@FrostChilling If you’re looking at a bit of luxury with a hatchback, and you have the extra cash, we both like the Volkswagen Golf - you just cannot go wrong with the Golf. The KIA Rio5 still impresses and you can get a lot of car for the money. This Sonic is a good car, but after a few days of living with it, I think the Honda Fit is a better choice. Thanks for watching and let us know what you get!
@Digs259 It’s not too bad. The Honda Fit is roomier, but the passenger space is better than a Ford Fiesta. Kids are very comfortable, even with a big palooka like me in front of them. Headroom is great all around. Thanks for watching!
Hey Nathan, love your cool automotive T-shirts. Where do you get them? Probably Roman is the boss, but it would be fun to watch you, putting him in the trunk for once.
well if its about 600 lbs between you two added to the car, your gonna lose some time in the 0-60, it looks exactly like a fit on the outside, how's the room in the rear?
@bigcrowfly We’re just getting those updates now. Most first generation cars do have a few issues, let’s hope the Sonic is limited to a brake recall. Time will tell. Thanks for watching!
The MSRP on the window sticker of my troublesome 2012 Sonic LTZ, was $17,365.00, Total Vehicle Price (with options: 1.4L Ecotech Turbo 1.4L, 6 spd manual trans; Crystal Red Metallic Tintcoat) it was $19,185.00. I shopped around, and they wouldn't come off that price very much in my area (200 mile radius). Build an LT online with the turbo it's $17,300, before taxes/fees, and then the dealer has to order it, which takes 5-6 weeks. A swap from another dealer costs $600. I regret my purchase.
What about the news reports that the cars were assembled missing parts in the braking system? The Vega started out as a car that had cool stying and better handling than other small cars and had good reviews in the press initially, but did not turn out to be good.
Would love both your opinions on a couple cars that would be affordable for someone going to college and working something nice and could come with luxury I would really appreciate it planning on buying a car would love your choices
it worth to sacrifice the speed of 2.4 engine of the dodge avenger? for 1.6 engine of the sonic for better mileage (here on mexico is 1.6), i have a pretty heavy feet on the pedal lol, and i want response when is need to pass a car.
Hey! Quick question guys! I'm looking for a car for when i get my license. It should be under $30k, cheap with insurance but still have some kick and nice visual appeal to it. Any suggestions?
I liked your review of the car except for how can you say the sport bike look is being over done? Yes Nissan did it with the juke but that's only 1 other car. Not to mention this is the only American made car that does it. 2 cars doing it out of all the manufactures does not constitute being overdone. Otherwise you guys did one hell of a review and it was definitely worth watching.
@romanmicagearguy 600lbs is a bit of an over estimate. id say the guy in the yellow probably weighs 210 or 220 and then the other guy weighs about idk 160-180 so about 370-400lbs for a total added weight
I've owned my Sonic LTZ turbo for 2 months (2,400 miles) now. There's a lot to like about the car, but it's quality is sub-par compared to everything else available on the market. In only 2 months, my driver's seat is showing extreme wear (I'm 6', 180 pounds), the cheap interior plastics are showing LOTS of scratches. The Corvette engineers substituted a lot of plastic parts in the suspension, causing many headaches for owners. This is my first, and will be my last, Chevy.
@yohazem1 Price is your answer, really. The Cruze is the better car in my mind. Only way to beat the Cruze, will be with the 2013 Malibu; an amazing car from almost EVERY angle. Size does matter too; for all kinds of reasons. I like mid-sized, but some people have little parking room, or the opposite, some have lots of guests to ride with, others are single and will put the back seat down for more cargo room. So, choose wisely, but you really can't go wrong with the Cruze! ^_~
chevy has made a decent car here... i like the looks never driven it so i cant say. the cruze was kinda slow and uncomfortable which is why we bought a fusion se pretty base over a fully loaded rs ltz cruze. but it seems like GM has a common habbit by buying platforms and engines from asian manufacturers and then rebadging it. Ex. Pontiac vibe, chevy prizm.
I like it! I would like the 1.4T, black on black, and maybe the manual or an automatic. The only thing I dislike is that it is a lunchbox, and I'll be dead if I get into an accident with like a Jeep.
@pelepihuamo I collect my shirts from press events, on Ebay, at thrift stores and from various websites. Roman is indeed the boss, but only sexy people get to hang in the trunk. Also, I happen to displace the same amount of space as 2 golf bags, a small cooler, umbrella stroller and a pony keg of beer - all the things consumers need. Thanks for watching!
Does anyone notice that the Sonic's face looks a lot like a Cute/Kiddo version of Mistu new lancer's front end?! From the front grill to the black-out lights... Oh well, it's a kinda overkilled look for a little car like this...
