As a lifelong Redskin fan (saw my first game at RFK in 1971), thank you so much for not using woke terminology (the Washington Football Team). Redskins forever!
Screw the woke mob. I don't pay attention to sports AT ALL anymore because of all the political garbage, the showboating, taunting, celebrations - can't stand any of it. But the team name changes are absolute bullshit. FYI - the Redskins originally started out in Boston in 1932 as the Braves. Long live the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, and whoever else these fuckers feign offense with.
Don't have that one, and since I don't see that it is posted by anyone else on RUclips currently, I have a feeling that it would be blocked for viewing if I attempted to upload it.
You have raised these from the dead, but more importantly and the true miracle here, is you actually make the horrendous 1970's-80's "astro-turf" srfaces ... well, look game ready and miracously playable.
I was born in 85 and obviously never saw any if these games on your channel but I'm a HUGE fan of your work and of old school football. I enjoy watching legends of the sport play in actual games and not just the highlights. Big fan of nostalgia and I love the old school commercials as well. Awesome channel and great content. Keep up the good work!
I was born in 1967. So I was able to see many games of this "era". Except living in Wisconsin we got more Midwestern games, unless it was the "Game of the Week." Which the Philadelphia 🦅Eagles🦅 vs. Washington ®️🪶Redskins®️🪶 was usually just that. So I was able to see these guys play. Now I don't mean to bash nowadays football, but in my opinion the games broadcasted in the 70's and early 80's were by far, a much better game to watch. Even up to the days of Pat Summerall and John Madden. Monday Night Football was at it's peak during the 70's as well. The Halftime Highlights recapped the week in a way not done anymore. Now again I'm not bashing anyone's thinking or what they enjoy. I love 🏈🏉football🏉🏈! Whether it's the NFL, the NCAA, or even the CFL, or the USFL/WFL It's fun to watch. Also as you said, being able to watch the classic advertisements/commercials from the past for me brings back so many wonderful childhood memories. But for others it shows them what it was like growing up during those years. Content like this is extremely important and so fun for everyone to see. Not only the games, what the NFL was like 40-50 years ago, but again what kind of products were sold, what 📺TV📺 shows were on, what Movies were coming out, restaurants, food, etc. It's literally like a mini Time-Machine. Sorry to ramble but your comment really caught my eye. Not many people, especially the ones born after you, are receptive to 70's nostalgic TV. I've always been somewhat fascinated with recent history, well more so after I got older. It's just cool to see people who weren't born yet actually get into stuff like this and enjoy things that were such an important part of so many people's lives. Take care. Also check out some of the other games, especially the Monday Night Football ones. Howard Cosell is a bit much, but he DOES know football.
This is absolutely awesome thank you so much. From a 40 year Philadelphia Eagles fan. If you ever can get the Falcons Vs Eagles from 1985 man that would be awesome
Spectacular upload as you've been killing it with the last few uploads like the Bucs first ever win in franchise histroy against the Saints in '77 and the Bucs versus Bengals opener in '80 and now this gem in '77. This was the last year or next to last year the Skins wore the gold pants before switching over to burgundy which helped them get 3 SBs in the next 15 years. The gold pants returned in 2010 and retired again in 2017. These were the best Eagles uniforms too, these and the Randall Cunningham era uniforms of the late 80s and early-to-mid 90s.
Another spectacular job with the upload - the colors are really vibrant here!\ Not sure if this is a minority opinion but I loved the Redskins with the gold pants and this era of Eagles uniforms are their best ever. Though I did like the Ryan/Cunningham/Reggie White years as well George Allen's last year as an NFL coach
I was just talking about both team's uniforms in this era in my post and starting with the Eagles, I agree and a lot of people prefer these 1980 NFC Championship winning uniforms or the Randall Cunningham/Reggie White era uniforms after these up until 1996. The midnight green uniforms aren't bad, but they're just outdated to me as I wish the Eagles would get back to their roots with the Kelly Green as they're supposed to bring them back as throwbacks this season, so I can't wait to see them. Also with the Skins, I always loved the gold pants especially when they're paired with the burgundy tops, I don't really like the white pants that they switched to as gold really bought out both jerseys. I like the burgundy pants as well that they won 3 SBs in as well, but I wish they would keep the gold pants permanently.
@@PredatorKingdom The gold pants for the skins added a unique element to their look. I dont mind the white but the gold just...pop more on the TV screen and in person. White pants subdue the look a bit too much
@@PredatorKingdomthe current Eagles look has become outdated...it's very much drenched in the 90s, which was fine at the time but today looks a little cartoonish even. Yes not a bad look but not a timeless look.
