Black beauty is my absolute FAV song of all time. Lana taking naturally beautiful things from nature and applying it to her song so as to help this person on a journey around the world that they're not willing to go on. So heartbreaking for her but I love how she isn't saying anything bad about this person. She genuinely likes them and wants to help but she doesn't know if she can or if she should even spend all this time trying to get into their soul and help them to see all the colours and positivity that surrounds them. Thank you so much for reacting to it!!!
The line “sun and ocean blue, their magnificence, it don’t make sense to you” hits so hard. Idk how to describe it properly but it’s like that defining moment when you realize a relationship isn’t going to work because you’re too different. Something they say makes you realize they aren’t on the same wavelength and it breaks the idea of them you’ve been building in your head. Like having to explain to someone why something is beautiful or poetic because they don’t see beyond the surface. Its the moment where you suddenly go quiet because you recognize how mentally/spiritually distant they are. Kinda like the “ick” but with a bigger picture
i can't believe you liked guns and roses! most people don’t really enjoy this song and say that it's too repetitive and boring but i'll always defend it. it's so dreamy and beautiful i'm glad you love it too
I used to be one of those people who always skipped guns and roses. But recently I let it play just cause I felt like it and DAMN IT WAS SO GOOD. I had listened to it before but somehow the vibes were different now and it just hit better
Florida kilos is one of the best, yet strangest lana del rey songs of all time. It has such a different vibe than the other songs on the album, but is one of the best still.
There was a post on the Lana Del Rey subreddit asking people what song from Lana they thought was the worst or a skip and Guns And Roses was multiple people's answer :(
I've always had this interpretation of "Black Beauty" that she is talking about a friend/lover who is depressed and doesn't see the beauty of life. She knows she can't make them better so she's painting the sky black, her nails blue and all that to try to meet them halfway. On my first listen I felt like she was speaking to me directly as I was in a really bad mental place at that time.
@@pedro_mab Yes and he's been honest and open about the fact he was suffering from severe depression while he was with Lana and it was really hard on her.
A lot of Lana's songs (including Black Beauty and Flipside) are about her ex boyfriend Barrie. He was not abusive or anything and they seemed to love each other a lot, but he suffered from severe depression and they broke up because Lana couldn't handle it. They're still friends though and clearly still have a lot of love for each other, and based on her lyrics I think part of her has always hoped that someday when they're both in a better place it could still work out between them. I know you said you aren't reacting to videos anymore but even if it's on your own time, watch "Summer Wine" and you'll get to see a song and MV they made together while they were still a couple.
Black Beauty is probably one of her saddest songs tbh. Song is about her making her own life darker just for him. Heartbreaking that she'd pain her lips cherry red. Just a little pop of colour in a world of darkness that he's in, but she does it for herself because the darkness is getting too much. I think there's actually a recorded interview that leaked where Lana starts to cry when talking a out this exact pop of colour.
tip for honeymoon: there’s those two tracks on honeymoon called burnt norton, which is an interlude, and religion, and you have to look at them both together (lyrically) cause that was the whole point:) already excited to see your reaction!!
Another interpretation to Black Beauty, that I like, is talking about your depressed self, and your moments of happiness is just trying to show your depression a brighter life
From what I know, Flipside is for her ex Barrie (songwirter in some songs of UV), he went to his natal country (he's from Europe can't remember where from exactly) and that's kind of why they broke up, apart from other things, but yeah it would've been nice for her to end her song saying that she won't be waiting for him on the flipside, but let me tell you that on NFR!, 5 years later, she's still saying she'll catch him. Anyways, thank you for your reactions, I truly truly love them, and can't wait for HM to be (re)experienced with you. I think you'll like the production on that.
You're totally right about West Coast / Florida Kilos comparison. Personally I'll always choose WC but I see they're on the same wavelength, it's the same style. This is the style that I wish she'd do more of again. :)
I love the instrumental outro on flipside sm it sounds dark and it literally gives me chills each time I hear it. Lanas mvs aren't really for analyzing but are mainly for the aesthetic and theme of each era which personally heightens my enjoyment of the albums. But yes honeymoon is next! the most beautiful album!! her best!!!
