Love my Sundays with a family . I am all alone since my husband passed last month and I was already loving yours. Wish I saw you more often. Thanks for a very interesting report.
Loved the reminder, Fern!😘 My fav was the Grand Frais, but we used to shop in Auchan, Leclerc and Carrefour, when we were there! I remember when you bought the special cheese from Grand Frais a few years ago!😊 I miss a lot of the French products, even though, nowadays, Ireland is getting better with the offer...Ralph is having every day on his school lunch sandwich Madame Loik creme cheese...it is expensive, 3.80 eur for a small box, but it is delicious. Most of the prices are very similar with the ones over here, steaks and veggies. Thank you for your efforts to film in the shops!!! 😘❤🥰
"Madame Loïk" fresh spread cheese is also expensive here in France (compared to our standards). But, yes, it makes a really nice spread for a sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, smoked ham and a slice of comté or emmental...
I really do enjoy grocery videos from other countries. French grocery stores are amazing! I am so envious for the tinned cassoulet! Hard to find here and awfully expensive! Thank you for the video!
Thanks so much Fern ❤ great info and gave us new places to shop while we are here. We shop a lot in the Monoprix and the fresh markets we love here in Nice 👍🏻
During Mardi Gras in New Orleans they serve King Cake and it has a little baby inside it! The represents baby Jesus and the cake is in three colors( gold/green & purple)to represent the three kings. It’s a French tradition and the Galette reminds me of that!
Thank you for the food tour and price comparisons. It was very knowledgeable. Food is still high right now, so you have to shop around. Have a great week! 😀
What a lovely video Fern that was interesting & suprising when we compare foods & pricing in different countries , there is always something new from you & that's what I love about your channel you put your heart & soul into everything ....Thank You always 🇨🇦
Great video Fern! The Figue pâtisserie is gorgeous and I really recommend it’s marzipan and inside you have a nice sponge with cream in it, I’m from Paris but not living there anymore and I remember getting a figue pâtisserie very often.. I’m actually coming to Nice in April and I hope I’ll find it in the boulangerie !!!
I loved this video. Very useful indeed. Thank you! Beautiful produce, huge choice of cheeses and so forth. Did you know that Lidl sells Munster cheese this week? Very stinky but delicious French cheese. Have a look.
Enjoyed this vlog Fern ~ and now I understand why I found the figurine in my piece of galette/cake we bought to eat in our room 😄it was quite a nice cake to have with a cuppa ! I miss Nice already, we loved it 🩷🩵💛💚🩷🩵💛
I love to go to Carrefour supermarkets to wander around ( in France & in Spain). Never been to Grand Frais, so I try to find one on my next trip to France!
Hi Fern, thank you for the lovely video about your shopping experience in the French Riviera. I was quite surprised in the price of some items as I am in Canada and everything is overly priced. Here, we have a grocery pricing shopping wars. Makes me want to travel to Europe just to save on my grocery shopping! Going to consider moving to Europe in the future❤
Hi Fern. Im Scottish and live in Mallotca. We have Mercadonna, Eroski, Lidl, Aldi and the small Spars. Also have Campo. Dont hink we have Carrefour. Like you say all levels of shopping . We shop in them all . I would say Mercadonna is the most expensive. Like everywhere, you have to budget and buy within your means. We have markets throughout but I wouldnt say they were alot cheaper for fruit and veg. Your supermarkets looked so good. x
Good morning 🌄. So very ☃️❄️ wintery here.Busy with de Christmasing.Because the temperatures were so brutal it was delayed.Better now with lots of pretty 🌨️ snowfall. Not fond of driving on ice so we tend to big shop.Several fridges& freezers ( hangover from countryside living.Over the long run makes time! ) I couldn't help but see how much heavy plastic was involved in most items' presentation .I enjoy our Canadian awareness of plastic.Produce is mostly unpacked & choice is given & personally bagged in thin bags from rolls around the area . That's a good thing. So mostly Canadian supermarkets have a 'market ' feel.Certainly your fish & cheese & bakery sections are superior but our meat markets are excellent. Close to 90% are omnivores.4% pescaratarian of which they consider themselves vegetation,10% of the population eat plant based food being vegetarians.Glad you managed to sneak about & give us the goods!Interesting. When I look outside to the beautiful white frozen North & chomp into that famous Canadian meat. ( I'm smiling) I know a shot of bacon, fried baking onions & floured fried calves liver is a terrific boost to my winter ☃️ immunity. Also love sauteed chicken 🐔 livers with chopped shallots & ground sage & S&P on toast.(I love all the inners.Truly not everyone's cup of tea!) Always great to see you.Being economical is wise & takes work. Thanks for the tours! Not going to edit this in case it doesn't post like the last time .My PS & PPS did but not the original.Hope that explains last time.I enjoyed seeing you both playing in the water.❤! Great dive by Ryan.
That is an interesting point of view. I liked seeing how the fresh meats, etc. were packaged. The food appeared safer to eat and fresher wrapped in plastic and styrofoam.🌸
Thanks Fern, that was really informative. We shop mostly at Monoprix, Lidl & Intermarche, but we have been to all the supermarkets you mentions except Grand Frais.