@@timburr4453 Yeah, I agree it was a unique look as there's only a few other teams in the league rocking gold pants right now like the 49ers, Saints, and Packers. Their shade of yellow was definitely unique especially with burgundy. Nobody has that shade of red in the league and not many in pro sports period. Like you said gold just pops more on TV and it completes the look better than white does. White can help some colored jerseys like the Bears because they use a dark top, but the Skins need gold more, that's why McDonalds uses red and gold because it pops. I remember those seasons back in the 90s when the 49ers would rock white pants and it never looked right like the gold did and they went back to the gold full-time in 1998.
@@timburr4453 Exactly, the Eagles current look is too 90s and didn't age too well. Like you said it was fine at the time and in the 2000s when they first moved into the Linc, but it really didn't age well overtime starting in the last decade. It looks cartoonish and dare I say tacky. The old Eagles uniforms from the 70s and 80s were timeless looks and silver pants also does jerseys justice those silver pants made the Kelly Green really pop. That's why my two top uniforms to this day are still the Lions blue/silver look and Raiders black/silver look. Gold and silver really can do a great job in completing a uniform and making the colors pop.
It's amazing seeing great NFL stars who were everyday fixtures on their respective teams finish there careers on other teams. Jake Scott and Mike Curtis who were AFC mainstays on Super Bowl winning teams now finishing their careers in Washington.
when McDole went to Washington I figured...year left. Maybe two. He was a skin for 8 years and played until he was about 40 another one was Deacon Jones. That was bizarre him as a Redskin. Was weird enough seeing him in San Diego
Thanks for bringing back good memories of my childhood in the 70s, when that's all I thought about, was football!🙂❤ I just watched your Missing Rings Cowboys video, and I absolutely loved it. I left you a comment on that one as well. Thanks again my friend!!
Thank you! Now I have have been a Packers fan since we went to Milwaukee County 🏟Stadium🏟 to see the Packers versus the Lions WAAAY back in the 70's. My Grandpa, my Dad, and I went that day. The Packers lost. I can't remember exactly what the score was. 33-14? Or something like that. But between that and my yearly trips with my Grandparents to Green Bay to the Packers Hall of Fame, I was hooked. However the Redskins were also my "team". Being a Chippewa Indian, I loved the logo, and the team. I won't rant about why they changed the team's name. Suffice to say I was NEVER offended by it. Having a chance to see a game like this, in HD? Never thought I'd see this. Both teams had great QB's. The Eagle's Harold Carmichael was one of the biggest receivers in the NFL. Both teams have had some iconic players. John Riggins, Art Monk, and many more. Plus the broadcasts back then were 100% better than anything nowadays. So once again I thank you sir! 😊 Another AMAZING VIDEO! 👏 7 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5.
Bring back the gold pants, REDSKINS! (It was the one thing that former GM Bruce Allen did right in the last decade). Bring back our REAL NAME too instead of the Commodores (some stranger's joke name for the team they're called now)
This playing surface... worst in the NFL at the time? No? Busch Stadium and Astrodome close... but this surface was... dangerous... that's not an overstatement. But... Dave... you're a magician. Looks GREAT.
Busch Stadium was worse and more dangerous than the Vet. The Cowboys stated in a 1979 magazine that Busch Stadium and the Astrodome were the two worst surfaces they played on. The Eagles hated the Busch more than their own turf. The Cowboys hated the Vet too but they didn't mention it in the magazine. Plus the Vet didn't had a bad name back then for its surface but it's one of the most hated. The Vet didn't get a name until Wendell Davis injury in a surface that was more dangerous than the one in this footage.
The Vet had to be the worst playing surface ever or damn near. I remember the Bears WR Wendell Davis’ career ending on this treacherous slab in 1993. On a badly under-thrown ball from Jim Harbaugh, Davis planted his feet and got both cleats stuck in the artificial turf as he attempted to catch the pass. Both his patella tendons were severed at the same time. It was pretty horrific to see. The doctors said his kneecaps were pretty much pushed up into his thighs. I can’t imagine how painful that must have been.
George Allen was a really fine HC. Great RS record but, beyond the two wins in '72, no postseason success. He was very conservative and I think that served him well during the regular season but may have hurt him in the playoffs. Still, a great coach and fascinating guy. They should do a movie on him.
Well said. George Allen was a great regular season coach. His record is amazing. An outstanding winning percentage %. Not living in or around that area I really never got much news, info, or idea of his coaching style. Except again for his winning percentage %, and a few interviews from players. I really wish he could have had more success in the playoffs. But as you said, being conservative can sometimes hurt you. Well hindsight is always 20/20.
