    What a great birthday gift! Queen in the spotlight. Thank you! 🙏🤗 By the way, two more that are totally genre bending....Seaside Rendezvous and The Millionaire Waltz. Not sure if you know them already, but worth a listen if not!

    Freddie said in an interview relating to making the solo projects of the band members but referring stucking together at the same time "Why to kill the goose that laid the golden egg?". I am sure, that their intelligence helped them to find the right way out of any troubles.

    Right on the money for the chameleon reference....not to metnion the unique retro stretch of Killer Queen, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, Sea Side Rendevouz or the odd partner Don't Try Suicide and Keep Passing the Open Window. As a bass player yourself, be sure to catch John bursting out at the 7.14 minute on Liar (Live at the Rainbow). When you ask a Queen fan for a favorite song they will often cite that it depends on their mood .

    My
    fave band and Roger is my fave drummer and singer. You’ve really scratched the surface of the different styles these geniuses play .
    By the way , Roger has his own solo catalogue as does Brian May . Not too bad I reckon .

    • @JelaniStokes

      Oh another one was the Four Tops from Motown. They kept the same lineup from the early 60's all the way till 1997 when one of the members tragically passed away. Its a rarity to see groups stay together, but when they do, It's truly amazing.

    Freddie said himself it's the four of them together that creates the 'Queen sound'
    but I'm not sure I would agree with your comment that it became a 'Queen composition'
    from comments they have made and people analysing the songs I think most would agree that as far as compositions go Freddie was more talented but you're comment implies they all worked on his songs
    I think it would have sounded fairer at least had you said the songs they brought forward became Queen compositions though I wouldn't really agree completely
    yes Freddie taking his song to other musicians may not have the same success as with Queen, they were all very good musicians in the same way the others wouldn't have the same success with their songs with another singer
    Brian said about Freddie, you would present an idea and he would give you ten times more back
    having success with their albums,I think a big reason Queen albums do better wasn't just the musicians together but the fact the albums had more diversity, three of them had solo albums and each of them had much the same tone through the album
    with Queen the album worked but there was a lot of diversity

    • @JelaniStokes
      @JelaniStokes  2 года назад

      Well, my reasoning for saying that they became Queen compositions is that whenever you go into the studio to record music, the individuals playing will always bring their own creativity to the song during the course of playing (Unless they are tightly controlled by the producer and told what to play). From my own experience, other musicians would bring my songs to another level because they would add something to the song I would have never thought of, and to my ears, it would just make it that much better. So I believe Freddie knew this as well and he know that Brain, John, and Roger were going to add that "something extra" to make it special.

      @@JelaniStokes
      Possibly
      Brian said when you showed an idea to Freddie he would give you ten times back.
      How they play certainly, same with freddie vocals, different singer or musicians wont sound the same.
      But they did seem a bit ridgid in having it performed as composed.
      They did have an overall producer but tended to produce their individual songs though officially it just says Queen.
      Though Freddie did like to tinker! He changed rogers song when he went on holiday!
      Roger and john often played most of the instruments on their tracks.
      Though theyve all said Freddie helped him but it was as much supporting him as the other two didn't like his style of music.
      I dont think Freddie gave that much leave way either
      Their composition are quite different.
      Brian said Freddie wrote a lot of good stuff for guitar he wouldn't have thought of as it forces him to play differently.
      Even on the solos are often different as how Freddie composes is different

    • @JelaniStokes
      @JelaniStokes  2 года назад +1

      @@bluebell3720 oh absolutely! Freddie was the driving force creatively! He would bring his completed composition to the band and (through their amazing chemistry) together they would make it into a Queen classic.

      Brian wanted to put more guitar on Freddies DSMN now he said no as he wanted it piano lead.
      Bruan ignored him and still wrote guitar for it but Freddie still said no.
      I think he's still salty over it!
      Freddie got them to the studio quickly to record CLTCL before Brian tried to get there and track changing things!
      Bo Rap yes brian wrote his solos but everyone has made it clear its performed as Freddie composed it
