I'm honestly surprised that the main character's dad lived after killing Midnight because that description pf how they buried him and his sidekick's bodies suggests they did it to hide from this world's equivalent of Superman.
Even if he's weaker than Homelander, such a person is still a nightmare for a regular thug and he is sure to be pissed about the death of his colleague
What if this worlds Superman hired the main characters dad to take out Midnight and his sidekick?

Bullet proof vest can actually be penetrated by point blank shots from something with a high caliber, or repeated shots in the same area.

Hence the reason why they're only allowed to be called bullet-resistant or ballistic vests, not bullet-proof. If the armor is rated for the caliber, point blank won't penetrate on the first shot.
But it's not just "high" caliber since ammunition types don't just go up in size in a linear fashion, there's width, length and also material the round is made of, the type of round (FMJ, armor-piercing, hollow point, +P, etc.), propellant characteristics and even the length of the barrel it's leaving (to a negligible degree, but still).
And, obviously, repeated shots can break through anything with enough time and repetition, as even waves of water can cut stone.
The second time a hero named Midnight has been killed by a complete nobody…

Why do I feel like my Wattpad and DeviantArt page have just been ravaged. Literally been working on my own original hero called Midknight with Jacob as his alter ego. Granted, that’s where the comparison ends.

I had an entire short story I wrote that ended up being nigh identical to a comic series that had it's first issue released two months before I was going to start uploading it online, the comparisons are uncanny and to this day it annoys me.

Which story arc is it where Jason is Batman, and carries guns? I remember when Donna Troy, Kyle Rayner and the Atom were hopping through the multiverse and came across a variant of Batman who was Jason. I'd love to read it.

I think I see where this is going, this batman and Robin analog gets killed by thug, Son witnesses both killings, traumatized for life, son almost killed during failed assassination attempt.
Son starts seeing the "hallucination" of the side kick who leads him to the midnight "batman" lair.
The son starts messing with the gear, practicing with it, and eventually becomes the next midnight, whose motive is to bring down his criminal father and his organization, he has a zero tolerance for guns and killing(much like batman) because of his trauma.... and as much as he tries to avoid it, things will probably get out of hand where he might have to resort to ending the life of a criminal, or accidentally kills someone in self defense do to lack of experience. This leading to a growing hatred of his father, but even though the son still wants to put a stop to him, he still loves his father, which really messes with his mental state.
Honestly, this seems really interesting, it's like Kickass, Batman, and Invincible.
Hopefully this goes well and doesn't get poisoned by "modern ideologies" and just sticks to good story telling, because this has a lot of potential.

that's sad about starling. and yes, we get it. midknight is nowhere near as trained and intelligent as batman. it's Jacob that becomes the better version of him. looking at midknight's 'cave' he was probably still loaded tho - maybe his parents didn't die and he grew up happy, but soft-minded.