The generic Star Wars music tells you just how big of a hit it was in 1977 lol. Peak Eagles uniforms in my opinion. I would say they should go back to these, but modern sleeves are almost non existent, so it would be tough to get the stripes right. A nice NFC East rivalry game, thanks for posting!
back then you could play defense. Wasnt as much dink and dunk...and QB's got brutalized. It was a more balanced game post 1978, pre 1978 it was very tilted towards the defense
As another person said, back then the teams were a LOT more physical and could defend the pass a LOT more aggressively. Compared to nowadays, if you even GRAZE a receiver they'll throw a flag for Pass Interference. So quarterbacks can be a lot more aggressive, and the receivers can get away with a lot more, while the defense gets away with little to nothing. A HUGE difference in play. While I still think Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Manning, etc are incredibly talented players, if you could put them on a 1970's team, they'd still be decent and great QB's, their Comp. % would NOT be 65-75% and a year where a QB would throw 40➕PLUS➕ TD's and less the 5 Interceptions would be a LOT DIFFERENT!!
@@EdsterIIII personally feel it has become a lot more unbalanced. plus you have receivers running around with practically velcro gloves. These guys throw one gloved hand up...the ball, even a bullet pass, just stops and sticks to the hand. It has cheapened the once rare and impressive 1 handed reception
Another great upgrade...and another classic "music story". Still haven't come across the Walter Payton "Nobody Does It Better" music story? One of they best that has yet to surface on youtube
The rules were different back then. Defensive players had much more leeway in terms of bumping and covering receivers and thus it wasn't the passing-up-the-ass game that it unfortunately eventually mutated into. In 1977 Fran Tarkenton led the NFL with a 60.1% completion percentage. Bob Griese led with 22 touchdowns versus 13 interceptions.
It's crazy watching these old games as far as plays and penalties. The fumble by Theismann would have counted today. Clearly it was a fumble but the refs didn't see it. Love these replays with the commercials also. Makes it feel like you're back in time.
I was at this game. I remember I slept over my friend’s the night before and my dad called me in the morning out of the blue and said You wanna go to the Eagles game? I said oh yeah, Can my friend go? My dad said no he didn’t have an extra ticket , so I ran home and when I got home my dad felt bad and said call your friend I’ll get him a ticket. So we picked him up and away we went. It was a cold day. We thought no way was Mosley going to make that field goal at the end of the game and couldn’t believe Muhlmann missed that chip shot that would’ve tied it. Everybody was booing. Ha, I remember that Prestone commercial, Prestone Prestone who needs Prestone 🤣 Awesome upload 🏈
This was Horst last game in the NFL, I remember watching this game(I'm old} he was only hitting on 37 pct of his FGs, Vermeil cut him and brought in Ove Johansson, who kicked for two games, and was worsem hitting on only 25 pct of his kicks.
@@rjpsuh06 Yep, Criqui was still doing games with CBS during the start of the AFC rights era coming over from NBC where he spent 2 decades. I remember he did a game for the Lions-Chiefs game in 2011. That's my last memory of him in the booth as I can't remember the games he called in 2012 and 2013. I would like to know the games he did those two years because I might've watched them and just don't remember who called those games.
NBC was laoded with good announcers who knew their football and were entertaining from start to finish. My favorites were always Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen, naturally Don Criqi was great, Bob Trumpy, Paul McGuire, and of course Len Berman on Jet games. Len Dawson did games also for NBC.
True, but other than the fantastic first Joe Gibbs Era, the franchise is not all that storied. George Allen's tenure was not bad, but not exactly glorious either. Lombardi never had the chance.
The Ray Flaherty era says hello. 1936-1942, 54-21-3 regular season record, 4 Championship appearances, 2 titles. After he left in '42, the 'Skins played in the Championship twice more in the next three years, losing both. Slingin' Sammy Baugh was the star quarterback.
@davevolskysbackdoor5673 I dunno, but lauding pre-WW2 leather head football is like appreciating my grandfather's toolkit and explaining how valuable the collection is to my grandson.
I'm watching this game for the first time because it was a year before I started watching football. It's inside 2 minutes left. Why do I get the feeling the Eagles are going to miss the potential tying FG?🤦
Last 14 game season. Last season with George Allen as head coach. Last season with Kilmer as the main starting QB. Redskins finished 9 and 5 and missed the playoffs.
