to get everyone back in to do Sgt Pepper, which he came up with. Paul then had the idea for MMT to give the band something to do, and hauled them back into the studio. John has said at this point that he'd asked Paul to, "give us a few days, and I'll knock a few [songs] off", which shows how little interest John had in writing songs at this point. By his own admission Paul also ended up directing the MMT movie, and would be the band member at late night meetings, discussing the next day's setups. John told Jann Wenner, "Paul took over and led us...Paul made an attempt to carry on as if Brian hadn't died....he was the one that wanted The Beatles most". If you listen to some of the studio recordings, you can hear that Paul is the guy who's trying to organise them, to make sure the recordings are as clean and professional sounding as they can be. I can understand how the other Beatles might have felt he was being a bit dictatorial, but John has said that he was losing interest, and so it really needed Paul to step up and keep pulling the others along, for the sake of the whole band. Then, Brian died and it would have been so easy for the band to collapse without him, but Paul kept them going by coming up with projects and ideas to renew their spark. Paul came up with the name for Apple and was by far the most involved, and history shows that up until Allen Klein was appointed, Paul was the guy who'd be in Saville Row every day, and in fact of the four he pretty much solely managed Apple for the first year, while George said he hated Apple and its "rooms full of lunatics and hangers on". Paul designed the logo, and he had the idea for the famous advert with Alistair Taylor as the "one man band". Ringo told Howard Stern, "We have to thank Paul for the amount of music we put out, because he's a workaholic; John and I would be sitting in the garden and the phone would ring, and we would say "we know its him, he wants to go to work"". Paul was the one who loved being a Beatle more than any of the others, and he was the one who fought to keep it together by suggesting things like Let It Be, the rooftop gig, the "Abbey Road" album, he even went as far as to tell John to keep quiet about his plans to leave in 1969, saying "that means nothing really happened if you’re not going to say anything", most likely in the hope that it was another of John's whims and he would come to his senses. And when it became apparent that the "group" vibe had gone and he was fighting a losing battle, that's when even Paul became disillusioned, and he and Linda took off to Campbeltown. He's admitted since that he pretty much had a nervous breakdown, whereas the other three were pretty much relieved when the Beatles ended.
Absolutely agreed - and if you’ve seen the excellent new series with Paul and Rick Rubin, Paul’s lifelong devotion to the band and its music is on full display. We are truly blessed to have had him with us for eight decades and counting!
@@YouCantUnhearThis Yes! As a musician (and bassist), Paul is my primary influence on the instrument, as he distilled a lot of players into his one style, such as Jamerson and Carol Kaye. And you're right, Paul is the "custodian" of the band, if it needed a label. Paul is the guy who always paints the perfect picture of the Beatles, who never really says a bad word about the others and if he does, he always tempers it with something else to give it some context. John could be particularly vicious in his post-Beatle years and he often came to bury the Beatles, with comments like "I would like to re-record everything we did", but that's just the words of an ex-lover scorned, which John essentially was, but deep down he and the others were well aware of how big and important it was. Paul is particularly proud of what they accomplished, almost to the point of an arrogance, and why not?! They are THE BEATLES! When coming up with The Rutles movie, George was sitting with Eric Idle writing a scene that particularly ripped into the myth, and George stopped and said "Aww come on, we *were* the Beatles, you know". All four have referred to "The Beatles" in the third person, as though it was something that they were watching take place! All four have been disparaging about the band and each other to varying degrees since 1970, but they're allowed to be! I liken it to having an unruly child; he might be a little shit, but YOU don't get to call him a little shit, only me! :-D
@@Dairunt1 I like your idea. Perhaps someone will recognise the on-going market and bring RB:B to a whole new generation on 9.9.2024. Surely there MUST be an important anniversary from 1964 they could springboard from!
The first, second and fourth Beatles albums each had six covers on them - it wasn't just "With the Beatles"! I love that one dearly, personally. Anyway, excellent interview! Huge fan of The Beatles RB, and I agree it's Paul on ADitL.
Beatles For Sale was the album I was thinking of. I like about a third of that record and the rest is either "fine" or "bad", but bad in relative terms since I'd take bad Beatles music over a lot of other stuff any day.
One tiny (from a right hander - playing wise, left hander, writing wise) moan - why NO limited LEFT-HANDED edition of the Hofner Bass controller when the band contained the most famous left-handed bass player in the WORLD????
Great interview- very interesting behind the scenes! I've been so close to getting this game in the past, but I may just get a used copy now even after all these years!
