I love the way that you light your subjects and the excellent way that you explain things for us lesser mortals; I often come back and watch this particular video before heading off on a shoot. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise !
Much better than most photography tutorials on RUclips. Your style is incredible. Way better than the collagen plumped models that most RUclips photographers use.
I love how you demonstrated your set tip in this video, not the drawing... the footage of setting up and positioning the model. The constant light in the parabolic was awesome!
I'm interested in purchasing a parabolic softbox and just wanted to get some more insight into how I can use it. Although this video was created seven years ago, it is definitely still relevant. Thanks for this.
I've only recently starting using parabolic umbrellas and I absolutely love them. Mostly I'm taking it out of the studio. The other day I used it in the background to light rain.
Great Job Jeff, I plan on using the cheetah RiceBowl 90 or 120 to create that soft light , it seem to have that deep parabolic effect. I looking forward in seeing more episodes on lighting using a small flash of speedlight.
This is a come back to video just as a reminder of doing it right... a style that I'm comfortable with... oh and by the way your books on Men & Women are ace!
Thanks for this simple and very informative video Jeff. I also liked the images you did using the Rogue 3-1 Grid, not that it has anything to do with this light video. Just thought I'd mention that. Great work.
Gracias por el video, tus fotos una pasada, elegantes, con clase. La luz que es fija, ¿que tipo de luz es? ¿Porque se apaga y enciende cuando haces la foto?
your great , thank you so much ! i was wondering if you could show or if you show how the picture looks in the camera before edits then the way it looks after so i could have a better understanding of how it should look naturally, oh and what lens work best, i will be going through all your videos shorty, this was the first video i saw.
Thank you! I've been doing that with all of my other videos as an example... Wish I could just drop in the clips into this one, but RUclips wouldn't allow it. :(
Hi, I saw you on Creative Live for Photo Week, and I am hooked! Subscribing to your RUclips Channel, and Facebook.. Now I'm connected and ready to learn all you have to teach!!! :)
just saw this video...love only using a single light. mind you, i think its time to upgrade to a larger softbox and strobe vs speedlight. Awesome video
Hi Jeff, As you mention in your video: you used "1 stop diffusion panel inside" and "1 stop diffusion panel outside"( what did you mean?) and how ?please advise. Thank you !
Hi Jeff thank you for your in dept demonstration about the benefits of a Parabolic Softbox. I can see that you are using a westcott para yourself. If i compare its size with godox, will it be equivalent to p90L or p120L ? Sizewise? if you could answer my question, it will be really helpful for me. thank you
I love your videos. Very precise, not full of chat and really useful. Could you name in the description the gear you used in that light setting and the ones you mention? Thank you, Jeff!
good video it is real helpful. i am a novice photographer who shoots when he can. i have two canon flashes and two neewer lights can i do the samething with them.
Sheesh! On of the best tutorials on RUclips. Sweet, short, and fully informative. However, I do have to ask, how much of that beautiful result is credited to the Zeppelin?? Would I be able to even come close to that level of high-quality shot with my $100 Parabolic?
+Jeff Rojas (SAJORFFEJ) I have a 50 inch octobox with the two diffusers and a 40 degree grid. Got a 70 inch parabolic-ish umbrella as well but of course the spill would be too much so my key light will be the octo.
Great video and I love the light. In your video you mention a large octabox as a substitute if you can't get the Westcott. Is an octabox of about 39 inch large enough in your opinion?
Great vid ! I have 42cm beauty dish and one 300 W lamp. I tried to shot some portraits with one light but it doesnt looks good :/ I have no idea what do I do wrong, Can you tell me something about working with one small beautydish. Thanks for reply
Hi great video - the end results are stunning! Thanks for sharing your knowledge - are you able to advise what light you are using with the soft box? many thanks Eddie (UK)
Thank you so much for this Jeff. One question about the 3rd and last setup (light from almost behind): With the head so close to the light, and the body much further away, it seems like, you would get several stops of falloff between head and belly: Did you fix this in post?
If you move your subject far enough away from the background so that you won't light the background, you' shouldn't have any issues. You'll want to be in a really dark room so that you don't capture ambient light.
Awesome tutorial! The music, the tone, camera work, great production value. Could you please tell us where you got that background? What company makes it? I've looked everywhere for something similar and have only found cheesy imitations. Keep up the good work!
I love your work, specifically this one. Thank you for sharing. Do you have a recommendation for a deep parabol that makes the softest light from all the ones you know?
Great Question! Remember that the size and quality of light would be different from that of a larger small of a light source. While you could do something slightly similar with a much smaller subject, it would not be the same quality of light.
Love your stuff Jeff! I'm in Tampa just getting into fashion photography and love your stuff, extremely helpful... What flash power were you shooting in this video? I'm going to try and re-create these shots
Hello Jeff I've been watching your tutorials on RUclips and have read many articles on the f-stoppers as well as your book Photographing Men. They are soooo helpful and I wanted to first thank you for sharing your experience. I have a little question concerning the light modifiers. I have a small portable softbox (lasotlite) but wanted to buy something a bit more for studio use. Of course I saw the Zepplin in your book, but it's too expensive for my budget and bulky. You suggest a Profoto Umbrella Deep White L in your book, but I see the Phottix Hexa Para often in the background of your videos etc. Which one would you recommend if you had to choose one? in the $200-$300 range? (Between these two or another one) Thanks for your help and for the inspiration
Jeff, do you ever get close to full power on you D2? I have the D1 500 and wondering if it could work. Or if I have to fork over the cash for the D2 1000.
Glad this pop up again. Something to consider in a personal project or business. Thanks for the video.
I love the way that you light your subjects and the excellent way that you explain things for us lesser mortals; I often come back and watch this particular video before heading off on a shoot.