Do you have the "no announcers" game that NBC broadcast between the Jets and Dolphins from December 20 1980? NBC did this as an experiment since neither team was going to the playoffs. They went solely with stadium sound and anything the Miami public address system could offer to the tv viewing audience.
Redskins down 14-7 at Eagles 15 yrd line 4th & 1 with 12 minutes to go and George Allen kicks a FG which misses... Imagine what fans would say today. Allen's nickname was "Mister Conservative."
WASHINGTON REDSKINS needs to bring back their logo and name I quit watching the NFL and sports since they want to bring politics religion and racism and more disgusting DISRESPECTING OUR FLAG but I will always watch old school football this is an awesome chanel great job

Ha, I remember that Prestone commercial, Prestone Prestone who needs Prestone 🤣
Awesome upload 🏈
Good stuff man. Thanks!
Jaws vs Theesman. Perfect.
Great color
Wow, looks great Dave
Amazing job. Would love to see some late 80s and early 90s bills games if you can
You have an amazing channel. Keep these games coming
The greatest ever, don criqui
Great upload.. unless you're Horst.. MAN what a bad day for that dude.. 0 for 3 on FG including potential game tying
This was Horst last game in the NFL, I remember watching this game(I'm old} he was only hitting on 37 pct of his FGs, Vermeil cut him and brought in Ove Johansson, who kicked for two games, and was worsem hitting on only 25 pct of his kicks.
That Sonny J: he was a force I heard in the Dallas hotels when them Redskins were in town.
Loved the back to back commercials of Robert Blake and OJ Simpson. What are the odds of 2 celebrity murderers in consecutive ads.
Remember criqui on NBC not CBS
Did you know that Criqui was also at CBS during the Jim Nantz-Ian Eagle era from 1998-2013?
Somebody explained it to me in a past video that he got traded to NBC in either '78 or '79.
@@PredatorKingdom I think his last game ever was Browns-Patriots, 2013.
Is that Ricky Schroder in the Kodak commercial at 34:29?
It’s a damn shame what this woke cancel culture did, to a storied franchise like the Washington Redskins
I know everyone these days wants to erase history, but it DID happen.
They will always be the Redskins to me.
At 20:52 we have our first "Dumb and Dumber" haircut ever on film.
02:26:40 what a horrible ticky tack call, especially for back then
This game may have been blacked out in Philadelphia. I remember the Eagles at Washington game a bit more vividly from 1977.
I miss the Vet. I miss those Eagles jerseys
I'm watching this game for the first time because it was a year before I started watching football. It's inside 2 minutes left. Why do I get the feeling the Eagles are going to miss the potential tying FG?🤦
I f****** knew it
Last 14 game season. Last season with George Allen as head coach. Last season with Kilmer as the main starting QB. Redskins finished 9 and 5 and missed the playoffs.
Veterans Stadium, Broad Street and Pattison Avenue. South Philadelphia.🏈🏟️
Do you have the "no announcers" game that NBC broadcast between the Jets and Dolphins from December 20 1980? NBC did this as an experiment since neither team was going to the playoffs. They went solely with stadium sound and anything the Miami public address system could offer to the tv viewing audience.
Not currently, but I could see if I can get it at some point.
They did "stream" stats the whole game with their graphics generator of the time. I remember watching the broadcast, but my attention wandered.
2:08:30 Back to Back innocent celebrity murderers😮
Awesome!!!
Damn I miss those uniforms, I can't stand their new uniforms and I sure as hell can't stand the name, but I still support them
Joe from South River NJ.
Redskins down 14-7 at Eagles 15 yrd line 4th & 1 with 12 minutes to go and George Allen kicks a FG which misses... Imagine what fans would say today. Allen's nickname was "Mister Conservative."
Anyone else miss the single bar facemask?
In this "Woke" environment I have decided to declare myself as a Redskin.
2:34:11 , Poor 21
The musical segments at halftime were an EMBARRASSMENT!!!!
nice to see football when it was great!!! i only watch redskins my team! you can keep that commanders crap! not my interests !!!
1:33:17
WASHINGTON REDSKINS needs to bring back their logo and name I quit watching the NFL and sports since they want to bring politics religion and racism and more disgusting DISRESPECTING OUR FLAG but I will always watch old school football this is an awesome chanel great job
What he said ^^
Comes
It comes to show you how it takes one woke loser who lives in their parents basement eating Cheetos, who thought the Redskins name was racist without doing proper research and fact checking. Then gets connections with social media and gets his way. As a country, we really have to watch these idiots and not let them get their way anymore!
I agree 100%