This is such a great interview and neat glimpse into the process of making the video game. So much needed to happen to successfully create the game; a lot of which I didn't even consider! So it was very fun to learn about. I have to say though, Maclaine: with all your meticulous research I'm disappointed that you didn't catch the animation error of Paul playing a Hammond organ in the "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" segment. He should have been animated playing a Lowrey organ. That criticism is coming from a nerd who is obsessed with organs, however. So I doubt it was something that too many other people noticed. Haha
Giles was probably using some of the first AI source separation software available, to extract instrumentation from pre-mixed recordings. Nowadays anyone can have a go using Deezer's open source Spleeter software or for a price, Izotope's RX8 kit. I've been able to remix Rubber Soul this way, negating having to use the Rock Band stems. It now has no stereo 'dead centre' and sounds amazing.
Could you please to a video on Gimmie shelter by the Rolling Stones and the story behind Mick screaming woo at 3:01 of the song, I know you normally just do Beatles videos but the story is just so fascinating and would love to see you cover it. Thank you for the awesome content and keep it up
He was a historical consultant for TBRB but couldn't name their second studio album? :P Great interview though and interesting insight! Played the game to bits!
Editing in this vocal was quite tricky for Richard Lush, who had only just recently been recruited to work on Beatles sessions. Emerick continues: “Paul’s vocal…was being dropped into the same track that contained John’s lead vocal, and there was a very tight drop-out point between the two - between Paul’s singing ‘…and I went into a dream’ and John’s ‘ahhh’ that starts the next section. Richard was quite paranoid about it - with good reason - and I remember him asking me to get on the talkback mic to explain the situation to Paul and ask him not to deviate from the phrasing that he had used on the guide vocal.” “I was really impressed when Richard did that - I thought it showed great maturity to be proactive that way. John’s vocal, after all, had such great emotion, and it also had tape echo on it. The thought of having to do it again and re-create the atmosphere was daunting…not to mention what John’s reaction would have been! Someone’s head would have been bitten off, and it most likely would have been mine. But Paul, ever professional, did heed the warning, and he made certain to end the last word distinctly in order to give Richard sufficient time to drop out before John’s vocal came back in. Listening carefully, you can actually hear Paul slightly rush the vocal; he even adds a little ‘ah’ to the end of the word ‘dream,’ giving it a very clipped ending.” The above quote from Geoff Emerick, who was an eye-witness to the events on this day, clarifies that it was indeed John who sang the dreamy "aaah" vocal passage on the song. This should be enough to satisfy readers who insist that Paul sang this passage, their insistance being due to a passing comment from engineer Sam Okell during an interview five decades later that appears to indicate McCartney as singing this passage. Geoff Emerick was there, so he should know. The above quote also indicates that John’s dreamy “aaah” vocal of the song must also have been recorded on this day, but prior to Paul’s lead vocal section. This can confidently been said since the last day they worked on the song was on January 20th, this resulting in the “take six” mono mix of January 30th, which did not contain John’s vocals in that section.
Incredible game, so much fun, will need to find it and set it back up now. BTW - favorite song to play on it (as a non-musician) is Here Comes the Sun, the lead is so fun to play, such happiness.
On the next episode of YCUT I have a request. On Drive my Car, there’s a hidden guitar part in the right channel. You can hear it in the last verse of the song before the final chorus. I noticed it best in between “I told a girl she could start right away” and “she said listen babe I’ve got something to say” but I believe it can be heard throughout that whole verse
To this day I still kick myself over not downloading the extra songs for the game before they were permanently removed from the store in 2016. As a huge Beatles fan, it feels like something I really should have. Oh well, here's hoping that in the coming years someone finds a way to restore these songs on a hacked system or something (trust me I'd rather pay for the songs than pirate them, but that's no longer possible).
I can’t wait till I get a chance to watch this video. Beatles RB was a work of art in itself. Beatles animation for the 21st century and just fun. Have all the replica guitars (cant afford the real models!) I’m just sad cuz my ps3, which I bought in ‘09 in anticipation of this game (and the remasters) has been worse for wear lately and discs keep getting stuck I would just buy a used ps3 just so I can still play, but am afraid I will lose all the dlc that isn’t even for sale anymore
@@joedee9811 on reddit.com/r/ps3homebrew you can find guides for whichever model you have and all the different possibilities you can unlock by jailbreaking a ps3 (such as playing ps2 and ps1 games, emulation of a lot of different consoles, playing backups, downloading copies with DLCs and all that). MarioMan on RUclips also makes guides that are easy to follow but the reddit link is good for introduction