Black beauty is in my top 4 Lana songs. Maybe even #1 sometimes. That song makes me fold in half and weep. Loving someone with depression and being someone with depression... this song is just so much. It's perfect.
oh girl prepare yourself for honeymoon, you will not come out of that album the same as you went in 😭. i look at honeymoon as a sister album to ultraviolence, they have relatively the same sonic influence, but honeymoon feels lighter & happier. there’s definitely not nearly as many drums or heavy instruments on honeymoon. i also love honeymoon so much because the entire album is cohesive, some of the tracks flow into one another very smoothly.
I recommend to watch the music videos, Lana Del Rey is An amazing lyricist and amazing singer, but one of the things that is very know about her are her aesthetics! And the music videos DO reflect the aesthetics of the era and vibes she wants to transmit, and trust me UV music videos are so good!!! And NFR once you get there, and actually every single era haha, please do!
black beauty is about her ex barrie who had depression, she has a lot of songs about him, and even with him, he produced/co-wrote some songs on blue banisters (i love her cover of summer wine with barrie) and he is the backing vocal on brooklyn baby, also cant wait for your honeymoon reaction
Honeymoon is the album I’d want to play on my deathbed so I could sign contentedly (and quietly) and say, “it’s cool, I have heard this album in my life” and close my eyes. 🥰
omg please lana music videos are something else mann, i wish youd continue watching them because lana tells more story through her videos but i loved this reaction
Really thank you so much for your analysis. Alot of people just sit there and repeat the lyrics as their "analysis" or do over the top tears. Your insight was very thoughtful snd I'm so glad I stumbled on your channel! Thank you again! 💜
Omg I just realised the lyrics in flip side link back to ride when she says “don’t break me downnn” and “don’t say goodbyee” and also “don’t turn arounddd” on the build up to the chorus (I hear the birds on the summer breeze…) that’s so cool what
So that makes it the flip side of ride as in ride she’s asking the guy not to do that to her and now she’s being told by the new guy it won’t happen. Yayyy ☺️
25:21 it’s like she broke with him firstly, and then got engaged and only then he broke with her…that’s so sad and heartbreaking. That’s why the song is called Flipside
The Ultraviolence deluxe is one of the best i've ever heard. These are tracks that enhance the experience of the album and have great production, the lyrics remain dark, heavy and with Lana's best vocals. One of her favorite albums easily.
I am absolutely in loveee with you and your Lana reactions omg. It feels like when I first listened to the albums and how giddy I was and trying to absorb all of the emotions I felt.
Florida Kilos is one of my favorite Lana songs. I'm not sure if you've seen the movie Spring Breakers (which happens to be a favorite movie of mine), but the writer/director of that movie, Harmony Korine, also co-wrote this song. It's like the perfect anthem for that movie as well, even though it wasn't actually featured in the film. ETA: I wrote this comment before I finished the video and saw that you included that. lol
My faves are very personal to me, like, Black beauty and happiness are my favorites on the bonus tracks, because black beauty is how i get when I'm very depressed, i can't see the beauty of anything and is this happiness is my fave too because i had a lot of moments in my life where i questioned if what i was experience is happiness, while knowing it wasn't and she capture this so well, the way she sings "is this happiness?" resonated with me
thank you for your reaction! PLEASE, i’m begging you, listen to that one unreleased ultraviolence song, which is posted on youtube, that’s called “your girl”. only a few people know about it, but it has such a witchy vibe and sounds similar to black beauty!!
I think flipside and ride are linked (or at least about the same person) since "don't break me down, don't say goodbye" is used in both songs but used in different scenarios. I suppose it makes flipside more beautifully tragic as she has found somebody who doesn't want to break her down but as she predicted is inevitable to happen , comparing it to her other relationships. It's a song about how unlovable she feels. I love Lana and i love your vids
Girl you also have to listen to Lana's unreleased album under Lizzy Grant and unreleased somgs I'm SO jealous of you being able to hear them all for the first time