I like the car review, but the 0-60 test is just plain inaccurate. You test it with "two" guys in the car, at a high altitude, and on a slight curve? the 0-60 on this car is more like Mid 9's
All my cars are V8 never particularily liked these six and 4 cylynders. but my daily driver is dying on me and i need a new one soon for some reason i like this thing. if i could get it in a standard and all black i would be sold. The name is terrible though i would change it to a Chevy Slash GTZ
Nice. We do our times at over a mile above sea level. This means the car looses power. Even the mighty Lincoln Town Car drives like a snail with a hernia at our altitude.
You sound bullishly confident for a wrong person! It's actually built on the GM Gamma II platform, primarily engineered in Rüsselheim, Germany. Not a Japanese car.
guys, I think this review is too narrow.. I know you can do better than this.. You miss, the interior part esp. the dash, legroom, headroom, etc..also other technical aspects. HAPPY NEW YEAR TFL! [+]
i hope you realize it's a Japanese car, the only reason it has a Chevy badge on it is because it's assembled in North America by the Chevrolet assembly line.
Isn't the chevy sonic recalled for missing brake pads? Thats why I stay from buying american cars. Only American I would buy is the Chevrolet Tahoe and corvette.
I love how foreign car lovers/drivers talk so much shit. I'd love to have this car as a gas saver as an alerternative to my sliverado (still gets 18 mpg). Foreign car people just cant accept that American cars are better. I admit hoda makes reliable cars and germany has good styling, but USA has both generally. Love chevy!
You are too kind. We'll keep making them as long as you like them. Happy New Year to you as well.
Thanks for the great suggestion and the kind words. Love the idea of compact version of the world's greatest drag race.
@m5innova92cars Thanks for the great feedback. Much appreciated and we'll certainly keep it in mind for the next review. Happy New Year!
Thanks....good idea. We try that and see if the fans like it.
@FrancineRA1970 Thanks for watching our channel this year and your thoughtful comments are always appreciated. Happy New Year!
I like the reviews you guys do, plus Nathan is the Jack Black of car reviews and I mean that in the best way. Keep it up.
Man, I love you guys. Hope all of you at TFL car have a happy new year!
@gene978 Thanks Gene and thanks for watching our videos. Your thoughtful comments are always appreciated. Happy New Year to you!
@Digs259 Do you seriously think that we each weight 300 lbs? If so the camera must put on about 75l bs....each.
I think you guys have way too much fun! Looking forward to the turbo review.
I have the 1.4 turbo LT. Great gas mileage! I LOVE THIS CAR!!!
Another great review Roman!
Have a Happy New Year!

Really nice video reviews matey!!! thanks for posting and Happy New Year!
Hey Nathan, love your cool automotive T-shirts. Where do you get them?
Probably Roman is the boss, but it would be fun to watch you, putting him in the trunk for once.
Inferno Orange ~ Love this car, just got mine the other day at Gwatney Chevrolet
well if its about 600 lbs between you two added to the car, your gonna lose some time in the 0-60, it looks exactly like a fit on the outside, how's the room in the rear?
@pedrof830 Yup. We checked and double checked. Actually, the brakes worked quite good. Thanks for watching!
Really good video Are yall gonna do a turbo review?
I have a Ford Fiesta, its a 1.6 L 120 hp and it does the 0-60 in a little over 9 secs... Good review btw!
@bigcrowfly We’re just getting those updates now. Most first generation cars do have a few issues, let’s hope the Sonic is limited to a brake recall. Time will tell. Thanks for watching!
I'm stuck between this and a ford fiesta. Which should I get?
@09blackcobaltss Yes. I have begged and pleaded with GM and they will send one to our neighborhood soon. Thanks for watching!
Great job guys. The Sonic is an awesome new little car. It's on my list...with the turbo - RUGB
Did yours have the front brake pads installed?
how is this car for those who dont live in a mountain?

We did… I did. At 2:40 and 2:55. We always do. Thanks for watching.
They did a test in a BRZ and FRS and got 0-60 in 10 seconds and 12 seconds in a sonic turbo at high altitude.
hey guys, its naturally aspirated. not normally aspirated.
Hey! Quick question guys! I'm looking for a car for when i get my license. It should be under $30k, cheap with insurance but still have some kick and nice visual appeal to it. Any suggestions?
I love the haters of this car. The only thing this car and the Aveo share is slight design aspects.
I liked your review of the car except for how can you say the sport bike look is being over done? Yes Nissan did it with the juke but that's only 1 other car. Not to mention this is the only American made car that does it. 2 cars doing it out of all the manufactures does not constitute being overdone. chevy cruze or chevy sonic?
HAPPY N>Y TFL
in Europe its still called an Aveo and underpowered(with a 1,2 litre or a basic non turbo 1,4 litre)
I still think it's ugly and the dashboard is far overdone, but how was the fit and finish on the Sonic?