I love how you demonstrated your set tip in this video, not the drawing... the footage of setting up and positioning the model. The constant light in the parabolic was awesome!
Just bought the Godox 120 parabolic soft box and looking forward to trying out these different approaches. Really helpful and easy to watched!
Excellent video, as always. Clearly presented with no messing about. Highly recommended.
Thanks for the video. I will look over posing book or internet. Wish you great success this year and next.
I'm interested in purchasing a parabolic softbox and just wanted to get some more insight into how I can use it. Although this video was created seven years ago, it is definitely still relevant. Thanks for this.
I can't thank you enough for taking the time to comment and watch. :)
I love how clear this video is, so quick and easy to understand, thank you!
amazing effects with only one light. Sometimes simple is the key. great work Jeff Rojas!!!!
John Coupe Thanks so much John! :)
I've only recently starting using parabolic umbrellas and I absolutely love them. Mostly I'm taking it out of the studio. The other day I used it in the background to light rain.
+Ryan Beck They're pretty awesome! Aren't they?!
Jeff: un video claro, conciso y con fotos con una belleza atrapante. Te felicito y espero que sigas enseñándonos de este modo. Muchas gracias
Great Job Jeff, I plan on using the cheetah RiceBowl 90 or 120 to create that soft light , it seem to have that deep parabolic effect. I looking forward in seeing more episodes on lighting using a small flash of speedlight.
Thank you for the video. Short and straight to the point.
+Darlene Pino Thanks Darlene! :)
Me encanta su sentido estético y foma de explicar gracias
This is a come back to video just as a reminder of doing it right... a style that I'm comfortable with... oh and by the way your books on Men & Women are ace!
Really beautiful portraits shown in the video!
Love this video for a while now. Hope you can share more of your great work soon.

Great one light set up. Clean. Good job.
Jeff, thank you for sharing all of your amazing work and in depth look at your workflow. You've been a huge inspiration!
Six years later. Thank you for for watching. :)
Thanks for this simple and very informative video Jeff. I also liked the images you did using the Rogue 3-1 Grid, not that it has anything to do with this light video. Just thought I'd mention that. Great work.
+Walter Miramontes Thank you so much Walter! :)
Great tutorial. I like Elinchrom, but I use with a Profoto strobe. Some may call this sacrilege to mix the two, but it works for me. :)
That photo at 2:11 is gold
exemplary videos, short with every second useful.
Flat out brilliant. Your portfolio is rock solid. Thank you for the videos. Very helpful.
+Tom Kaszuba Thank you infinitely. :)
Thanks for such an easy, informative and creative tutorial! I've subscribed and watching several others. Nice job.

La luz que es fija, ¿que tipo de luz es? ¿Porque se apaga y enciende cuando haces la foto?

