This!! So I was out in my Soulo BL at the weekend and I couldn’t figure out why the footprint was wet at the exact same spot on Sunday morning. I’ll order some seam sealer, thanks for this.
Good morning, I'm sorry to hear that, they are quite the investment. However seam sealer did not cut it for me, even with being in contact to Hillberg and layering Tenacious Tape in the vent water still leaked it. So I have sent it back due to this continued problem. Hope yours is a minor fix with some sealant. Rowan.
Incredibly irritating I agree. I’ve had numerous brands of tents that vent from the top including Hilleberg Jannu,Allak and samaya and all have eventually leaked through the roof zippers. I class these tents as more for snow / dry cold conditions. The trade off is mostly the structural strength in high wind
Yes, I would agree they are more suited for snow/dry and cold weather, especially the single skins like Samaya, however Hilleberg in particular advertise saying they are all season and harsh conditions. It is a shame they can't tweak it to be bettter in rain. But are really well made. Rowan.
Looks like driving rain coming through the vent. Soulo is a winter, snow/ice tent and as far as i can moderate temp and rain may be an inappropriate use of the this design. I own one and it is fantastic in its intended application of harsh winter conditions. I would have used, and have used my Niak in the conditions you experienced. No tent is a universal solution to weather.
Hi, I would certainly say the soulo is more snow/dry suited, however hilleberg advertise this as an all season tent and never once mention it cannot handle wind and rain together. Plus I would imagine you have seen other videos where the user has zero issues with wind and rain, and are in worse conditions than shown in the video. I also had the tail of the tent into the wind so the rain is not directly hitting the vent. For a a near £1000 tent along with the reputation of the product and brand (plus how Hilleberg advertise it) I feel it should be able to cope easily with wind and rain under 30mph. Thanks. Rowan.
Good afternoon, I would imagine a combination of bad luck plus quality control, however good their products are it is possible they make the occasional defect on individual products, this was something I suggested to Hilleberg when I spoke to them, but they dismissed the idea. I have seen several other videos on various models with similar issues. Am in the process of swapping the Soulo for a different model. Hope yours keeps serving you well. Rowan.
I recently got the Nortent Vern 1 as well, which I hope to replace my Soulo. Mentioned in the description that I seam sealed, and you can see it in the video. I think that particular product had a fault.
@@RowanWildCamps its was late when I looked at your video and did not notice what you had mentioned in the description about you had sealed the seams my fault... Hope you get that Soulo replaced as it cost so much and not only that it's faulty which as we know it happens to the best of equipment with any manufactures.
@@darkshaman7087 That's ok, easy to do. Thank you, I should be receiving a Jannu with 10mm poles and footprint as a replacement. Exactly I don't feel it is the product, but the individual one I had, that had an issue.
@@RowanWildCamps that sounds like a good deal, its a pity you had a bad experience with the Soulo because of a faulty zip, if something goes on the machine or the alignments etc that make the items products will end up with a defect as thats what happens. Im from Wales and cant wait to get out again soon in the tent but busy at the moment also a few mile from me is the Brecon Beacons and can see the Beacons from the top of the mountain where I live, there was snow up there the other day as so hightup.
@@darkshaman7087 That is what I thought as well. No, I bet, the Breacon Beacons are spectacular, I'm looking to try and get to Snowdonia soon. Must be a nice view there.
I'm not sure this is about quiality control but rather a problem with the design (for these particular conditions) but I'm not sure. I hope you find a tent better suited for you!
Hello, I can see how it would be more suited to snow/dry cold, but the combination of Hillebergs and the Soulos repuation, the price and how you see many other people useing it in worse wind and rain makes me think something was wrong with that individual product. Thank you, got some things on the way that should be good. Rowan.
This is the Black label, so in my experience yes it does. Cannot comment on the Red label. I think I was just unlucky with that individual, far too popular and highly recommended for them all to be leaking.
Horrible to see a tent of that quality leaking m8. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the tent. What I think has happened is you have driving wind and rain hammering the door end. Going over and down the top hatch That’s why water is getting in. if the wind was hitting any other part of ur tent. I’m 100 percent certain you’d have no leaks.
Good evening, Yes it wasn't pleasant to experience it either. I can appreciate on video it may look as those points you describe are taking place, however as I wrote in the description I always pitched tail into the wind, and I have seen alot of other videos/comments about the same thing. Even if it were the case that sombody does pitch a Soulo BL door into the wind, for a near £1000 tent plus its reputation and Hillebergs says in the handbook regarding the Soulo it can "handle high winds", "encounter tough pitching conditions", "mountaineers doing alpine climbs in big mountains" and "anyone travelling in remote places where harsh weather is common". I think for it to leak in 20-30mph winds and rain regardless of the direction is wrong. But that is not my case, as I always had it tail into the wind in mild conditions for its capabilty. But it is always interesting to hear somebody elses point, so thank you. Rowan.
That's not a leak though is it? It's water penetrating through the zip, the zips are not waterproof, if they get wet then water may get through. Also the breathable fabric panel isn't waterproof either and if it gets wet then water may penetrate through it. Driving rain at a certain direction will saturate the zip and breathable panel. A few drips into the vestibule is not the end of the world.
Good morning, in the description I do mention how I applied sealant (and later tenacious tape to the vent material) to the zips stitching, and you can see it in the video. Before sending it back I emailed Hilleberg about it (this was after my first night in it), I then took it out another 4 times, all but 1 night I encounterd rain, and it always leakd after about 10 minutes of rain. Thanks.

@@DemiGod.. Hi there, it is a shame that any Hilleberg tent needs seam sealing as they claim it is not needed. I have heard that the Akto leaks, where does it leak on the Anjan 2 out of interest? Yes, I did, the videos here are all sub 30mph winds and leaked after about 10 mins after pitching. As well as seam sealing both sides, I also layered Tenacious Tape over the fabric and overlapped onto the sealant on the zips. It would certainly appear they have their issues, unfortunately this is not talked about enough and after my exchanges with Hilleberg I got the impression they don't believe it is an issue, and there is nothing they can do. Hilleberg kept telling me it is condensation and when the weather is "severe" some water will come in, funny how they do not write that in the description of their products. So, the Soulo has gone back to them, in exchange for a Jannu which will hopefully be here by June. Thanks.
I've sent Hilleberg questions and follow up videos regarding these same issues and asking if they had resolved this known design flaw. Zero response even after following up with them again. Went with a Nortent New Vern 1 instead, and yes Nortent answered all my questions. It's a tent that Hilleberg could have made but didn't. When a potential customer asks questions before handing over a lot of money, a companies transparency would go along way.
@@BelfastBodger Good morning, yes, I know how you feel. I never felt that the understood, or even wanted to understand what I was saying, they would just drown me in waffle as though I had never pitched a tent before. Even with the videos sent to them and repeated emails and phone calls, they still believed it was condensation, and some water ingress is normal, hence why they make the inner water resistant. Eventually they mentioned they may look into a redesign. In the meantime, Hilleberg are hopefully replacing my Soulo for a Jannu with 10mm poles and footprint.