It really comes down to what you pay more for one thing; and your able find sometimes that you you can save! When I lived in Lyon France in 1991 to 1999 I did buy a lot at the first of the month unfortunately with my mother-in-law. ( what a night mare) But that being said I still went shopping at the market on the River on Sunday for cheeses. I used to cook a chicken every Sunday; just because my husband enjoyed my American cooking with brownies that I brought from America. So look forward to your vedios and only your vedios remind me of living in Lyon in winter and Antibe in spring and early summer than of ille d Rey in the summer, August and September up In lake Annecy . How How miss living there ! You are the only vlog that brings me back to how I lived, Still here in Longmeadow Massachusetts. I am so mixed about living back here; but my nephew who is 46 and two boy's that I brought up. But I so remember a happy life , God bless l bless you Fren so happy and look c forward to your vedios! ❤❤
Some beautiful places you’ve lived! 😍 Ohh I love Annecy!! We did an afternoon there on a drive back from Morzine. Unbelievably stunning place! So happy you enjoy the videos and they bring back memories. 🥰❤️
Aldi do the best organic porridge and quality peanut butter. I agree though, the fruit is not the best. Lovely to see all the different supermarkets. I did laugh at the end. my grown up children were exactly the same, in the late 90s with the Neto bags.😄
Interesting episode - The prices of items you highlighted were close to the same here.🇺🇸 I read that Italian butter contains a vitamin or mineral, something healthy that no other country’s butter has but don’t remember what, but I had been using Italian butter (Parma butter) anyway cause I love it. I’ve never had French butter❣️👏🏻👏🏻
Carrefour, in order of size, have hypermarkets, supermarkets, markets, city and express stores. They are everywhere. The smaller they are, the more likely they are to be in town centres, higher overheads and so higher prices.
Fern! Interesting….. I always thought butter was butter and there was nothing special about it. Who knew?!?This video (and your family) is a great escape from what’s going on in the world today. Thank you!!!🌸🌸🌸
Loved the tour of those stores. We here in Texas are so spoiled to have so many different food stores for healthy food we have WHOLE FOODS MARKET ALSO SOME OTHER HEALTH FOOD PLACES. WE HAVE ALDI'S TOO AND SPECIALITY BUTCHER SHOPS AND ON AND ON I PROBABLY WOULD BE AT A LOSS OF WHAT TO BUY IN FRANCE😂
I've always found it easy to find bacon, streaky, filet, smoked or not, or even the really thinly cut round slices. I agree it's not quite the same as in the UK. However, if you go to your local pork butcher, he'll cut exactly what you want'
What a great vlog, Fern! I love the news reporter vibes while you toured the stores. I hope you have a great week! 🤗 Bty- Is Ryan still going to have his own channel? 🤞🏻
Thanks - I love shopping videos. I buy baked beans in Lidl (here in Cyprus) and I prefer them to Heinz. Name on the label is Freshona and they are very good beans. x
The chicken at 9:00 is a "pintade" : a guinea fowl (hence its size). "Fermière" mean it was grown in a farm, on the ground, in free range, and probably fed with proper food.
Last, but not least, you can get tins of haricots blancs everywhere, and often in tomato sauce too. They are a little firmer than the beans Heinz produce and the sugar content is much lower. You can also buy them dried and cook your own. Cheap and great in stews, soups and salads.
Thanks for doing this video. I always wondered what type of supermarkets you have there. I was wondering where does Ryan go to shop for building supplies etc?
Glad you enjoyed. 😊 Ryan’s channel is due to go live very soon. We actually have a video scheduled with all information on where to shop for various building materials. 👷🏼♂️
if you want to find bacon its called "poitrine fumée" here and the best item for me at the super U are the frozen Manosque pizzas that are quite hard to find, the label rouge ones are their best and are all fire wood coocked
Hello Fern💛. I have a question: why don't they have BACON in FRANCE??? A curious mind would like to know. coming to you from Virgina......love to the family😘
They do have what the British call streaky bacon, more like bacon from the USA, it’s called poitrine and is sold here in France. It’s very unlike British back bacon though.
Im vegetarian…so would be most interested in the fresh produce. I eat different kinds of beans everyday…so wondering if they sell a variety of beans. Here in the US the stores have lots of variety but one negative is that the stone fruits are all picked before fully ripe, so a disappointment in flavor…ive always heard that France fresh fruits and veggies dont compare, so much better than ours: sweet and juicy and tomatoes not the best here. Are there large varieties of frozen fruits and veggies?
A "faux filet" is a "sirloin steak". You can find them everywhere. Not to be sniffed at! A "filet de bœuf" is a "filet of beef", not to be sniffed at either. So worth genning up on your cuts of meat, as you may be missing out in a bargain here and there!😊 😊😊
Love my Sundays with a family . I am all alone since my husband passed last month and I was already loving yours. Wish I saw you more often. Thanks for a very interesting report.
💔🥺 Sending huge hugs!! ❤️ Videos now every Wednesday & Sunday 5pm french time with hope for more in the near future 🤞🏼 Blessed to have you here 🫶🏼💫
This is going to make your channel explode!