@@maclainediemermusic Indeed those costs must, rightfully so, weigh heavily over a decision to undertake any project that requires licensing from the 4 Beatles decision makers. Ray Connelly was discussing on Robert Rodriguez's podcast that the rights for the film Yesterday cost a whopping ten million USD. That's a robust sum even by film industry standards so I can imagine it would make other project decision boards reluctant unless the odds were in favour of a good return. Break even wouldn't cut it for the hoops one needs to jump through. Excellent discussion btw. I hope you return to this and other Beatles centered programs.

I have a question you may or may not know the answer to: I noticed The Beatles: Rock Band does not have the misplayed note sounds when you hit notes at the wrong time. Was this a decision by Harmonix or a requirement by the Beatles to keep their songs more "pristine" sounding even in the game?

Is there any way for someone to still get the dlc songs? I got into the game just after the stores closed online for it and I've been trying to find some way to get those songs.
If you're interested in getting more songs for the game, search The Beatles Rock Band: Custom DLC Project.
Ooh daaang, first a Hulu trailer for McCartney's new show now this interview. Today is gonna be good.
Yes, i'm VERY excited about the McCartney-Rubin series too. It's like a feature-length YCUT series!
Guys, obviously the AHHHHs in A Day in the Life is RINGO.
No it was Pete !
No it's billie joe from green day
Ugh, everyone is wrong.
It was Yoko
Shut up it's George Martin and Geoff Emerick.
No it was Freddie Mercury
As a fan of The Beatles, and an avid player of both _Rock Band_ and _Guild Wars 2_ , I really enjoyed this program. Thanks.
Sadly the wii cannot do that.
At least clone hero works!
@@aquathemage1680 God I wish Clone Hero for Android will be updated with touch controls.
I loved that game so much, I'm just sad we couldn't get their entire catalogue
man :(
Through custom songs, we will get it all!
It's a good day when YCUT posts something I've never heard before
I love the Beatles rock band videos & I'm glad they're becoming more & more available on you tube.
Looking forward to some more content from YCUT!
the rockband trailer for the beatles is literally one of my favourite beatles related videos to watch. its just beautifully stylised and crafted
I have access to a copy if you know roughly where the passage is!
@@m.o.tondi96 I honestly can't remember where it would have been in there. It's such a massive book. If there's a section where they talk about tape delay, it might be in there. Also, if there's an index in the back of the book like there is in The Complete Beatles Recordings, you might be able to track it down.
@@Giovanni_B9 emerick’s “memory” is notoriously untrustworthy!

I never got to play it
As a huge fan of rhythm games, I have always wondered how the projects look from the perspective of people who make the charts for the songs and what their experiences are like.
Great interview. I remember seeing Rockband back in 2009 at Best Buy. I was so terrible at the game because the graphics and music were so good. 😄
@@TreyTruce Oh wow, that sounds great! Thanks, I’ll look into that!