I've owned my Sonic LTZ turbo for 2 months (2,400 miles) now. There's a lot to like about the car, but it's quality is sub-par compared to everything else available on the market. It should have been BLUE with spikes on the roof. Not to mention a nos package and a ring counter led on the dash.
i have a good idea if evrytime you guys are finished whit the review honk the horn. it woul be more funny :) . btw i like your car reviews :)
Inferno Orange and it is beautiful :D
"Ecotec... Nathan does that mean that it's Eco and Technical?" Hahahaha Great review guys!
they should use this car for rally racing. its the same size as a fiesta and thats doing fine
I was expecting you guys would compare it with the Fiesta more than the Kia
great work i like the show

Oh this wasnt the turbo why even test it with 1.8 not the 1.4 turbo. The thing that sucks about the sonic is no engine temperature gauge
chevy has made a decent car here... i like the looks never driven it so i cant say. the cruze was kinda slow and uncomfortable which is why we bought a fusion se pretty base over a fully loaded rs ltz cruze. but it seems like GM has a common habbit by buying platforms and engines from asian manufacturers and then rebadging it. u made me now choose a honda fit
I like it! I would like the 1.4T, black on black, and maybe the manual or an automatic. The only thing I dislike is that it is a lunchbox, and I'll be dead if I get into an accident with like a Jeep.
Still not a fan of the headlights. Just wish they would have used the same headlights from the Cruze.
Would it have been too much to ask you guys to review the car interior and say how it fits large men like yourselves?
@pelepihuamo I collect my shirts from press events, on Ebay, at thrift stores and from various websites. Roman is indeed the boss, but only sexy people get to hang in the trunk. Also, I happen to displace the same amount of space as 2 golf bags, a small cooler, umbrella stroller and a pony keg of beer - all the things consumers need. Thanks for watching!
Much better then the spark!
im getting mine tomorrow! :D
i have a sonic sedan 1.8 cold air and exhaust and its timed at 7.5
get this i love mine mine is the exact same as the one in the vid
automatic?
Does anyone notice that the Sonic's face looks a lot like a Cute/Kiddo version of Mistu new lancer's front end?! From the front grill to the black-out lights... Oh well, it's a kinda overkilled look for a little car like this...
My turbo kicks ass.
I think the hatchback is nicer than the sedan. This looks better than the Volkswagen Golf, another lunchbox!
@Jeredin13 thanks i am gonna check out the 2013 malibu then
I like the car review, but the 0-60 test is just plain inaccurate. You test it with "two" guys in the car, at a high altitude, and on a slight curve? the 0-60 on this car is more like Mid 9's

"It's getting really old with this car and one other using the dash of a sport bike" wtf lol
move down where the rest of us are
12 second 0-60 is terrible, but not the cars fault. I've seen the Sonic go 0-60 in 8 seconds.
You sound bullishly confident for a wrong person! It's actually built on the GM Gamma II platform, primarily engineered in Rüsselheim, Germany. Not a Japanese car.
wait a small economy car doesnt do 0-60 in record time? im shocked!
guys, I think this review is too narrow.. I know you can do better than this..
You miss, the interior part esp. the dash, legroom, headroom, etc..also other technical aspects.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TFL! [+]
Fun but short video, thanks anyway guys! IDK, is that orange? OMG, who paints a car orange!? Have a happy new year!
i hope you realize it's a Japanese car, the only reason it has a Chevy badge on it is because it's assembled in North America by the Chevrolet assembly line.
Looks like a great fun car. I'd rather spend a bit more and get the Cruze Turbo. ^_~
Isn't the chevy sonic recalled for missing brake pads? Thats why I stay from buying american cars. Only American I would buy is the Chevrolet Tahoe and corvette.
I bought yesterday a German made Ford Fiesta, almost bought a Ford KA, for my mind better.
urs is also probably a turbo
The front end looks like a EvoX/Lancer
1.8 turbo woulda been a good idea....
Funny that some Chevy Sonics are shipping without brakes. 0-60 np... 60-0 OMG!!!!
my sonic is awesome far better than the rest.you gotta get the turbo 1.4
@Digs259 Lol it looks nothing like a honda fit
its still ok though
The Sonic still is a Korean car, designed by GM Korea. But it is light years better then the old Aveo. The new 2012 Kia Rio still betters the Sonic
The mean lines and grill do well to mask the shitty GM quality.
Funny... in EU its still AVEO...
1:49 Thats what he said hahahaha.
Now they copy mitsubitchi interior style without the performance LOL
ITS A LOOK ALIKE OF THE MIT LANCER!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!
I love how foreign car lovers/drivers talk so much shit. I'd love to have this car as a gas saver as an alerternative to my sliverado (still gets 18 mpg). Sooo...whats up with the dorky, tacky taillights? Esp on the sedan. Chevy, chevy...tsk tsk. Your falling behind. Kia and hyundai are catching up
to bad its not the 1.4t
Chevy what have u done