That's how the king cake tradition started here in Louisiana by copying Galette.
Thanks for taking us food shopping Fern, I really enjoyed it!!!!! ❤
My pleasure 😊
I enjoyed that Fern, so lovely to see all that good produce and the prices. Sending loads of love xx
Glad you enjoyed it! Big loves right back! 🫶🏼🥰
Thank you for taking your viewers along on this grocery haul on the Riveria!! Useful and interesting information!
You are so welcome! ❤️
I liked when Fern held up the Poptart box and pretty much called it pure unadulterated crap. So funny.
So true!!!!! And so expensive!!!!
Loved this video! Thanks to you and Ryan. (He’s a good sport)
Thank you Fern this was so fun. Have a good week from a Michigan subscriber where we've been covered in snow.
Your hair looks so good that colour
Thank you!! ❤️

Very interesting, lots of variety, those desserts looked delicious, great for occasions and parties, the cheese sounded tasty.😊❤ xx
Very well put together video. ❤
Thank you so much ☺️
Very informative, love it. USA. Only a Aldis for.. unique foods❤❤loved this

❤🎉❤ Loved this insightful info on supermarkets in France, Grand Frais for celebrations defo 🎉❤ everywhere is expensive for food!!
Thanks Fern. We are coming to this area of France very soon and this was a great video for us. Well done 😊

So fascinating seeing French supermarkets. Being from the US, I’m so bored with our options!
Pulling that low, blue basket through the market made my back ache. Some people used the push carts. My people!
Very fresh gud❤

Thank you! ☺️ Glad you enjoyed!
Lots of work happening behind the scenes for Ryan’s channel. Almost ready to go! 🤞🏼❤️
I love Antibes the most from all of the places in French Riviera. Do you ever go to the Picasso Museum?
Thanks - I love shopping videos. I buy baked beans in Lidl (here in Cyprus) and I prefer them to Heinz. Name on the label is Freshona and they are very good beans. x
I’ll keep a look out 👀 Thank you! 😊
Thanks for showing us around all grocery stores . That carrfour in Antibes was huge . Do they have that big one in Nice too ….
The Nice carrefour hypermarché is actually way north of Nice at Lingostiere. Newly extended and made over, huge organic section too.
Love videos like this! Life in other countries ❤But is”bio” the same as organic? I’m live in Texas, so I have no idea what “bio” means🤷🏾♀️
Yes! Bio & Organic are the same. 😊❤️
Faux filet does not mean false filet. It’s a different cut from a different part of the animal but isn’t cheap and is excellent quality.
if you want to find bacon its called "poitrine fumée" here and the best item for me at the super U are the frozen Manosque pizzas that are quite hard to find, the label rouge ones are their best and are all fire wood coocked
Bio coop and naturalisa chain stores also offer hard to find items and organic, but more pricey.
What’s hard to find are black beans, bacon strips, wide variety of ice cream like you find in the us, kombucha
Ye good❤
Hi Fern , heard that Leclerc is one of the cheapest in France , Vence , La Colle and Grasse near us , but the Casino in Le Rouret is mega overpriced
Grow sprouts for next to nothing! 🌱💚❤️
For your english speaking audience : "bio" in french is short for "biologique" which means "organic" in english.
❤❤
❤
Fillet in france is like a sirloin tip steak?
I think the Netto tin beans are just white beans and no tomato sauce hence the cheap price 😢
What does Bio mean? Is it like organic?
Yes! Just means organic 😊
Speaking of shopping, are you still shopping for a new home? 😊
Yes! Lots of house updates coming soon! 😊🏡

Hello 😊 Yes! So many beautiful varieties of fruits, veggies & beans here. 🍇🫐🥑
And actually animal proteins are more concentrated, but plant proteins are more complete and less expensive ♥️
Fern, you said organs don’t you mean offal ?
A "faux filet" is a "sirloin steak". You can find them everywhere. Not to be sniffed at! A "filet de bœuf" is a "filet of beef", not to be sniffed at either. So worth genning up on your cuts of meat, as you may be missing out in a bargain here and there!😊 😊😊

Every 20 seconds a child goes missing....the ingredient ?natural flavor is?
???
Did you not like my comments Fern? They are no longer here.
Hi Michele. This is the first comment I’ve seen from you? Perhaps it didn’t post?
Fern darling you’re drawing attention walking and talking into the mic as if you’re doing a comparison for a rival shop
I don't get it.. is it a new microphone? shouldn't it clip onto clothing?
❤❤❤❤