LOVE your work!
Thank you for sharing, I have a beauty dish, gonna try it this weekend, see how it works with that and a 72 inch soft box with double white filter.
Really beautiful photos
Hi, I saw you on Creative Live for Photo Week, and I am hooked! Subscribing to your RUclips Channel, and Facebook.. Now I'm connected and ready to learn all you have to teach!!! :)
Jeff, I wanted to ask: which light/boom stand are you using for your softbox? Many thanks in advance!
just saw this video...love only using a single light.
mind you, i think its time to upgrade to a larger softbox and strobe vs speedlight.
Awesome video
Thank you for sharing. I've been inspired.
Hi Jeff,
As you mention in your video: you used "1 stop diffusion panel inside" and "1 stop diffusion panel outside"( what did you mean?) and how ?please advise.
Thank you !
thank you so much for responding and sharing. I am really appreciate it!
What are my options to mount this umbrella with speedlights?
Hi Jeff thank you for your in dept demonstration about the benefits of a Parabolic Softbox. I can see that you are using a westcott para yourself. If i compare its size with godox, will it be equivalent to p90L or p120L ? Sizewise?
if you could answer my question, it will be really helpful for me.
thank you
When you are using the Zeppelin or 5 foot Octa, are you using it with a baby boom or a junior boom?
I love your videos. Very precise, not full of chat and really useful.
Could you name in the description the gear you used in that light setting and the ones you mention? Thank you, Jeff!
When you use the para with the diffusers, does it give a light significantly different from a sofbox of the same size? What is the difference?
Greg Veit Control and contrast.
Hello, I am in love with yours work! Please, how big is soft box, 90cm?? Thank you!
I know this video is from a few years back, but did you need the mounting bracket with the zeppelin 59'?
Thank you! Nice demo.
what are the advantages from using a round soft box from using a square/rectangle soft box?
+lauza247 The parabolic shape is usually more efficient and most prefer a round catchlight, to a square catchlight.
good video it is real helpful. i am a novice photographer who shoots when he can. i have two canon flashes and two neewer lights can i do the samething with them.
nimrod pascal What modifiers are you considering? :)
Right now just have two shoot through umbrellas. I was thinking about either a parabolic umbrella or softbox.
What do you think about a beauty dish for flashguns
Would a 400 watt light be enough for the size in a studio environment??
Beautiful work. xo thank you!
Just WOW 🤩
awesome results...
very informative video. thanks for sharing sir
Vince Ungasis Thank you! :)
Would this work with a smaller parabolic? I only have access to a 36 inch one :/
What brand is the c stand that you used in this video?
Very inspiring thank you so much
awesome video! Are you pointing your light meter at your light when metering or towards the direction of the camera? thanks!
Technically, if I had used a light meter it would be toward the light.
What light stand are you using ?
Sheesh! On of the best tutorials on RUclips. Sweet, short, and fully informative. However, I do have to ask, how much of that beautiful result is credited to the Zeppelin?? Would I be able to even come close to that level of high-quality shot with my $100 Parabolic?
G. Jax Thanks so much! Which modifier were you looking at? :)

I have a big umbrella like that, but I want to use with a speedlihght. Do you think Works good?
Arthur Lima easiest way to tell.... go try. ;)
I dont have one yet rsrs, because of that I was asking about, to know what to buy
where does the background come from
Great video and I love the light. In your video you mention a large octabox as a substitute if you can't get the Westcott. Is an octabox of about 39 inch large enough in your opinion?
Hi Jeff, would an umbrella placed similarly give a similar effect?
Many thanks for sharing. Nice concepts and tricks using one light.
Can i get the same result with 26 x 26" Softbox as i don't have Parabolic?
Sheshadri DR The closer your softbox is the SOFTER it'll be. You'd have to get REALLY close! :)
Thanks for watching. :)
What light stand are u using
do you feather it at all?
Really great shadows!
Great vid ! I have 42cm beauty dish and one 300 W lamp. I tried to shot some portraits with one light but it doesnt looks good :/ I have no idea what do I do wrong, Can you tell me something about working with one small beautydish.
Thanks for reply
why we need Parabolic Softbox to shoot?what different result with octa box or other?
what lens do you use for this?
Thanks for the video sir, going to try this next time I shoot.
Hi great video - the end results are stunning! Thanks for sharing your knowledge - are you able to advise what light you are using with the soft box? many thanks Eddie (UK)
eddieq1905 Thank you kindly! The Softbox I use is typically the Profoto 3x4 or 6x4. :)
I am new to photography. I wanted to know the softbox. does it have multiple lights in it? or just the flash. also what flash have you used?
very nice work!
+Paolo Andrade Thank you! :)
what size parabolic softboxe are you use on that video? 😋
Is either a 47 or 59 inch model..but re see the clip..I feel he mentions so..
Thank you so much for this Jeff.
One question about the 3rd and last setup (light from almost behind): With the head so close to the light, and the body much further away, it seems like, you would get several stops of falloff between head and belly: Did you fix this in post?
Markus Marschall I did not fix it in post. :) The resulting image required very little retouching.
0:53 what softbox he used
Great lesson Jeff.
Would i get the same effect using constant light?
+Damian Janicki Great Question! Technically Yes.... IF you have the same quality of light. What are you working with?
+Jeff Rojas (SAJORFFEJ)
Hi Jeff,
I got cheap rectangular softbox

Addison Avery Thank you kindly! It's a Seamlessphoto.com Background. :)
Have a link to the other 9 episodes? "Jeff Rojas kiss photo" doesn't turn up the other videos.
I love your work, specifically this one. Thank you for sharing. Do you have a recommendation for a deep parabol that makes the softest light from all the ones you know?
what is your camera settings
Is it possible to create same photos with a speedlite and softbox? BTW outstanding images. Very Talented!

Tiki your beautiful
I’d love to see the sooc
Awesome again!
amazing tutorial
Jeff, do you ever get close to full power on you D2? I have the D1 500 and wondering if it could work. Or if I have to fork over the cash for the D2 1000.
What software do you use for the lighting diagram?