On Is this happiness, I think she means "we both are depressed, and how do we fix it? You have a gun, and you wish to be able to end yourself, but I got my dad, who's helping me to get out of this darkness" You said how she can keep doing so depressed songs, so a "fun fact" is that on her last album she has a song called Fishtail", the lyrics says "you wanna me sadder", and it's supposed to be to her fans who want her doing depressed songs, and want her to keep the path of Ultraviolence songs. You'd be happy to know that in which next albums you'll see her better, not only production or lyrics, but mentally. She's very happy now, and enjoying life with her family and friends. ❤️ Btw, I love you look to suit into the album vibes! 💞
Flipside only available on Japanese version CD album (not available on streaming platform) and it has the best intro and outro imo. It’s giving that “3:00 AM and we’re sitting on the moon kind of atmospheric” vibes off it.
Flipside my fav!!!!!!! So haunting & amazing! Thank you for showing this to more people! So many don’t know about flipside. & Some of us don’t have an ounce of luck in the love dept 😂😂😂😂
You remind me of my therapist with your nodding while you listen with a smile then trying to give your interpretations of the songs, please never change
I sang "caught you once, maybe on the flip side I could catch you again" to my rat when he passed in November and I can never hear this song the same 😢
During the writing of Ultraviolence, Lana was in the process of splitting up with her then-boyfriend, Barrie O’Neil, who is also a singer-songwriter. He had issues with drug addiction and depression, which informed a lot of the songs on the album, especially Black Beauty, Is This Happiness, and Cruel World. He wrote a few songs about Lana after the breakup that are worth checking out.
There was a post on the Lana Del Rey subreddit asking people what song they thought was the worst or a skip. Guns And Roses was many people's answer :(
In college my friends and I went on a spring break trip to the southern coast, and we went over to Florida one day and blasted Florida Kilos on the way there lol, we had to do it
The original version of Black Beauty, which I believe was meant for Born To Die, actually didn't include the drums in the chorus at all! She had that element added to better fit the sound of the rest of the album. I was obsessed with the unreleased version before Ultraviolence released and it was so crazy to be able to actually listen to it officially for the first time.
This was the last album with deluxe tracks... All the others is just one album. I can't wait for Honeymoon reaction, I think you will like it even tho it is not a first listen album. Is This Happiness was an ITunes exclusive song. Flipside was a Japan exclusive song, that's why you couldn't listen to it. This year was the first year that Lana performed Flipside live, and people kept thinking she was going to release it worldwide.... But she didn't 😭
Waiting for Honeymon reaction - my favorite album, but at the same time the slooowest. My all time favorite song of Lana is The Blackest Day from Honeymoon.
Pls never change the way you react to songs you just listened to. I love every pause and your analysis is soooo beautiful. Ik im gonna love this vid🫶
I agree 💯 ❤
Yesss exactly!!! I only watch her reactions to lana BECAUSE of the way she takes her time and pauses and analyzes stuff
period. youtube is cluttered with these reactions so give me either cass' thoughtful approach or icon & legend ajay!
I agree too
Can’t wait for the honeymoon reaction, its such a different vibe but yet also dark. Salvatore, freak, religion and 24 are my favourites
legit all of my favs lol
i think she’s 100% going to fall in love with art deco in my opinion
noot yetttt we need to get reaction to MVs of this album
I can’t wait until she hears high by the beach!
Freak is soooooo beautiful and underrated, the music video too is just stunning
Just so you know for Honeymoon, freak has a reallllly nice transition into Art Deco. Listen to the transition if you can!

Flipside was an exclusive song that was on the target edition vinyl of the album, and I believe it's available on apple music and spotify in Japan
With Is This Happiness
there was no ultraviolence target edition vinyl, though flipside was available on the target exclusive cd and the Japanese cd
i can't believe you liked guns and roses! most people don’t really enjoy this song and say that it's too repetitive and boring but i'll always defend it. it's so dreamy and beautiful i'm glad you love it too

I really hope you're in a good mental place right now!
I think she's confirmed that it's about Barrie-James who was her boyfriend at the time
She's such a masterful artists

Lana’s 2023 song Say Yes To Heaven was recorded for Ultraviolence then leaked but recently got popular on TikTok so she officially released it
SO happy to see Guns and Roses get some praise. I'm really enjoying your Lana journey! Flipside is one of my absolute favourites, I adore the outro

I'm sooo jealous that you are going to hear honeymoon for the first time!! Can't wait till your next uploads !x

I love to see your videos, helps to relax my anxiety 💖
I think flipside and ride are linked (or at least about the same person) since "don't break me down, don't say goodbye" is used in both songs but used in different scenarios.