Great interview, thanks! The Beatles Rock Band game is made with so much attention to detail, you can tell that the people involved put their hearts into it.
One of my favourite channels on youtube. And it was great to finally put a face to your fantastic narrator voice!
Keep up the good work!👏👏
_Star Trek_ fans are notorious for asking the cast questions about details they couldn't possibly remember, so I know what that business is about!
100 percented this game when it came out. Was too poor to afford a console so borrowed my roommates and saved up for the game kit itselft. Great stuff!
This is an amazing insight. WOW! Loved every second of this interview. Thank you.
On All you need is love: Paul starts she’s loves you and John comes in and finishes it.
It never occurred to me that the stems would be available nowadays. Just checked them out, so awesome.
I love this game. I got just chills reading and hearing the motto.
"Meet the Beatles. Rock the World"
the perfect storm.
"How would you sing the backwards stuff?" Have the words written out phonetically, and hope the singers are really good.
I loved this game; I'm still bummed that "She Loves You" wasn't on there. I wish that the entire catalog were available. Maybe a second version of the game is needed...
Group of fans are working on bringing the entire catalog to the game through modded system
I had a small Beatles rock band party slightly after 09/09/09
Fun times!
Ray, I enjoy your videos and always liked your smooth and sophisticated voice. It's nice to see the face behind the voice.
I believe it’s because of the mix not having a stereo version
I don't know, honestly. There are already several songs in the same vein on the disc, and maybe the studio wanted to keep the focus closer to what was actually played during their first Ed Sullivan appearance? That's just my guess. There's no easy decisions here, and they had so many huge singles in those first few years, there's an over abundance of songs to choose from.
If I’m not mistaken the multitracks for She Loves You and I’ll Get You are missing and have been since the 1960s
This was a great interview ! Thanks so much !
I played the HECK out of Guild Wars 1.... nearly 7 years invested in the game. Glad to hear you worked on it...
This is amazing! I loved playing this game so much!
Stupendous interview!
We need a Beatles RockBand 2
From what I've heard my good friend Graham Alexander who is an incredible Paul tribute artist and also the son of Fran Smith Jr. from The Hooters was a stand in model for the Beatles Rockband! I do recall a conversation with him where he spoke about all the fun he had taking part in bringing this project to life!
"He's also VERY OLD, and it was a very long time ago.." 1:34
One thing I noticed in one of the Beatles songs on the game I dont know whether it was just on wii but George was playing a solo that Paul actually played on the song.
I love this most awesome geek-out session, especially as a Seattle area based (Jazz) musician that has toiled in the computer industry at MacZone/PC Zones, Egghead Software, EDS (Electronic Data Systems, now HP), and Microsoft... Yeah, I know some of the paths this chap has taken... Caramba...
College buddy of mine was HMX Live Operations Manager for that release
it's very funny to me that he says that the goal was to orient the game towards kids to secure a new generation of beatles fans, because it absolutely worked, me and all my friends all got really introduced to the beatles by this game
The only reason why I keep my old PS3.
Rock Band and Rocksmith are amazing

I need a beatles rock band remake. Just so it can run on the ps5.
I always thought it would have been fantastic to have a remaster with all DLC for the PS4 and Xbox One released in 9.9.19
@@Dairunt1 I like your idea.

Fabulous interview. What a cool guy. Kudos!
I was so into the Beatles when I was a kid that I feel like I’m part of the family.
Thank you for the awesome content and keep it up
Great interview. Still boggles my mind to this day that there was never a KISS: Rock Band though.
Great interview. Super interesting guy.
Richard was quite paranoid about it - with good reason - and I remember him asking me to get on the talkback mic to explain the situation to Paul and ask him not to deviate from the phrasing that he had used on the guide vocal.”
“I was really impressed when Richard did that - I thought it showed great maturity to be proactive that way.
This is awesome as a regular user of TBRB
Incredible game, so much fun, will need to find it and set it back up now. BTW - favorite song to play on it (as a non-musician) is Here Comes the Sun, the lead is so fun to play, such happiness.

big fan of that shirt, Maclaine!
And also, always enjoy a new YCUT vid on my feed!
You can back up the discs and then play them from a hard drive if you install a custom firmware (you can even get all the DLC packs).

Specially interested in the multi tracks used for the game. Are there other Beatles songs that can be digitally split into separate tracks? Could only find the songs used in the game.
Ok, my question has been answered in this video. Sadly enough there's not much hope 🥺
Is there going to be another Beatles: Rock Band in the future?
This time all of their songs?!?!!
It's very, very unlikely. Rock Band games aren't the hot item they once were, and the cost to license The Beatles' music is crazy expensive.
@Nathan Geiling I take a look. Thanks.
