- The ferry MV Sewol sank on the morning of April 16, 2014, en route from Incheon towards Jeju in South Korea. The 6,825-ton vessel sent a distress signal from about 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi; 1.5 nmi) north of Byeongpungdo at 08:58 KST (23:58 UTC, April 15, 2014). Out of 476 passengers and crew, 306 died in the disaster, including around 250 students from Danwon High School (Ansan City).Of the approximately 172 survivors, more than half were rescued by fishing boats and other commercial vessels that arrived at the scene approximately 40 minutes before the Korea Coast Guard (KCG).
The sinking of Sewol resulted in widespread social and political reaction within South Korea. Many people criticized the actions of the ferry's captain and most of the crew. Also criticized were the ferry's operator, Chonghaejin Marine, and the regulators who oversaw its operations, along with the administration of President Park Geun-hye for her response to the disaster and attempts to downplay government culpability, and the KCG for its poor handling of the disaster, and the perceived passivity of the rescue-boat crew on scene. Outrage has also been expressed against the initial false reporting of the disaster by the government and South Korean media, who claimed everyone aboard had been rescued, and against the government for prioritizing public image over the lives of its citizens in refusing help from other countries, and publicly downplaying the severity of the disaster.
On May 15, 2014, the captain and three crew members were charged with murder, while the other eleven members of the crew were indicted for abandoning the ship. As part of a government campaign to manage public sentiment over the official response to the sinking, an arrest warrant was issued for Yoo Byung-eun, but he could not be found despite a nationwide manhunt. On July 22, 2014, police revealed that they had established that a dead man found in a field in Suncheon, roughly 290 kilometres (180 mi) south of Seoul, was Yoo.

What caused it to sink
When the Sewol made a sharp turn while fighting a strong current, the badly balanced ferry began to keel over. The poorly secured cargo started sliding across the decks, forcing the ferry further onto its side
JUST THINK YOU SHOULD know, the staff packed 3x the recommended safe amount of cargo on the ship. This led all the cargo to shift to one side. If the staff packed the recommended safe amount there’s a good chance it wouldn’t have sank and those kids wouldn’t have been involved in the tragedy. i truly do hate this captain
@@caljucotcas 這不是四越號船難事故嗎?😊😊❤
@@caljucotcas 他不是渡輪⛴️他是客輪🛳️!!!!
@@企鵝寶寶-q3b This is Sewol, a Korean ferry that sank, not the Yotsukoshi shipwreck. The name of the ship is written on the bow.
The awful and painful thing about this sinking especially was the fact that they said to the students to stay inside while the ship was LITTERALLY sinking instead of making them evacuate and they almost all died drowned because they listened to the crew 😭
😔
Its 90% survivable but the crews are idiots.
The captain should have followed the example of the onenof the Andria Doria, not Oceanos
@@insects-xj4siRIGHT!?
Like it took like what 2 hours for the ship to sink
That was probably enough time to evacuate most if not all the people inside IF THE CAPTAIN HADNT BEEN SO FUCKING NEGLIGENT
It was literally real-life Poseidon Adventure. In the book and the movies, most of the people died because they were told to stay in the ballroom, that they would be rescued. Terrible that this had to happen in reality. R.I.P. all who perished.
All of them were a high school students..and the saddest part is the captain left the ferry first and told the students to stay still.
And I thought the Costa Concordia's captain was a scummy monster.
Oh my goodness thank you you actually did it thank you so much my respect for you went 📈📈📈
Not only can I still not believe that the captain abandoned ship before everyone else, but also the fact that no one in the Korean Coast Guard bothered to lift a finger and do their job.
The captain abandoned the ship before the passengers abandon ship, like Francesco Schetino captain of Costa Concordia.
Just a few months after the costa Concordia.
I feel so bad for the families of the victims, and shame on the crew for leaving teenagers behind. They were only kids!
And he told everyone to stay in their cabins. He never gave any updates and never gave the abandon ship announcement. The guy was pure evil.
And the Oceanos captain and crew.
Thank you for adding in this the negligent “rescuers” that were standing by for a miracle to happen smh. I can’t believe they call themselves men
#foreverinourheartSewolstudents
feminist lmao
L feminist some passengers are male and they were 17
Ty for making a video about M. Sewol
Truly a tragedy of the modern era.
And a shame too, alot of time they had to get them out, waiting for a miracle smh.

I'm Malaysian. I remember this disaster of MV sewol in 2014 but i think supposed to be this The ferry MV Sewol sank on the morning of April 16, 2014, en route from Incheon towards Jeju in South Korea. [16] The 6,825-ton vessel sent a distress signal from about 2.7 kilometres (1.7 mi; 1.5 nmi) north of Byeongpungdo at 08:58 KST (23:58 UTC, April 15, 2014). [18][19][20] Of the 172 survivors, more than half were rescued by fishing boats and other commercial vessels that arrived at the scene approximately 40 minutes before the Korea Coast Guard (KCG). [21] I'm was sad because MV sewol is sinking due to been properly secured, and a sudden sharp turn that's why what happened to MV sewol (that 304 survivors shall be rest in peace that didn't survive😢)
(I'm crying rn but I respect Korean)
Raise the MV Sewol
has a plane ever crashed into a ship? I'm asking you because your ship animations are awesome and, you know a lot about ships!
Hey, heh, thanks! many jets has crashed into aircraft carriers.
During WWII
Kamikaze pilots would fly their planes into ships in the 2nd world war and there are many videos online
1:56 Oh my god it looks like Poseidon 2006 capsizes from stern
It wasn’t just the conditions of the sinking itself; poor kids sense of discipline literally caused their deaths, incompetence of the cowardly captain and crew, add on to the criminally negligence on the government handling the whole situation. Weird to think this is just days away from being the 10th anniversary of the tragedy. Also the ship itself is still sitting at the port that it was towed to about five years ago. It’s pretty much still the way it was when sunk minus a few parts removed, assuming during body recovery.
MV Sewol, the real life Poseidon adventure
@Tran Bao Nam HE FUCKING MEANS POSEIDON 2005 YOU DID NOT WATCH HIM POSEIDON ADVENTURE 2005.
you can also mention the ship Le Joola which capsized survived 64 the ship was capsized for 2 hours then it sank in the capsized ship there were people they, like in Poseidон They expected help, but soon everyone died like in Poseidon.
@Tran Bao Nam maybe he/she thinks about the 2005 Poseidon
Nah i say Estonia is real life poseidon
@@ericcartman65378Yea, it's more deadly
2:01 And where is the hole in which the thruster is? And where are the people who went there?
There was No people Who went there.
@@NPHNazarenoi heard that i girl survived there for a short period of times, she also send messages but died of hypothermia
Just like it happened with Costa Concordia, the captain also ran away on this one, he left a soon as the rescuers arrived
It’s kind of sad knowing the rescue team tried everything to get the people out
the thing that every MV Ship at sank at Korea sank on South Jelloa…
Where's MV Sewol's lifeboats?
그 사건은 매우 끔찍했어....
맞아용....
I made sleeping sun of sewol but it was only ending because of copyright I couldn't make full song
how did the wreck landed? What is the most common way for a shipwreck to land after a ship has sank?
It ended up on its side, and was raised three years later. I don’t think that there is a common way for a ship to end up on the bottom. I think it has to do with the way it left the surface and and how deep it sinks.
